I think Luz's Palisman should've been a Phoenix. It fits the bird theming and could symbolize her rebirth into her new life with new friends that started after she went to the Isles. It also could represent the first and last glyphs she learned, light and fire. You could even argue it matches her personality.

She's not really being reborn though. She's the same person she's been since Day 01. The point is not to destroy what she is to make room for something new, it's that the original person was fine just as she was and only needed to be understood so she could grow into her best self. Symbolically the phoenix doesn't match her story _or_ personality. That's why Stringbean the snakeshifter is perfect: it symbolizes the potential to be anything.

@@LittleHobbit13 I like your interpretation as it is very different from mine. I think we are viewing the symbolism of rebirth and shapeshifting very differently. I see rebirth as fitting as she is certainly not the same person as she was day 1, she is no longer the naive girl who thinks the fantasy world is for her own grand adventure. She has matured and developed into a different but better person, a rebirth, not destruction. The rebirth is her new understanding of herself. I also saw shapeshifting from the lens of hiding one's true identity, however your interpretation of shapeshifting as infinite potential makes me like it a lot more. While I do think a phoenix could match her story and personality, I think I understand why Stringbean is more fitting now. At the very least, she's more associated with snakes(though she has a lot of animal connections)

@@Eterco I think the snake actually addresses some of what you're talking about with the phoenix. A snake sheds its skin as it grows. It revitalizes itself in a similar manner, but without the phoenix element of something needing to die before it can be reborn. Snakes also have associations in some mythologies to wisdom. Tie this in with Luz to be symbolic of her growing and becoming wiser.

Honestly now that the show is over (and far too soon, thanks for nothing Disney) I feel like the best explanation for Belos' long life and the weird pulsating tattoos of the glyphs on his arm are that he possibly tried to inject himself with titan blood. Explains the glowing blue eyes when he saw the half-empty portal key, explains why he and Luz (spoilers for 3:3) both had the floating/glowing glyph motif when empowered by the titan. We know his green goopy cursed form is caused by the need to consume palismen souls, and we don't know what/where that came from either, but there's clearly something more there, and I don't believe the palismen eating "curse" and titans are affiliated in any way. I honestly want an ep (not a series) which dives into the Whittebanes' past lives and how Phillip became what he is at the time of the show. He's clearly using the palismen to extend his lifespan, but what the hell is up with the glyphs on his arm? Possibly a simpler explanation could be that he tried to enhance his physical being with a glyph combo as well, but idk.
