I agree that quiet luxury has taken on a different meaning. I am in my 70’s and my business was interior design. I dressed in suits and dresses for many many years. I liked buying jackets that were finely lined, button holes that were are all finished, if you could turn the jacket inside out it would of be as fine as the outside. Dresses had all finished inside seams. I have silk dresses from the 70’s and those silk were true luxury. Even fine linens and fine cottons have been replaced. Too bad. Wearing luxurious fabrics gave me a great feeling. That is one of my luxuries still today but I have to shop my closet to find that quality. No matter what it is, you cannot beat quality no matter what item it is and it has nothing to do with logos.

I so agree with you! Luxury is about high quality materials and matching highly skilled manufacturing of garments and accessories. Quality has taken a considerably nose dive in "luxury" using ever cheaper materials while prices have gone up ridiculously. Looking at a lot of well known designers like Dior, Gucci and Chanel I see this especially.... Cheaper and cheaper materials, mass manufacturing, watering down of fragrances, products made to tarnish or come apart quickly while simultaneously prices have increased close to 50% in a decade for some. There is nothing luxurious about these anymore.. Just empty branding aimed at the masses
@nicoleloor7861 Жыл бұрын
@@exomake_mehorololo It’s such a shame because I would still purchase items with good quality. The trend is disposable. Buy it cheap, wear it, on to the next item. I’m so happy that all the wools, linens and cashmeres and silks that I bought were classical styles still so much in vogue today.

Your post made me so wistful. I totally get what you mean about quality and craftsmanship. I used to work at a folk art store, back in the 90s. Even then we were seeing a diminishing of those things from the 1970s era and earlier. My boss was like me, she loved old things. We carried vintage quilts and they were so lovely I get misty remembering how they looked and felt. The old jewelry we carried was so special too. I used to wear a lot of vintage clothing during those years and I so loved the feel of 1940s cotton blouses against my skin, and old 1940s sheets too. The quality of that cotton was such that I haven't been able to replicate how it looked and felt nowadays, even shopping high end brands. Sad.

Mine is makeup, perfumes. I do have a story that is embarrassing. I was with some other women and one of them remarked about my makeup. When I told them what I was using they made a big deal out of how much it cost, and how they would never spend their money like that. Basically shaming me on spending so much and they would never do that. I was very embarrassed and I did feel ashamed. When I got home I went and looked at my makeup collection an came close to throwing it all away because of this. Then I remembered how much I loved playing with and testing new things and that fact that I work hard for my money and if that’s what I want to buy it’s no one’s business. I know this is off subject but when started talking about quite luxuries subject it reminded me of it. An those people who are treating quite luxury like it’s only for the wealthy are gonna give it a bad name. Everyone has a luxury item or items they buy that they consider a quiet luxury wealthy or not.

I've also embraced my own version of quiet luxury as I've gotten older. I'm a teacher, so I'll probably never be able to afford designer clothing, but I have quit buying fast fashion. So now, instead of buying 10+ items each season that may only last a year or two, I only buy a couple pieces that are well-made in quality fabrics that will last. I have fewer clothes now, but they all make me feel good when I wear them. I saved my pennies and bought myself a beautiful cashmere cardigan and I put it on over comfy clothes every day after work. It's such a simple pleasure, but it instantly makes me feel indulgent and ready to relax.

I agree with you on your take of quiet luxury. I think the way that it's being discussed on TikTok is completely far from my take on it. I just see it as understated vs. overstated luxury and I like both depending on my mood. I think quiet luxury focuses more on the quality of the materials and the fit, which is timeless and usually classic. It think "loud luxury" has its place because it's fun, editorial, creative and expressive. There's room for both. At least that's my view...

I thought a lot about Quiet Luxury and Old Money after your video. I live in Europe, in Vienna the Austrian capital. Old Money over here basically means that your family committed the worst crimes during WW2. Only a few Jewish/Austrian Royalty families are left which survived and got their wealth back. So Old Money is not really what I am into. Quiet luxury is for me lush materials, often times Vintage and items I bought myself 20 years ago. Leather, linen, silk, cashmere ... you name it. And I love travelling. Exploring our world is the biggest luxury to me. Taking the time, appriciating other countries and cultures and feeling inspired even months from the last trip ... while working and living my ordinary life in Vienna. Of course I like luxurious make-up otherwise I would not know your channel but my collection is tiny. Another personal luxury is buying one piece of modern art per year. I love owning these pieces.

