AWESOME and educational episode! Episodes like this are what always showed on the Discovery channel before that channel and many other channels got ruined to reality TV featuring drama, bickering, and arguing. All these kind of reality TV shows need to be scrapped and replaced with educational shows such as things about CERN here and many other educational shows restoring the Discovery channel and all the other channels back to the way they all use to be getting rid of that drama reality crap.

Do you find that your superconductor cables need to be annealed after work hardening? In previous work in the cable manufacturing industry, it's common to have to anneal wires after they've been pulled or work hardened.

I thought of a simple way you could explain Dark Matter. Imagine a phonographic record, with deep grooves, and marbles being free in those groves. The Marbles are Stars. Gravity is if you push all of those marbles at the same force, in the same direction. Dark Matter is like turning on the record player, and the outer marbles will seemingly go faster, and travel most the distance. In outer space this could be the Dark Matter moving, like the record. Or it could be a force that is pushing the record, sort of like a hand pushing the record around. Could it be that Dark Energy is adding that force causing the pressure, we detect as Dark Matter? Dark Energy could also act as, the air pushing a pinwheel, from the outside of a galaxy. Speeding up the gas cloud, and stars without needing the record, or underlying connection.

So when these LHC particles clash, is the resulting atom-sized flash bright enough that people could see it? I've been asking this question on KZbin for years, and never got a straight answer. Help me out here you physics bad boys (and girls)!

The particles are protons, very much smaller than atoms, and considering the energy involved, photons would be released along with a great number of sub-atomic particles. So, “bright”? Yes. People have a very limited ability to “see” electromagnetic radiation-just the ROYGBIV range of light-so seeing a flash is not likely. Probably dangerous to try as well.

@Samantha MacDoodoo CERN is an organization. The LHC is the collider you refer to. And there was a collider at CERN before they constructed the LHC. The colliders in the US are still there, in Brookhaven NY, and Illinois. Just so you know. There are roughly 30.000 accelerators operating in the world today.
