@@rm9308 The instument's peak of popularity has long passed, so newer innovations to its design haven't had much incentive to foster, unfortunately.
@rm93084 жыл бұрын
@@Persun_McPersonson yeah, but if you're a hurdy gurdy enthusiast buying from a one-off luthier it seems like they could be even more innovative. I wouldn't consider spring-action on the keys enough of a change to have to call it a different instrument even, just a better hurdy gurdy.
@Persun_McPersonson4 жыл бұрын
@@rm9308 It doesn't seem to be something considered enough of an issue by those who become fanatics of it. If it was more popular, this change would definitely happen due to more people with varying wants/needs playing it, and the demand for such a feature would go up as a result.

True. I'm guessing this guy and most enthusiasts play folk music all day, every day. But here's a modern player who could use more speed and less clackety action on the keys: kzbin.info/www/bejne/e5SaY2ykosadrcU

Ugh, when he talks about not touching the wheel, it brings me back to an orchestra concert in highschool. I played the upright bass and this concert included a piece with a bass solo, which is pretty damn rare in orchestra and I was pretty hyped up. One of my friends who was also in orchestra rubbed a wax candle on my bow. I rosined the crap out of it, but I could tell my tone wasn't quite 100%

Hey, violinist here. I have always loved the sound of the Hurdy Gurdy. It is definitely God's instrument and in the hands your new friend, it's the voice of the angels! Moreover, I have never seen a Hurdy Gurdy that is so gorgeous and with such attention to detail! ~ Questions: How often do you have to replace the strings? And the cost of each? What type of strings do you use? I heard what your friend (Jim Kendros. I Googled his name and there are lots of videos with him in them to watch!) said about them in your other video, but I'm wondering what you would ask for if you walked into a music store. My dad owned a music store for 35 years, and I never heard of him selling "Hurdy Gurdy strings." He would have mentioned that, and even shown me some(!) ~ I just found your channel and am enjoying your videos. Yes, I've SUBSCRIBED to both of your channels! I've been out of the behind-the-scenes music world for some time now, and I miss jamming with my friends. Watching your videos takes me back and has lifted my spirits in abundance. Thank you for that! ~ And thanks for mentioning Altar Music.com. I'm sure they'll have strings(?!) and I can't wait to see George Levert's unique Hurdy Gurdys! ~
