More Rare and Lost Thomas the Tank Engine Media

I just made a KZbin channel as I thought I'd clear up a little bit of misinformation; TomTomica and I used to be in regular contact back when he was active on KZbin, so I thought I'd just share a few things. TomTomica was German, not Australian, and in the handful of videos where he spoke (including the Wilbert tutorial), he spoke with quite a pronounced German accent. His Wilbert model was created using Percy's cab and running board, along with Bill's boiler and tanks. Quite a bit of cutting and glueing was involved, along with extra careful cutting and glueing required to get the correct spacing under the saddle tanks; it certainly wasn't an easy custom. Regarding his array of red running board engines and painted running board engines (I saw this mentioned before), I might be able to speak to this as an ex-employee of a certain brand's global marketing team. The painted running boards weren't a global update to the line, nor did they replace the unpainted running board engines. Japan introduced painted running boards in the early 2000s, while the rest of the Western world had unpainted running boards. I assume the red running board engines would have been purchased locally, while the painted running board engines would have been imported. As TomTomica was an adult collector (from memory in his 40s!?), money would not have necessarily been an issue when importing trains from overseas. At that time, importing anything from overseas into your country was an expensive endeavour, regardless of if you lived in Germany, Australia, or the UK. In his collection, he had a huge variety of engines, and he was a pioneering person who demonstrated the variation in the engines found in Japan; up until this time, the majority of the Western market didn't know Japan and other Asian countries had engines with much better detail. Motor Road and Rail were how Plarail was sold to the Western markets, and TomTomica's channel was one of the earliest places online to demonstrate the variation between the MRR engines as sold in the Western market and Plarail as sold in the Asian market. About that All Engines Go "pilot", that was actually a test animation that was never meant to be seen public. The reason for its existence, as well as the explanation for Thomas and Gordon's simpler geometric designs, was because it was made to see how Thomas would look in 2D. Those designs were never going to be final.

Ah, yes, I remember Tomtomica's videos from the old days of KZbin. I believe there were two videos of the flying Scotsman - one was a regular showcase of the model, the other a short of the model zooming around a Tomy Rail loop with the 9V battery. I remember it derailing at the end of that video.

I remember the custom Derek video from Tom. It was the very first instance of a totally custom body shell for a trackmaster custom. All his customs were groundbreaking for its day and they started the whole custom trend in the first place.

On the note of the "Thomas the Tank Engine and Friends" game... I wonder if any of the ones that were actually made have been archived somewhere for download. I remember as a kid playing a Thomas game on the Amstrad CPC 464, and another on an actual arcade machine that was in a pub down in Cornwall.

I would like to bring up another piece of lost media of a fan animation that I'm pretty sure people from back then know about, it's called a starr engine. and it was supposedly uploaded around 2013, it's about a Thomas clock waking up a sleepy ringo starr, before shooting his funnel off and spilling milk causing ringo to wake up. (Info from r/lostmedia and the lost media wiki) Apparently the video was deleted around 2017 and only one screenshot of the Thomas clock exist. (The screenshot was found on a Twitter account about old Thomas nostalgia)

To add on, the post on r/lostmedia says the wikipage speculates that the animation could be made by "Ausrail Animations" known for his rolling stock series, and if you look at the only existing screenshot and well, Ausrails models it low-key fits the bill. Sadly Ausrail hasn't uploaded in 2 years and has seem to go inactive so reaching out to them about it might be a loss. (It's also probably good to note that Ausrail isn't even mentioned on the wikipage.)

I’m inclined to believe that new footage was shot for the 2011 DC version of Thomas Blows His Stack, as Bulgy13 showed the props on Twitter for the videos 15th anniversary of the video. There was a video back in the day narrated by what sounded to be a 6 year old. It was a wooden railway story named something along the lines of "Toby, Percy, and the Bridge" and the only thing I can remember of it was Toby and Percy talking to each other (narrated by the kid of course) and the kid goes "and the bridge DID break" and right after, the bridge falls apart violently. I thought it was hilarious. I haven't been able to find this video since, but if anyone knows what I'm talking about, please let me know :)

So I some recent information came out somewhere on why Pierce Brosnan left the show. It was an executive decision by Simon Spencer who was the producer and showrunner. He felt that Brosnan was not appropriate for a production on a smaller scale rather than a feature length special.

