Thank you educating me so much. This blog about tulips is excellent. As I am in the UK, I've gone o Bulby UK. Would you be able to explain to where to find the divisions, because so far I just see tulips and I would like to order white ones from division 8, 4 and 13. As I learnt from you , they would all be perennial. I'd be grateful if you could explain this to me.

I didn't use to be a bulb fan but now I think of it they are great, you can plant lilies or alliums amongst the spring bulbs like tulips so you have interest for spring and summer in one small area.

I adore bulbs... tulips, lilies, alliums, crocuses. But that's a lot of planting in autumn. 200 down, only 100s more to go! Happy growing.

I see you have your work cut out for you. I buy bags of 25, you buy bags of 100🤣 I also adore Ballerina but they don't come back well for me so I treat them as annuals and plant in containers. I did buy a load of botanical tulips this year for my border so fingers crossed 🤞 I must say the bulbs you got from Bulbi, even through the package, looked top notch.

Hi Una. I feel those packets of 100 on my hands at the moment as I'm just in from planting the Orange Emperor. Interesting about your experience with 'Ballerina' and such a pity. Okay time to get my 'Ballerina' in the ground. Hope you have a sunny day.

@@GardeningatDouentza Thanks Rachel. Beautiful day today for gardening. I want to see your planting video? I decided to use a a bulb planting tool instead of a spade this season (for nodig reasons, plus the tool is good for tight spaces), my hands took quite a beating. I skimped out of paying an extra €20 for a long handled tool, easier to use your legs, in hindsight it would've been worth it.

Ooooh I heard you mention Day Lily in the video. I’ve bought one this year and it was stunning but I can’t find the information that came with it on how to store over winter. Could you please let me know what you do with yours? Mines in a large terracotta pot.
@GardeningatDouentza3 жыл бұрын
Day lilies are perfectly hardy plants, in my climate anyway. They are in the ground. As yours is in a pot, it will be more vulnerable. Plant it in the garden now or move the pot to a more sheltered position for winter (like a south-facing wall of your house.

@GardeningatDouentza2 жыл бұрын
@@jagdishbahia9162 I don't know about Westland's peat status. It will say on the packet. Use compost and horticultural grit for your tulip mix at a ratio of 3 to 1. Place your pot in a sheltered position outdoors. It can be moved once the tulips get going in spring.

Another question (!) Why do some tulips not re flower? They are healthy plants, the bulbs do not rot away in the ground (?) It is because they are just bred to look good once and have poor genetics for long life? It seems vey unfair..?
