Back in 2019 we drove the Kia Sportage and had it as a long-term test vehicle, driving it approximately 24,000km to see how it would hold up over the course of a typical year of driving. We produced two episodes on it covering our experiences with the car and everything you'd need to know about it if you were in the market for one. Fast-forward to today and we're looking at the trim above, and not much has changed.
Our Snapshot is on this 2021 Kia Sportage EX Premium S. The S has been added to the end of most trims without any explanation. Prices have gone up slightly since we drove the Sportage last, and our higher trim provides us with a panoramic sunroof, LED headlights, LED interior lighting, blind spot monitoring, and lane keep assist. The fully loaded SX model comes with a turbo charged engine and SiriusXM Radio, a feature missing from the 2019 Sportage EX we drove.
We go over the other changes from the previous model we drove and then take the 2021 Kia Sportage EX Premium S AWD on a comprehensive real-world road test to talk about how this compact crossover performs, drives, and handles on the road, specifically in winter.

We’ve been told that Kia Canada has already released the 2022 Sportage ordering info to dealers and it will also be a carryover model. If you thought this 2021 was a disappointment the 2022 will be even more so.

Yikes! This makes it a good case for buying used to save its depreciation without loosing out on any significant improvement or design changes.

We thought so too, but it seems we won't be seeing anything new for the Sportage for at least another year. The only change, if you can call it that, for 2022 will be the edition of a Night Sky Edition (or Nightfall Edition in the US), essentially an appearance package on the lower LX trim.

Great review and very good suggestion about Asian Petrolhead. The Sportage SX had caught my eye years ago but average performance with subpar fuel economy have been deterrents too important to ignore.

So would I! They had an event before the end of the year for journalists, but I wasn't invited. They currently have one on our fleet and I'm hoping to be able to book it sometime this winter, but as you can imagine it's a popular vehicle for journalists to get into.

I just got a 2021 ex premium s & you can use the blue tooth feature on your phone if you have the Sirius XM radio app. 📻 and connect it that way.

That's true of any vehicle with Bluetooth. I'm a subscriber of SXM myself and have bene using the mobile app on the press vehicle I end up getting that don't have an active subscription.

Quite small. Not great mileage. Not as nice as several competitors. This car should only be purchased at a large discount.