To me quiet luxury is certainly not a bank balance, but a state of mind. Dressing for yourself, with taste and quiet elegance. For me quiet luxury is ladylike etiquette, eloquence and a plethora of knowledge on a vast range of subject matter whilst being tactful but never gagged. Quiet luxury is also about knowing what you like, giving yourself time to enjoy those things or past times and finding quiet joy in the little rituals that spark joy and appreciation for life, be it skin care, hair care and using products that make you feel glamorous in your own life. I know when I go out, quiet luxury for me is dressing well (be that casual or formal), being well groomed and feeling confident, whether people notice me or not.

@Michelewang I agree with everything you said 100%. I originally assumed "quiet luxury" meant exactly what I thought those words were. Not loud logo's all the time or expensive but horribly made luxury item's. I have always enjoyed luxury item's, for details..craftsmanship things that made it special. Then came the newness of younger generations having "designer" everything along with insane price increases. But not so much increased quality. And then I learned "quiet luxury" was meant to be "old money" This is laughable to me. Posing on socials and acting as if item's make these people look rich is ridiculous imo. "Old money" is 7 generations of wealth. Not OWNING a luxury bag. I could go on and on. But thank you for addressing that nonsense. It's obsurd. Love your channel BTW! 🤍

My millennial generation and now Gen Z grew up around social media saturated with a performative life style, often not authentic to oneself, so this quiet luxury emergence does not surprise me. I did not know half of the 'quiet luxury' brands being espoused were in that category since my grandmother always invested in many of these pieces and left it all to me. I see genuine quiet luxury as living the life you seek without the world being a spectator for it across social media. It's about moments I cherish with my little nephew, holidays with loved ones, camping and hiking with friends, a spa week, etc. ultimately, it's about what nourishes my mind, body and spirit.

I find it so relaxing in a way knowing I can wear or have the items without the need for logos…it’s almost as if you don’t have the logo you can’t tell people you have “money”. Its a status that some portray and it never brought me a sense of peace or contentment. It just made me nervous as if I was on display and thats just not who I am nor my personality. I like the good quality pieces of a beautiful blouse or the perfect tailored pants etc etc. It’s a timeless way of looking and feeling in my humble opinion. Your understanding of Quiet Luxury was mine also. I am 46, never watch Tik-Tok and barely ever Instagram. I do like my favorites on You Tube. As I've gotten older I don't mind a charm with a brand that's barely visible, however don't want to see initials or logos all over my handbag or on my clothes. Quiet luxury to me is "back to basics"...good quality silks, cashmere, even high quality cotton and linen, wool, or leather. Neutral colors that I can pair with many things and a "pop" of occasional fun color!! A sophisticated look! Two of my favorite purchases this past year were my long Lilysilk white nightgown. It's absolutely luxurious. Also bamboo cotton sheets from Cariloha. Amazing and wonderful quality fabrics. (And these items weren't even what I consider "super" pricey.) Where I splurge....it's always the top notch skin care, good coats, and good quality boots and flats for work. Considering that pillow spray!! 😊 That was my take away and I've seen other You Tubers talking about the sophisticated look...which is the only thing I had heard about prior! ❤

I loved your first video and didn’t have time to comment on it. I grew up around a mom and grandmothers who are/were quiet luxury. They taught me to find classic pieces that can last more than a season. They dressed very differently from one another yet they could buy each other very classic pieces. I have quite a lot of these “classic” pieces, not because I want to look rich but because I know they can go with anything or take me almost anywhere. And you don’t have to spend $$$$. Some brands that I see as “Quiet Luxury” is Celine(Phoebe Philo mostly), Goyard(because if you know you know), Faure la Page, Belgium Shoes, Akris, Loro Piana, Bernardo, Herno, Harris Wharf London, Brunello Cucinelli, Brioni, Alaia, Eskandar, the Row, Max Mara I feel like I could keep going but I think you get it. I agree that quiet luxury is more like First Class tickets, fancy soaps or candles, perfume(La Labo) it’s little things that you could find at a cheaper price but want to treat yourself. My car is my big Quiet Luxury. To brands though I usually go for bags that don’t have the large logos or they’re camouflaged into the bag. I’ve had someone ask if my Goyard was a wannabe LV Neverfull, which is too funny. I know many ladies who didn’t even know about Goyard until recently and these ladies are quiet luxury to a T. Skin care/ hair care is such a massive quiet luxury for me and I don’t feel guilty for the prices I pay. Edit: Sunglasses and Opticals. I have been obsessed with Celine glasses for years. Like Oliver Peoples there isn’t much on them to make them super brandy

