I'd also like to add on the TV channel surfing video drops important lore on Olympic. BBC report on Olympic in that video states she disappeared yet again in 1998, and was found abandoned in 2004, with no one on board and with her hull paint stripped, just like the Olympic had found Mauretania back in 1911. It also states the Royal Navy towed Olympic back to Newcastle, which is where the Project Britannica operation was trying to restore her and destroy the Mesh. The first video showed Olympic docked at South Shields in 1996, which is a seaside town on the Tyne estuary near Newcastle.

The purpose of the Titanic film is to show how the Titanic took the Olympic's place in history, during this altered timeline. There's heavy implication that the Olympic vanished without a trace due to the Mesh in 1911 and didn't reappear until sometime before or during 1988. Due to that, the Hawke collision never happened, the Titanic was completed in March 1912 and had her maiden voyage the same month and year. As a result she never got in the iceberg's path and went on to have the war time and peacetime career Olympic did in our world, since Olympic was gone. Because Titanic's intended sailing schedule kept her out of the iceberg's path, Lusitania ended up striking it instead and suffered Titanic's original fate.
