I wanna make some 2D Mario hack recommendations, since it's actually quite improved over the "precison platform hell: the game" era: The JUMP series: Honestly, besides A Plumber For All Seasons, probably my main contender of best SMW hack(s) of all time. There's SOME Kaizo-esque levels, but that's not until the post game (though the first game's difficulty curve is a little rough). The rest are well-crafted levels that employ cool ASM tricks to create gimmicks while still keeping to a (mostly) vanilla aesthetic. There's a lot of content to chew on, too. Super Mario Bros 3Mix is probably the greatest NES hack ever. Packed full of content and advancements of more modern games. Edit: Shit, I forgot you covered 3Mix already. Here's another one to replace it, plus a Mega Man fangame (since you seemed interested in MM8BDM) It's called Celeste Mario's Zap & Dash, for SMB1. Amazing hack thatI wish not to spoil. I will say its mechanics are snappy and addicting The Mega Man Fan game is called Mega Man Unlimited. It's a difficult game, but very fun, and fitting considering there's a sequel in the works.

Mario Adventure III kinda blows 3Mix out of the water in sheer scope and consistent quality though. the former has a lot of aimless levels where they tried to recreate areas from other Mario games but they didn't have everything from them to work with so it creates weird empty flaccid levels in spots

A crossover between Banjo-Kazooie and Hatred would be perfection, especially if Not Important is the final boss.

Thanks for mentioning Eclipse :) It's been amazing working on the OST for it. Long before I was ever on the team I was excited for it, it's my favorite fan project from anyone.

"These games do not cost $700" is quite a compelling argument.

Super Junkoïd is a very neat Super Metroïd hack that is worth a try if only for the pixel work and soundtrack.

Shouts out to Ultimate Trial. That hack fleshed out Ocarina of Time's combat in a way that was super fun to mess around with, and I'm not even that crazy about roguelites. It might not be for people who liked OoT's puzzles more than anything, but for me the custom enemies, music, NPCs, and overall passion put into it helped me stick around till the end

I know it's not your forte, but you should shine a light on the Pokémon ROM hack and fangame community. My favorite is probably the still-in-development Celia's Stupid Romhack, which uses the all-too-familiar framework of a FireRed playthrough as the base for an incredibly creative and unbelievably funny comedy puzzle game that rivals genuine full-on indie releases in terms of puzzle quality and comedy writing. It's incredibly good even if you _aren't_ a Pokémon fan, and the more you know about the franchise's weirdest moments, the funnier it gets.

You should cover Super Mario Bros X2 some time. It's a level editor that comes with a handful of episodes built in and has lots of great custom episodes by fans like "Betterified VI"

if you like Sonic Robo Blast 2 Kart, i'd recommend checking out it's sequel, Dr. Robotnik's Ring Racers, which adds many more tracks and racers, along with fully functional AI racers, definitely one of the best fangames i've played this year

I would not recommend it the track designs are dogshit which is surprising because SRB2K had some of the most fun tracks in any karting game