I think there are many interpretations of quiet luxury. Part of the issue is that old money folks tend to dress in classic garments and handbag styles but items of high quality (and expensive). And, for the most party, old money folks do not advertise their wealth with loud logos. My understanding is that quiet luxury has mostly or everything to do with fashion. I've been aware of "quite luxury" for decades, and it has always or seems to have always been related to fashion. Lately, it's just a trend. Every individual can call whatever they want quiet luxury. But I think (and I could be wrong) that the notion of classic quiet luxury is all about fashion. Thanks for your videos. Enjoy your tea and candles. It's a lovely joy of life.

As a fashion trend "Quiet Luxury" is a no logo, classic, high quality, subdued aesthetic. That's what it is. It is no different than the logo-mania trend of projecting an image of being rich. Both are just consumer marketing trends. You seem to be referring to a quiet luxury philosophy of living, which is something different. 💎

There is nothing more luxurious than having a loving family, children whom to pass on your legacy and love them with all your heart. But first and foremost, the greatest luxury in life is to have an intimate relationship with Your Creator and be mindful you are here on this Earth for the purpose to serve Him by serving your fellow brothers and sisters. Everything else, your education, your university degrees, your job/ business/ house/ properties / wealth/ clothes/ travels are all true blessings than millions of people on this planet can't enjoy. Finally, but perhaps most important of all, being in good health is the most precious gift of all. Without it you can't enjoy anything in life. That said, take good care of your bodies, minds, and souls, ladies, and love your families with all your heart. ❤

And yes yes yes to mist - May Lindstrom Jasmine Garden to start each morning, Chanel No. 1 Serum mist midday so I look fresh for the second round of meetings but also feel fresh. And scent everyday even though I'm the only one here. Definitely a way of life ... and as you say, not tied to price but to sensibility.

I'm definitely NOT RICH..I have always made the choice to wear clothing that are well made, timeless and the main thing is HOW I FEEL Daily with anything that brings me JOY & PEACE ❤ Yes I agree with you 100%. It's our OWN choice.

On the subject of a fragrance being discontinued: when I heard that Chanel was (incredibly, stupidly, short sightedly) discontinuing Cristalle Eau Verte, I went on a mission to purchase a few backups. It literally is my summer go-to scent. I put it on when I want to feel awake, when I want to be fresh for a workout session, after a bath in the summer, when i want to feel cool... it's a gorgeous default fragrance for me. I put my backups in a dark, cool cupboard and I'm pretty sure I have enough to last the rest of my life (phew!) 💚 Edited: Chanel are one of those companies that don't play when they say they're discontinuing something. Once it's gone, it's gone! 😩

Have you tried Chanel 5 Leau? It’s not the same but very refreshing
@YouSayTomato Жыл бұрын
@@heavenj7 I have, a while ago now. I'll pull it out, but from memory No 5 L'Eau didn't have the citrus-y freshness that Cristalle Eau Verte has. Good thinking though! always good to have options ☺

I saw your first quiet luxury video and I could tell you hadn’t heard the growing shift from logonaina to quiet luxury and the overtones of “richness” and this idea of feeling superior imbedded in the shift. However, like all things there are folks who don’t feel that way and just enjoy luxurious items that are a bit paired back. Glad you show a different perspective and maybe one day people care less about what others think and focus more on what truly makes them happy.

My mom sews amazing dresses and that is my quiet luxury. No logos, no brands, just incredibly beautiful dresses that I can wear in important events. Luxury is how you read and wear something.

