I'm not dead! I just haven't had internet at home for over a month. It's not the first time a video is delayed but it's a bit different this time. Parents told me to move out, so I was busy searching for something, then moving, etc. On top of that, I went back and forth many times on different attempts to properly test NVIDIA ultra-low latency, but there was always a major problem that could invalidate the real-world relevance of the measured data. That's why at some point, I decided to cut it. I'm uploading this from my uni wifi so some things (subtitles, spreadsheet) will be updated at a later date.

I'd say, they didn't change anything in the PCB, it probably has only some firmware upgrades to support the extra buttons and the layout changes. But I don't own one, so maybe I'm wrong, however it's Microsoft, which makes me think that the only question they had when they released the Elite: "how to make more money without any extra effort?" On the other hand, MAYBE they improved something since hardware-wise they are one of the bests in the industry. For example they have very high quality mice and keyboards. I think, back in the days, Microsoft was the only one who thought about keyboard ergonomics, when the MS Natural Keyboard has been released. It looked weird, but it was different made for comfortable use, which was especially important for long hours of office work. I think there is a brand new variant, with dedicated MS Office and emoji keys. They also have great mice for creatives too. With this is mind, there might be the case that something got improved, but comfort and usability is different than tweaking some numbers.

Have you gotten a hold of DS4 wireless adapters for PC? I've heard they're supposed to provide lower latency and own 4 myself. I've also noticed inconsistent lag issues with more than 2 DS4s in wireless mode with either Bluetooth or the wireless adapter. On the other hand, both Xbox 1 and 360 wireless controllers never experienced this issue using the official adapters.
@RocketScience5 жыл бұрын
No, I haven't personally invested in the official Sony dongles but since Sony uses the regular Bluetooth technology the only way that the adapters could be better is if all other manufacturers are incapable of creating good ones. It's not true that the Xbox controllers with the official adapters didn't experience any more inconsistencies wireless. The standard deviation over wired is just so high that the number works out to be the same but over wired there is never a very high outlier while on wireless there were a few 10ms+ (higher than average) results. I've shown more details of this in ep17. The only device that didn't show any of signs of wireless inconsistencies was the Logitech G305, at least none that I can identify as such as the device is wireless only.
@Saturn28885 жыл бұрын
@@RocketScience Thanks for your detailed response! I guess what I mean about Xbox is that the deviations aren't noticeable, but with PS4 on Bluetooth, they are. If you connect a DS4 to Windows PC, install DS4windows and run it, it measures a DS4, that is connected via a USB cable, at 3.55ms approx - and it's very sensitive, it feels very responsive and certainly doesn't feel like 10ms.
@RocketScience3 жыл бұрын
1) DS4Windows cannot and does not measure the input lag. It displays the time since last poll (and misleadingly labels it "input delay"). That is part of the input lag, but it does not account for any lag that happens inside the controllers microchip. 2) "and certainly doesn't feel like 10ms" How do you know what 10 ms feels like? Do you have a controller that you know has 10 ms so you can compare it to that? Even then, humans aren't the best at judging these kinds of things because something like a higher sensitivity will also make it feel more responsive without changing the input lag. 10 ms will also likely feel responsive because 10 ms is merely 1/100th of a second. It is not a bad result at all. For esports, players are looking for every ms advantage they can get, but for a responsive feeling even a 20 ms controller could work if the rest of the system is optimized. After all, the controller is not the only source of input lag in a given system. 3) My results are replicated on inputlag.science/controller/results and hci.ur.de/publications/on_the_latency_of_usb-connected_input_devices_2019
@DarkSansTV4 жыл бұрын
The problem with steam taking over actions is that there is an unusually gigantic amount of delay added on and the calculation rate of steam is too slow to use macros on or have a turbo with, (Trust me, I have a turbo controller) what you need to do is find a controller layout that only maps the buttons and then go into RL and map the buttons yourself, the one I use is just called "square left joystick" and it's great for preventing the controller mapper from appearing when I wanna remap my controls. Also, back to the delay, I can't really play with steams control because the lowered polling rate makes it hard to perform certain actions, an example would be half flipping, or using a speed flip to get back to net or turning around after a failed play.

