Love the colours of your garden. Exactly the choice in my garden. Keeping the slugs away is a challenge but I try because I love my garden and the money spent is not for slugs ‘ eat as much as you like’ type of menu. Well done and enjoy it. Great videos.

You’re right about being hard to get color into an evergreen tropical garden but I realize what little color you use goes a long way. For me I get it with caladiums with bright colors, wax red & pink begonias and bromeliads. I like the plants you featured a entrance during first couple of minutes of video

Yeah I think if you’re creative you can always find gaps to add colour. Even climbers and epiphytes on green trees can brighten up a space. I’m definitely going to add more colour this week. Cheers.

I grow alot of canna from seed, pick the nicest ones then pass the rest to friends particular the Smokey flame love that colour in the garden. Do fancy trying to hybridise them now watching this 🤣

Hi. I’ve not grown Cannas from seed for a few years. I used to mess about hybridising quite a bit a few years ago but stopped due to lack of space. I now got somewhere to grow them now so I’m going to try again.

The mystery Canna is |Thai Smokey Flame I think. I grow it from seed too but its a bugger to germinate.

Hi. I’ve had a look on Google and I think you are correct about the name Canna Thai Smokey Flame. I’ve found it fine from seed in the past and I have had some variation from the seeds. Really appreciate the comment. Thank you.

The most colorful and striking Cannas I own and I think you’d love are the Cleopatra, and they multiply pretty well.

Hi. I have grown lots and lots of Canna Cleopatra and I agree it’s a great Canna. The reason I don’t use it much now is because it has lots of green in the leaf and I have lots of green so I’m trying to extract as much colour out of my Cannas as I can. Cheers.

@@tikitropicals65 I must have gotten a good set of tubers when I bought mine. The leaves are very variegated so all my flowers are mostly the two-toned yellow and red. Also in a brighter green with yellow striping in the leaves are the Bengal with bright orange blooms, and my Musifolia are stunning burgundy with green.

what plant do you grow in pots
@tikitropicals65
@tikitropicals65 5 ай бұрын
Hi. I grow lots of plants in pots as shown In the video. I often use pots for more tender plants like Begonias as it’s easy to bring them in for winter. I also like to use pots for plants that like lots of drainage like Agaves. Cheers.

Great video and keep going because you just might of got some Canna virus 🦠 free hybridisations there.🫡👍
@tikitropicals65
@tikitropicals65 5 ай бұрын
Thank you. It’s thought that Canna virus doesn’t generally transmit through to seed grown Cannas so it is a good way to ensure new clean plants. Cheers.

@@tikitropicals65 right I didn’t think of it like that but would be interesting topic to trial an keep viewers coming back for content on your channel seeing as you do have some of your own hybrids and see if any of your strains do tend to resist the virus. Just a thought obviously I like your content anyway as do others and a lot of gardeners an even KZbinrs have had to hesitantly remove them due to Canna virus 🦠.
@tikitropicals65
@tikitropicals65 5 ай бұрын
So just to clarify that if a virused canna produces seed it’s thought to be unlikely that the virus passes through to the seedlings. As the plant grows it can get the virus if transmitted by pests like aphids. Growing from seed doesn’t make the Canna immune to getting it at a later date. I don’t have any cannas showing signs of virus so it would be hard to do a test unless you had a virused species canna that produced seed then grew the seedlings on. I would assuming large Canna nurseries and universities have tested in the past. Cheers.