Welllll….. one of my quiet luxuries is going to Trader Joe’s and spending hours shopping! Going down every isle very slowly and looking at all the amazing, wonderful, delicious food item’s! 🤤 I don’t pay attention to the prices, if it looks good- I get it. Seriously though, I really enjoy going there. Not only is their food delicious but the store staff couldn’t be more polite and helpful. Now that’s a place I don’t mind spending my hard earned money at. And of course my high end beauty products. That will always be a quiet luxury for me.

Love your take on quiet luxury and have many of the same items - beauty products (of course), facial mists, cashmere sweaters, perfume in an elegant bottle, etc. But my big personal indulgence is luxe travel accessories - I don’t love traveling much but must, so comfy slippers, a cashmere wrap, and high quality/highly functional luggage (my Rimowa train case is EVERYTHING) takes off the rougher edges. And all of these are for ME.

I'm not very keen on flowers in a house. As a child, I had the greatest chance of living in a beautiful old house with a beautiful old garden. I spent there hours admiring all the different flowers, bushes and trees. I could never think of a better place for flowers to be: in the nature. The day I have a garden of my own, I will fill it with flowers!

Michele! Love your channel. I am so tired of hearing about quiet luxury and "old money and new money thing." I first heard a couple of years ago from Stylehard... I really like her as well--but it was completely off-base when I heard it then. I work hard for everything I earn--I buy what I want and I take inspiration from everywhere... this topic is just poor tatse... Thank you clarify what you think "quiet luxury" is... I am not a logo person, but if you love logos and loud colors... WEAR IT!! If everyone was the same that would be so boring... Personally, I think luxury is way overpriced now. I'm very selective about what I buy... These brands know everyone wants a piece of the hype and they take clear advantage of it... For instance, PVC shoes with cheap stones for $2000+... need I say more.. no pun intended.

I absolutely loved your quiet luxury video and thought you described it perfectly! I don’t know where this snotty “old v new money” viewpoint came from but the quiet luxury look has always been around! To me it’s having really nice things and a clean minimal aesthetic without all the logos and branding , as in loud (hence the opposite of quiet???) Nothing wrong with logos but I suppose the “quiet” part comes from not being able to tell where your item is from as you mentioned in your previous video. BTW Your flowers are lovely 😍😍😍

I love La Mer, I spent so much money on a rotation of expensive and nicely marketed moisturizers for many years as well as well reviewed drug store brands and never noticed anything all that different about them, which became a problem as I aged a bit and my skin dried out. La Mer is the only thing where I feel a noticeable difference every time I use it so it’s now been like 7 years that I’ve used nothing else. It’s actually nice to stop looking because I actually enjoy a product that much… skincare can feel like a hamster wheel of dissatisfaction.

Regarding the video a week ago; I wanted to say Thank You for talking about being an Introvert! That touched my heart ❤ There's nothing wrong with being alone & it's so helpful to hear someone else talk about the things I can relate to 100%!! Because so many don't understand it. And it's true, I think we care & feel so deeply it has to be limited.🤍 So after the last 3 years I think dressing rich has changed. Now it's about fabric, comfort and personal style. Dressing before was mainly about how you looked & what others saw, now it's about how you feel & see yourself... Lounge wear is extremely important for many who only go out a few times a week. The industry needs to focus on that more imo. That includes shoes, but we're getting there. 😊 Thanks for sharing 🤍

I love Diptyque and smelling wonderful fragrances (flowers, candles, perfume) is such a treat. You have reinforced that love for fragrance I enjoy. On the other hand, I have to get rid of icky, artificially scented products. Watching you and having my coffee w hot whole milk on a Sunday is such a treat!
I love love your take on it and that’s why I keep coming back The quiet luxury trend absolutely cracks me up: outsiders telling other outsiders how to (incorrectly) try to be a part of a “club” they will never understand and that doesn’t know they exist, or care about what they’re doing… and can pick them out as an imposter at one glance 🤷🏼♀️😂 It’s great entertainment though. Here’s some quiet luxury for you: using an Hermes saddle because both you and your horse should have the best. Buying art privately because you like it and who cares what anyone else thinks (just thought of Rose from titanic saying “someone Picasso” lol). Putting in a private rose garden so that you can see and enjoy it daily as you please. Love your channel so much❤

I so agree that there is something special about a facial mist. I have sent them as gifts to family and friends, especially those who are going through pre-menopause. My favs are from Fresh (citrusy) and Glow Recipe (watermelon). I'm always looking for new facial mists that do not smell like roses, so many do.