Do you have data for wireless input drops on different controllers? Is it worth it to play wired (if it is still quite comfortable) to prevent input drops? Are they very rare or more often? Why Xbox One Controller standard deviation (average/mean consistency?) in previous test was seperate for wired and wireless/Bluetooth (BT) but in this new video it is together? Is it still true that Xbox One Controller wireless/BT has slightly better average consistency but the worst case wireless deviations are much worse than wired? And average input lag for wired and wireless/BT Xbox One Controller is the same or similar? (I don't understand difference between average input lag and average consistency so I could wrote some mistakes. :)) What version of Microsoft Wireless Adapter (it is not Bluetooth but something similar to Wi-fi if I'm not mistaken) did you use - old and bigger or newer and smaller?
@RocketScience5 жыл бұрын
1) Input drops just means that they arrive later, not that they don't get recognized at all. It's physically nearly impossible to press a button for such a short amount that the entire input is dropped. all the raw data is in the spreadsheet in the video description. Standard deviation is listed everywhere and statistical analysis can be done on the raw data 2) I just put them together because I deemed the difference not really relevant. The spreadsheet is always more thorough and the Xbox one data hasn't changed 3) not sure, whatever I said in the previous video hasn't changed. 4) the big one but it came with the newest version of the controller.

Massive work as always, thanks. I have some questions, I hope you can answer. 1) I'm using a DS4 v2 mostly on bluetooth, with DS4Windows and your steam configuration settings with left-stick squared. If I want to move all the configuration on DS4Windows, including dead-zones, shapes, etc, do I have to set the steam configuration on that "Legacy" one (which I assume it's there only to allow the non-native configuration)? Can you tell me how to setup DS4Windows perfectly as your steam configuration settings? 2) When the battery dies and I plug the cable in, I feel something is really different. It's not just a bigger input lag, but also something different with dead-zones and pressure sentivity. I found my-self double jumping a lot instead of dodging, or even missing the second jump. How's that? It loads a different steam configuration when I plug the cable? That's why I would want to move all the configuration on DS4Windows and keep the steam config dry. 3) In steam configuration there are dead-zones settings. How do these interact with the in-game ones? Does the game just load the in-game ones or not? Thanks a lot.
@RocketScience5 жыл бұрын
DS4Windows does not have deadzone shapes so it's not possible to make identical. But setting the sensitivity to 1.4 will put you at no disadvantage compared to square. Might still take some time to adjust. 2) steam config with wireless ds4 had +3ms of lag which I believe is because it somehow can't keep up with the high update rate. That could have further implications on the feel of gameplay beyond a few ms. 3) Dead zones in steam (legacy) just run on top of RLs dead zone. They're both active but steams work a little different. I believe I talked about that in ep7

I'm wondering why you didn't test the DS3 on bluetooth, since you had a dongle to test other controllers.

I keep getting red triangle every 2 games in rocket league. I never had it but it’s happened recently. Every 2 games i get red triangle 5 times so for around 30 secs I’m immobile and unable to play and I’m losing my rank and patience. How do I fix this? It’s so annoying and my ping is fine

So I have a question that is kinda related to this, but not at the same time. I hope anyone can explain what may be causing it. So im using a ds4 v1 with bluetooth and with ds4windows on my pc. It has always worked great for rocket league with minimal input delay, but in the last few months it got this really weird input lag spikes some days. the input lag randomly spikes up to 10-30 ms for a few seconds and also stays consistent at 5-6ms which also is quite high according to ds4windows(it normally stays between 1-2ms). What is also weird is that it happens inconsistently, so some days I can play just fine, and some days it happens very often the whole day, and i cant seem to fix it, and the next day it might be gone again. the last week it has been happening more often tho. I just think the controller is getting old and worn out. If somebody knows what it can be please let me know.

Half way dead, can you please test input lag of AMD's Radeon Anti-Lag? Also if you could test FreeSync that would be fantastic! All you need is an AMD gpu, which hopefully you have one :)

Derek Sevcik Battle(none)sense already tested it. Check out his channel.

It is a shame that companies are not transparent with their product features such as latency. I really hope that you are able to continue the researching. Maybe an authority such as EU will demand precise results in the future.

Many of these controllers were not made to be used on a PC, and it would vary from PC to PC ...

I've covered multitudes of software in ep. 17. For the result you see in this test there was no software used.

You said that your old cpu had a lot more inconsistency than your new cpu. Which one did you have before and now? :)

i5 6600k to ryzen 3700x. Has a lot more headroom. I can still get stable 240 FPS with a youtube video or stream on my second monitor.

@@RocketScience THanks for the reply! I've been on a ryzen 2600x and i've been considering upgrading to 3700x. I regularly find my rocket league performance to be sluggish and a bit unreliable, and i've been dealing with it for a year now on a 2600x & gtx 1080 with xbox one s controller connected with the official wireless receiver. 16 gb of 3000mhz cl14 ram.

Have you heard of the FPS strike pack? It gives normal ds4 and Xbox controllers paddles and has to be used with a wire, so I’m wondering what the input lag is.
