I got my transplant done at Miami Children's hospital in Florida ofc I spent a long 6 months in the hospital on high alert precautions because around the time my immune system was weak so it was strictly family and doctors that could see me I went through chemotherapy which was really rough at one point in time I couldn't eat anymore idk if it was due to the chemo or the other meds but they gave me food through the IV so I was fine I prayed everyday I had my mom by my side for almost all of it then my sister stepped in she was also my donor too so there goes my story 😘❤️ (I got it because I had sickle cell anemia disease)

Cried after watching this segment tonight. Both my brother and I were born with sickle cell anemia. He was able to receive a bone marrow transplant that cured him in 2016 from the NIH but I was ineligible because I had no match. To be honest, I had given up on the idea of ever having a long life and I was at peace with that but now...

Yes there is a risk but the alternative is a life of extreme pain and most of the time a premature death. My sister was an exception. She live to the age of 72 although she lived most of her life in pain.

what if radiation alone or chemotherapy alone made the therapeutic mutation not the gene therapy it self or what if it was only from accepting the bone marrow to some stem cells in transfused blood which took over?

I have questions, because there are not only risk, but rare blood types who's bodies fight against either of these diseases which would counteract the treatment in my unmedical opinion.. research shows that to be true.. so how would this work in them even vaccinating them with HIV? I have QUESTIONS..
