@USA Kilts & Celtic Traditions: Would you like to please tell us what tartans you're wearing on every episode? And can you bring up any tartan you're discussing on screen please? It could add more value to those viewers who have trouble choosing one, and deem browsing through your galleries too daunting a task - myself included ^^

Shirts would've been mid-thigh to knee length back then so your man bits and the kilt would've been separated by a layer of linen, wool, or cotton even without dedicated underpants. Going "regimental" would be a lot less daunting in that scenario, I think.

The Robertson hunting is my "formal" tartan because of my dress attire. The red i use as a day or informal tartan.

I saw a poll of Scottish men who wore kilts quoted on another website, and it said 59% wore underwear at times. Didn't say how often these men wore kilts.

Robertson Red- Modern and Robertson Hunting are an interesting tale. The Robertson Hunting was "listed" in the records back in 1820's, the first mention of Robertson Red was in the 1840's. The Robertson Hunting appears to be based on the Athole District (now called Murray of Athole) and traditionally is claimed to be the "oldest" Clan Donnchadh tartan, since Clan Donnachaidh was based in and claim to be descended from the early Earls of Athole. Clan histories, and their claims on the "Official" or earliest tartans are very interesting. Oh, if we only could time travel back.

Also a specimen of the Robertson "Hunting" tartan was included in the Cockburn Collection 1020-25. It is thought to be the sett of the kilts for the Loyal Clan Donnachie Volunteers raised in 1803. The sett is reputedly ancient and said to have been used only by the Robertsons of the North for which reason it is also known as Robertson of Kindeace. per Scottish Register of Tartans.

Love the chat, as far as myths go I don't if this counts. I was at my local lawn bowls (NSW Australia) and met a Scots fella. When I mention to him I go back to MacDonalds GlenCoe, he said don't mention it if I travel north of Glen Coe as because of the MacDonalds propensity to abscone with their cattle. Play it safe. 😊

21:25 if I'm going with underwear, a solid color with a tighter waistband. I find that if they don't have a tight waistband, the top part of the kilt (where the belt goes, i don't know the name of that part of the kilt) will kind of push the underwear down. I bet that other people who have no butts have that same problem.

I couldn't not wear underwear just for hygiene reasons. I've spent $300-500 for a kilt and now I'm going rub my bare arse on it when I sit? Especially in summer. No thanks.

Wear a sort of internal liner. Serves the same purpose as underwear but lets you go regimental anyway. Fabric is not too expensive and can be easily washed in the washer with your other underwear. (If i'm not being clear from lack of sleep I'm trying to say put on an "underkilt" about 8 inches shorter than your kilt made from store fabric like from walmart for like 10$ a yard)

I have 5 grand-daughters; I NEVER go Regimental. (The first picture with my grand-daughters and myself in a kilt shows one of them with a stick trying to lift it.) Also, I read a comment by a Scottish kilt hire company asking people to not go Regimental as it made cleaning easier. (ugh)

The great kilt was the original, a practical garment for function, which other kilts were purposed to allude to. So, one might say the great kilt had a real purpose and the purpose of other kilts has been to allude to that original. I think this is the reason why some people consider the great kilt to be more of a "real" kilt. Really, if the great kilt was practical, and the time came when the smaller design became more practical, then the change from one to the other is a rather natural progression. After when to some extent kilting was interrupted for some time, and it then returned, one may think its return was somewhat pretentious rather than naturally occurring, but it may be better to argue that not wearing the kilts was artificially imposed and going back to wearing them was the only natural course.

*"some people consider the great kilt to be more of a "real" kilt"* Yep. That's pretty much it.

@@whiskeyvictor5703 Not necessarily for the worst of reasons though. Seems that the discussion in the video really thought the worst of people, like they only think of it that way for the worst most arrogant reasons. There is something special about the great kilt which formal kilts lack, even if formal kilts are also real kilts.

As far as I know the only time a man should wear underwear beneath the kilt is if they are competing at family friendly events and that's it. Can not compete at these events without underwear. When competing in family friendly events is the only time I wear underwear. Learning to ride motorcycles, leathers I think would be acceptable under the kilt for riding motorcycles. Correct me if I'm wrong.

The William Wallace donated statue at the monument is only topped by the 'Zombie Lucy' in Celoron, New York (Lucille Ball's hometown)... It has since been mercifully replaced by a FAR more accurate representation of the woman.

+USAKiltsOfficial *Thanks for the debunk compilation.* Olives, burnt siennas and charcoals are ideal for Hunting Tartans - bright colors will give you away in the field. Compression shorts and slim-fitting boxers are a hedge against kilt lifters.