I remember 2 videos from my childhood. The first one is a low quality video of the motorised capsule plarail circus van, it went around a small circle on a green table, it had other rolling stock behind it, and it went underneath a signal gantry or something along those lines. The second one I believe was a review of the tender driven Trackmaster engines or a review of recently released Trackmaster items, I don't remember much besides the first clip, which from memory was a shot that zoomed into a building, looked kinda like the wooden railway wash down, the other shot was angled, and of Trackmaster Hank with a train on an incline, I remember the narration said something about how disappointing it was that the engine couldn't make it up the incline, the whole thing was film on a big wooden table, built up like a model railway. I'd love for you to try and get this out here, I seriously have vivid memories of these videos, I definitely watched them multiple times as a small boy, probably around 4-7 years old, both around 2010.

I remember this user called Thompsononline who used to have a Thomas series. One particular episode is called So Long Toby where Toby actually left Sodor and it’s interesting because the set where Toby’s away from Sodor looks identical to MissOliver&Blossom’s iconic set used in his videos. The one and only episode of his channel that sort of still exists is the episode called Percy’s new job where TheBlueE2 actually made a remake on it using the audio from the original video.

Another piece of lost media is two Halloween videos. One called "Haunting Of The Evil Green", where Thomas has an encounter with Alfred, and another by the same user simply titled "Happy Halloween" where he has an encounter with another ghost engine. It might be the case that fan videos make for more interesting lost "Thomas And Friends" media than the show itself. The only other thing I remember is that apparently both videos used ominous music from the "Pirates Of The Caribbean" films.

I remember the Derek video. It was a slideshow of it being put together as well as having orchestral/cinematic esque music playing while. I also remember the scotsman video starting with the guy saying something along the lines of “this is my custom tomy, flying scotsman..” due to the low quality it sounded like he was muttering it haha. i have a lost media case! around 2019 or so there was a youtube channel called either ttatsu, or tatsu. they uploaded videos where they made custom plarail engines, eg. the culdee fell engines or the international engines from the great race, they recorded on a desk with a plarail bus with some thomas promos on it. i cant find the channel anymore, the pfp of the channel was just the regular youtube pfp for names that begin with T, it was in a kinda sand blue colour. tysm for reading, id love a video on this

I remember watching some Thomas vids that were named shed x-2 and it’s basically a shed 17 knockoff. I tried to find the videos but it seems like they are all deleted. I remember that there were 3 videos were 2 of them were slideshows of pics from footage of Thomas and the other video is Murdoch dying and the video seems to be the mad bomber 2 teaser but the clone of Andy that exploded was blocked by a image of Murdoch and I remember a image of Murdoch with blood coming out off his eyes. It started out with a Vanilla Thomas and Spencer transitioning into the race between the Vanilla Thomas and the Modded Jet Engine Thomas, and then ended off with the race between Jet Thomas and Scotsman. Funny how you say the railway series books had changed terminology in the U.S., the complete collection book I had as a kid still retained the Fat Controller/Trucks terminologies. The U.S. terminologies were used when Random House (I think) released some of the standalone books. Also, Oriamletoh. That guy was the first YTPer I ever saw. Shame I couldn't find any of his videos anymore. He had such classics as "The Train that Wouldn't Die", "Gordon Dies in a Ditch" and "Sir Topham Mama Luigi". I wish people saved them...

Lost Thomas Media nobody talks about is 'Gary the Steam Engine' This was a show done by a user called rhysicus, who now goes by Angry Welshman Productions. It was done HO models, starring a 9F named Gary and his friends. The mains joke was that while the characters spoke, they didn't have faces. They made seven episodes (I think), and the last episode involved Gary facing off Thomas, who was portrayed as an evil force. I couldn't find much info about this series. What I could gather is that it was removed for personal reasons many years ago, and that's why there isn't any archive of it. A Trainz version of Gary was made by a channel called Dark DJ Productions. But apart from that, there's nothing left of Gary the Steam Engine.

