Schwalbe's Clik Valve sounds like a nice idea. Especially since you don't need to buy everything new but can just upgrade existing valves and pumps for pretty cheap. Really hope it takes off and frees us from fiddly presta valves.

Just trying to find/try shoes (and saddles!) that fit/suit is so hit and miss. You either waste money on non suitable items or spend a fortune on 3D printed to match your feet/a$$. The latter is surely the way forward but needs to come down in price.

The most important customization for the shoe is the carbon sole, as the upper has a lot of adjustment. If you just trace your foot, already you'd have a very good representation of the width and length measurement for the sole. Even without custom manufacturing, shoe companies could make HUGE gains to improving cycling shoe fit, by simply allowing customers to choose shoes individually. Most people do have slightly different foot size, so it is valuable to be able to choose a wide right shoe in 43, and a medium width in 42.5, for example. Because they are made serially, there's a huge cost advantage, over single unit manufacturing. If you don't like the fit, just send it back and pay a shipping fee (at dealer or through post). With Boa closures, custom insoles and being able to choose two different shoe sizes, a lot of improvement can be made, without this expensive scanning and 3D printing approach. Most dealers already have several sizes and widths in stock, so they could me making a good sale easily, just by allowing the customer to try two different sizes and then have their pair matched for them.

Here's a question to manufacturers/bike engineers that have intrigued me for quite some time (and eurobike might be a good place to raise that question?): What bike or bicycle product would they build if they wouldn't have to worry about costs (and perhaps regulations). Rationale: When manufacturers develop a product, they balance the costs for development/production/marketing etc. against the estimated revenue and then make a decision. Consequently, we don't get to see products that enrich and enhance our bike riding experience? Do we miss something out?
@feedbackzaloop
@feedbackzaloop 12 күн бұрын
No, you're not missing out much if anything at all. There are custom and small batch boutique bikes that answer any request. Just gotta google harder. But you are correct, mass produced bikes are designed as most balanced and optimized for sum of all properties. And it goes beyond production and marketing, ensuring the initial purchase, but serviceability and durability (to own extend, of course), ensuring customer satisfaction and brand loyalty, resulting in further purchases. Daayumn it sounds like some marketing pitch😑

There were all kinds of crazy bikes (made by Mr. Colnago himself) prior to the time when UCI allowed it. The UCI rule stipulating that only commercially -available products may be used, aims to promote the bike industry's products, maintain equal opportunities for winning among riders and ensure safety. I think it is a good one, and would even like to see a retro league of bike racing where only metal framed bikes are permitted. It could be a crit or tour that precedes the main race even by a day, or even just a few hours, to keep the crowd entertained.

Wheels tend to be the first big upgrade people look at, and it’s easy to see why. They change the look of the bike so substantially. You get a lot of bling for your buck. But shoes should positively take their place. I bet a pretty high percentage of riders have no idea how a good pair of shoes could unlock longer rides and better fitness.

@@doublejumpvideogames.... if somebody’s shoes aren’t holding them back, sure. My contention is that more people are held back by their shoes than they realize. If they’re not, then you could be right. But if somebody literally can’t ride more than 30mi because their shoes cause issues they may not even be aware of? No wheel can solve that.

Great episode and great to hear 3T and other companies are pulling out of Communist China = better bikes, better quality and safety, and less support for human rights violators and a totalitarian society that ignores and/or covers up environmental issues👍 BTW e-bikes do deserve their own channel; they're distinctly different machines

"1 mm precise" LOL - really, who actually believes a rider's foot stays within 1 mm of their pre-ride dimensions over a ride. While such precise construction is practical it's hardly significant wrt fit requirements. There are many advantages to fabricating a cycle shoe with 3D printing. This level of precision isn't one of them!