You should check out Skandinavisk candles and diffusers. My friend Sean started it here in Copenhagen, and they are wonderful. My faves are Øy, Koto and Lempi, but there are rose, sea and forest scents as well. And the containers are very chic, very scandi❤

I totally agree with you and point of view on quiet luxury I had been building the idea of quiet/ intimate luxury for myself without realizing it with my shower ritual, skincare & make up selection and clothing. The selections are about an articulated quality that essentially elevates my sensory experiences- touch, smell, taste and touch. For example, two weeks ago, Nordstroms, NYC hosted a master class for Parfum de Marley scents, which was an opportunity to deep dive into quite a number of the fragrances in the format of a wine pairing lead by one of their top trainers . This past week I made a purchase and I have selected Pegasus and Delina de Rose - a beautiful combination, that’s going to be unique to me and on me - my portable quiet luxury. Also fresh flowers every week mine are from TJ’s placed in beautiful vases and I enjoy making lovely displays.

Hello Michele. OMG how I enjoyed and related to this video. I so often listen to your contests but rarely comment. My signature fragrances bring me joy and uplift my mood, as well as fresh flowers, gourmet teas, candles, great skin care (I agree it's very Personal) And my silk and cashmere scarfs. Jo Malone WS & SS + Fig n lotus flower are my seasonal go to. Im a hospital health care provider, and when the pandemic hit for long dark 3 years, Quiet luxury and Yoga saved me. My 25 yr old daughter sort of follow my foot steps in regards to quality vs quantity as she's grown which melts my heart. Blessings and Love to all ❤️

Im so glad that I got off of TikTok. Im in competition with no one. You are so right. It's what makes you happy. I love flowers, as I know you do. Bruce is a phenomenal gardener, and he grows the most beautiful roses, and hydrangeas. They, to me, are luxury. My 2 favorites are Sweet Juliet and Coco Loco. And last week for Mother's Day, Rachel brought me a beautiful floral arrangement that she had done herself. Im a teabag user. Bruce does a tea ritual. He buys tea cakes, that you break off, and he goes through all of these infusions. The cakes come directly from China. Some are quite old. Yes to candles. You'll never know how much it meant to me to win your candle collection. I have candles everywhere. They just lighten my mood. You mentioned quality fabrics. I have my grandmother's cashmere coat, completely lined in silk, from the 50s. It's in mint perfect condition and I will treasure it always, and pass it down to one of my girls. PJs are the best. So comfy all year round. I just adore you, Michele. You are pure elegance. So down to earth and a very classy lady. It's always a pleasure watching you. Perfumes are one of my must have products as well. Have a fabulous Sunday. I thoroughly enjoyed this video. ❤❤🥰

I agree with you! The object is not to look rich, but to look put together with well-made pieces that can last. I disagree with your defination of Stealth Lux, I find that more of the people that do not purchase anything with a label, or their own personal driver etc. but they have amazing wealth. I like a simpler style with clean lines, more Ralph Lauren style. I may not spend my money on Gucci, bags w/ tons of emblems, but I do like to buy items that are classic and fit my lifestyle. Tea, candles and flowers are gifts that we give ourselves and should to improve the small moments of our day. Don't listen to the "angry" tic whatever people" We should define our own life and it seems that so many of us agree with your definition. So, looking forward to your next Vlog or short.

Quiet luxury is a label attached to a way of dressing whether it is high end or not. My mom is 95 and has always dressed in this way and it was her personal style and to this day still is. Her style isn’t labeled, it is the way she puts herself together, very unpretentious. She has never been a fan of logos. She had a marketing company and she always believed that she wasn’t going to be a walking billboard for a brand. It is all very personal but it is in my opinion a gift to be able to pull your self together and look amazing. I wish I had her gift.

I love this video and you as a person. You are so fun to watch and listen to. :) Skincare and perfume are definitely my quiet luxuries (tea and fancy candy too!) I'm not a very showy person in general, pretty quiet and try to keep "blended in"/not draw attention to myself so these types of treats are perfect!