I vividly remember one or two videos from this thomas series made with hornby and ertl models. One of them was a music video for I think the troublesome trucks song or accidents happen. Two clips I remember from the video were Jock running off the rails with some trucks, and another of either Gorden or Scotsman running onto a broken bridge with their front bogie being left dangling (the lighting of this clip was kind of poor). The second video was a more proper episode where the clip of Jock came from. I barely remember what the story was about but it had Jock take some trucks leading to a runaway then the clip I talked about earlier. I also recall the narrator voicing him with a gruff voice. If any of this rings bells for anyone then more info would be rly appreciated ^^

Here’s a piece of lost media for you “Percy and the ghost diesel” it was just footage of Percy being chased by a “ghost diesel“ which was filmed in trainz (I dont know what version of trainz) the diesel was diesel 10’s class but without the claw and painted entirely white if you look it up on KZbin, there’s a lot of fan made recreations, and in a Halloween video by buffers to nowhere people don’t know why it was taken down, but it was a beloved piece of media back then.

According to several sources, a CGI version of Don't Be Silly Billy was also made alongside Thomas and the Stinky Cheese. The storyboards are even available to be seen. Also this isn't fact but I suspect the CGI model of Billy that was used in it could've been remade into Charlie. Billy was intended to be in the season 13 episode Splish Splash Splosh before they replaced him with Charlie to sell more toys and we know they must've had access to assets from these animation tests as the face for Diesel used for Thomas and the Stinky Cheese can be seen on one of the mainland diesels in The Great Race. To further back this up, they had a CGI model of Dennis for Day of the Diesels before turning him into Norman, also to sell more toys. Also if any of this was covered, sorry. Not watched all of the video at the time of typing, hopefully haven't just wasted my time.

Huh, used to be a big Thomas fan as a wee lad, I remember Thomas blows his stack appearing quite often in the recommended videos for whenever my dad gave me his phone to watch KZbin, always spooked me back then because of his face on the thumbnail. Oddly enough I remember clicking on it once but it was entirely different to the real one. I remembered it being in widescreen, better video quality too, it was Thomas getting tricked by Diesel or something along those lines, and then Thomas gets whacked by this giant mallet contraption, and that face was him beaten up from the whole shabang. Wonder if it was just a dream or something else, if any Thomas fans know what I was talking about then please let me know.

He was an Australian KZbinr who had rare or custom tomy and trackmasters run on his porch ledge and his vids were mostly a minute long. I remember watching them in the early 2010’s. One of the pilots programmed for Thomas the tank engine It would have been filmed with O scale models. Because in the season 1 episode "Gordon takes a dip" in the pond you can see a scrapped "Thomas", that model Is not gauge 1 but O scale another proof Is the lower knapford Building wich was oringinally built in O scale and was modifiend tò be gauge 1.

I have my own lost media Thomas case I guess its a fan video I don't remember the name of it but it had Bachmann Thomas trains all I remember there was a ghost train and spencer didn't believe it until he saw it (also sometimes some sense had mspiant drawn on the engines for different faces) the last I remember is the ghost engines going to the camera (it looked a city of truro model) with the narrator say " Arthur's ghost" I'm sure I'll remember more videos so I might update this comment

After watching the video I wanted to bring up something that I think might be lost media back in I think 2020 or 2021 I remember it was when mid sodor mystery’s came out there where these scary mid sodor themed videos I can’t remember the channel name or the name of most of the videos except one I believe it was called psycho or psychopath that episode was about Stanley on the mid sodor killing one of the engine and then being left to die I don’t recall which one I also rember one where I believe it was Tim dead brother came to haunt the railway I remembered there’s a few days ago and have looked everywhere for them but can’t find them what makes them interesting is they are all made with mostly custom models on a custom set the model of Stanley specifically I think was made from scratch and they where cheaply made because I believe it was a kid making the videos has anyone else see them or am I going insane

Also one more thing I want to mention I don’t think this is lost but I also remember I believe around 2014 or 15 and Thomas wooden ralilway I think it was made with the brio ones where Wilbert is missing and some spy put something in the coal that is all I remember of the video

I can't prove this claim right now due to issues with the Internet Archive, but I swear I've seen certain prints with changed terminology. I'm still not 100% sure which prints, but I might make a post or video on it once I find out for sure. All the newer releases do have the original text, though, as far as I know.
