@@NativeEnglishHacksin pretend in pre is always the eh sound but said more quickly and relax, is it right ?
@NativeEnglishHacks Жыл бұрын
No. I suppose maybe you could use the EH sound ("bed"), but it's the EE sound ("eat"), which is almost always reduced to either IH ("it") or UH (schwa, like "of"). I don't recommend using the EH sound

Hey, I am an English Teacher. I am struggling to teach children reading.. they are unable to read... Not even easy words.. but because of these exceptions I am unable to tell them how to read.... As I thought ea spelling would lead to ee sound... But there are ALOT OF EXCEPTIONS.... can you make one video on it... On how to match spelling and pronunciation.... It will be very helpful for all Learners... And what shall I do?

As noted in the transcription guide, the earlier lessons that use the method have some details that weren't thought of yet or finalized. As far as I can think, the reality is that any time you have an EH before an R, it will be R-colored and there are no other options. Even trying to keep them separate results in a difference so small it doesn't matter. That's a big part of why in the later version of the transcription method I underline *both* the R-colored vowel (to show they're together) AND the vowel after because the R naturally just links and flows into that next vowel and it acts more like a bridge attached to both syllables.

Yaaasss! Love the hat 😁 Btw, I had no idea the eig pronunciation was common in California. Good to know! Oh, and now it makes sense why it's "Ash Ketchum" 😳

Yep! 😂 I always thought that name was so corny lol.

So clean is with /ee/ but cleanse is with /eh/, it's so logical! 😢 Does Cleanse change the sound because of the 'silence e' at the end?
@NativeEnglishHacks3 жыл бұрын
Probably. But that's not the important thing. It doesn't matter why it's pronounced that way, only that you perceive it correctly and remember it through actual practice, not memorization of rules. Always emphasize skills rather than memorization of knowledge and sound rather than spelling, especially in a language with a million and one exceptions like English ☺

¡Hola Profe! ¿Hay alguna diferencia entre el sonido corto de la E del inglés con la E del español?
@NativeEnglishHacks2 жыл бұрын
Yes. The Spanish E is the start of the English diphthong EI ("pay"), which is different than our normal E ("bed").

I feel like when I am trying to touch the sides of the upper (or possibly both upper and lower teeth) teeth with the backside of the tongue, it sounds pretty correct. Any thoughts, please?

@@NativeEnglishHacks This sound is one of the most difficult ones for me to make correctly.. so please excuse me for having many questions about it. I just tried to lift the middle part of the tongue when making this sound without touching the front teeth with the tip of the tongue and with touching the side of the upper teeth) I think that produced a better sound. So, my tongue was not exactly flat like you mentions in the video...I have been practicing it today alone for 4 hours straight this sound drives me to the way lol Oh god somebody help me plz lolol words like "bed" and "wig" have been killing me slowly.... should I just give in? lol dang dang dang

I've discovered there's actually multiple ways that the tongue can be held for many of the sounds, including EH, but they'll all sound slightly different. This is one reason mouth posture can be useful because the sounds aren't just floating in the mouth anymore. In fact, I'm likely going to replace these lessons with updated mouth posture versions at some point. Not that the information in the original lessons is wrong, but I've found a much better way to approach it and can cover more details that I wasn't previously aware of

@@NativeEnglishHacks I really hope I can watch the video on the updated mouth posture versions soon. This has been driving me crazy lol Thank you for replying back to me.
@NativeEnglishHacks2 жыл бұрын
I'll give you a tip. The central tension of the posture is always there. If you can do a good center of gravity UH like I talk about in the phase 1 mouth posture lesson, any sound you do will hold a little bit of what that sound feels like in the middle of the tongue, though it can slightly shift around (but it never leaves the middle of the tongue). For EH, that means start in UH and transition forward into EH on the front of the tongue. The UH will essentially disappear, but if you completely lose the central tension (a tiny pressure in the middle of the tongue), you lose the posture and the EH might not sound right. Play with that and see what happens 🙂
