I'm looking for popular papers around the world, which I don't normally get to see. This video is also aimed at paper suppliers. If your paper is a good one and your supplier doesn't produce et-8550/8500 profiles, ask them to enquire about making profiles. All current profiles are listed in the main ET-8550 written review at www.northlight-images.co.uk/epson-et-8550-printer-review/ Please email me at Northlight Images to discuss this further: keith@northlight-images.co.uk

Thanks Keith! I just bought an 8550 based on your reviews and it just arrived! Time to get it out of the box and find all the blue tape. Your efforts are much appreciated.

Hello Keith, Nice initiative! I'm eager to learn how this develops. So far, I get solid results with Epson Premium Semi-Gloss and the profile that comes with the driver. I'd love to use Ilford Galerie Smooth Pearl (an old favorite of mine on the Stylus Pro 3800) as well, but there's no profile support from Ilford. I bought two papers (A4, to get acquainted) from Canson (Photo Lustre and Photo Satin), which they do supply a profile for. Their profiles aren't as good though, and the included instructions are so far off the mark that Canson doesn't instill much trust in me at the moment. Hope these notions can help to better things somehow... Cheers and keep up the good work, HZ

Thanks - the 8550 is by far and away the most popular printer I've ever created profiles for. It helps me build up my test stock too, since I cannot afford to just go out and buy papers for this.

great video, is there a one size fit all? I just started printing yesterday!! this is my 3rd question i asked you. I feel totally lost as how my journey in printing is going to go? i do not not want to send out my images to a lab anymore. Do you have a beginners guide using an epson ET 8550...
@KeithCooper15 күн бұрын
No - absolutely not... profiles are specific to a paper. Start with a basic Epson paper - semi-gloss for example. The setup even installs profiles for these basic papers. Start with my written review, linked video a test image [see the review] and use Epson EPL to print it

Can this be used for pvc and cd printing?

CD yes - if the right sort. ID cards - not supported

Hello, I bought this printer a week ago. I put in two glossy papers and on two of them I have traces of circles. I don't really know which drawer to put the paper in. I think that the pass-through feeder at the back is the best because it doesn't bend the paper and maybe the traces are smaller. I looked for matte papers but I couldn't find any. I will have to order something online. I am checking the list that was written on the printer testing page to see if I can get it somewhere. If you want I can buy some paper available in Europe and send it to you for testing. Now I don't know if the glossy paper is bad or my printer.

Check the paper types I tested in my written review www.northlight-images.co.uk/epson-et-8550-printer-review/ As for new papers - this was really aimed at paper makers and suppliers since they can best afford to send me full boxes of papers ;-) The postage for boxes of paper is not insignificant...
Indeed - not stuff I can remotely afford to buy just for testing - hence this video!

Is it possible to make a A1 print with using just A3 sheets? Thank you
@KeithCooper11 күн бұрын
Yes four of them ... If you don't mind the joins I believe it may be something the windows version of the driver does, but we have no win PCs at all, so I've never tried it.
@Its.mister.p11 күн бұрын
Brilliant. Thank you for getting back to me. I need to figure out how to do it. Thanks again brother

Have a look at the printer manual - I believe it covers this [for win]

Can, you make an ICC profile for a epson et- 8550 which is converted for sublimation?
@KeithCooper13 күн бұрын
In general yes, the practicalities of it [target production and measurement] on the final product mean that I'd only describe it as 'an interesting project'... No dye-sub stuff here though...

Hi, recently I got a pro 1000, but the ink usage is very high, I am not sure if it's normal. I set up the printer, powered on and off 3 times, printed 25 A4 8.5 x11 images in the past 10 days and it shows there is 1/4 ink left .
@KeithCooper15 күн бұрын
For a first set of inks that's not uncommon I'm afraid - see my original written review for the 1000 when it first cane out. See too my written review for the very similar 1100.

This has nothing to do with the topic of your video, but in the last few weeks I notice more and more video titles and audio tracks being automatically translated by KZbin and I just hate it. To be fair it automatically plays the original audio track, but it is kind of weird going through my subscriptions and reading everthing in german. Sometimes you know who created the video just from reading the title and the translation makes everything sound more or less the same. Some people online state that you simply should add more languages to your google account to make this stop, but it does not work for me. Sorry to bother you with this Keith. Great video as always!
@KeithCooper15 күн бұрын
Thanks - Unfortunately I've no idea at all what they are doing in this respect. Personally, I hardly ever watch anything on KZbin - never have - too many 'photography videos' just irritate me :-) It's why it took a real effort from someone at Canon UK a few years ago to get me to start making the videos to supplement my written reviews. They said they would be popular - they were right, I was wrong! :-)
@Photoss7315 күн бұрын
I can read this "Plus de profils icc et-8550/8500 gratuits. Documents requis pour les tests. Demandez à votre four" I thought Keyth writes frenche titles, just for me. No, it has been translated (why ?) Two days before it was "Canon PRO-1100 printer review. Detailed 17" pigment ink fine art printer review should you buy one ?" not translated.

@@Photoss73 Just for fun: tap the little gear icon in the video player and there is an option for different audio tracks. When I set it to german keith is talking with a strange robotic voice 😂

@@sebastianreiprich3747 In french it is strange too. 🙂 It speaks well but the voice is not 'good'. (I have seen one time a vidéo on YT that had a russian voice, but there was only one people for all the characters, it was curious. One voice for several peoples)

Thanks for that - but that's actually not so much use for the detailed testing I do. I need multiple A3+ and A4 sheets - at least a box of A3+. hence my directing this video at getting paper from suppliers ;-)
