Are you having trouble producing a good sound on your Low C?

Really excellent advice. I was having the same problem yesterday… I could play a great low c but when it came to playing the second movement of the Godard Suite I struggled to get them at tempo. I was clearly not changing my embouchure quick enough, which can also come with fatigue (and using too much air). Thank you for the video.

You are welcome! That's a great piece to work in this.

oh wow, the exact same piece led me here, too! the bars 20~22 from idylle are definitely a huddle for a low c, in relatively flowing speed...
@DeltaRana42 жыл бұрын
@@fluteteatime yes... that G to low C in bars 20-21 can trip you up at tempo if your embouchure is not set correctly.

Great advice. This has a Latin feel, sounds like a Pno intro...needs a percussive approach. Nail the low notes & let the high ones look after themselves. (from a Sax player who doubles?) Get the rhythmic phrase in low reg happening & then include the stretch. If the FEEL is right they'll forgive us for some intonation...the rough thing is part of the Style. OK this is a great exercise & we improve, but Flt doesn't have to play everything. Let the Rhythm Section earn their wages. Sorry about that rave. Love your videos, you are a brilliant teacher.

I had and still have issues but I saw another helpful video showing the effect of rolling the headjoint mouth piece away (low notes) and towards (high notes). Have you noticed this? Something about the physics of blowing across the air hole.
@DoctorFlute Жыл бұрын
Hi! I am not a fan of rolling one way or another. I am a fan of aiming the air differently. I want to change how the air blows across the embouchure hole by moving my air stream with my embouchure rather then rolling. You can run into all kinds of intonation issues with rolling. Does that make sense?
@VicasBobbyMehta Жыл бұрын
@@DoctorFlute thanks for your reply! that makes total sense and is a relief to confirm as well, because rolling the flute back and forth is just not practical to remember while playing fast, up and down octaves. I will watch your embouchure videos now 😅 & thank you for putting out all these great video tips 👌

Hi Angela, The focus point of the low C is quite narrow isn't it and it so easily breaks, but has beautiful strong harmonics when you hit it just right. It's repeating it time after time that's hard. Thanks for the video.
@DoctorFlute2 жыл бұрын
Good point! It really is a narrow range. But the main thing is that you have to make sure that you don't blow too much air in that register or for that low C.

Awesome teaching as usual Angela, God bless. P.S: I was born in Venezuela and I don't even know how to play a Venezuelan Merengue. :-)

I left my thumb support away. Now I get low C better. I think it's mark of development.

@@DoctorFlute Hello! Sometimes yes, but it is a problem of the emission of breath, which I have not yet learned to dose it ... it has not been long since I started studying the flute again, given the age no longer young, it is more tiring. not all days are the same, sometimes the notes are beautiful and full, and others are not ... but I insist! Thank you
