This week we get lots more snow... surprise! Tom has to stay home more this week because of the bad roads. The kids play outside some, but it's pretty cold so they find lots of ways to entertain themselves indoors. We've been using the Vegetable Challenge game I made to encourage everyone to try lots of vegetables in new ways. I've been really happy with how the kids are improving on trying new things. We do a little work tidying some things that needed put away in the attic. We get more fun mail from some of our KZbin friends and we try some of the candy that we received previously. And, no, we haven't found Snowball, but we're still hoping!
We homeschool using ACE curriculum. Our kids are 16, 14, 12, 10, 7, 5, 4 and 2. Our baby girl will arrive in April.

An idea for your vrgrtable challenge. A carrot fritata, or tortilla, as we call it in Chile. Grate carrots, for your family at least 13 to 15 large carrots. I use an electric grater and do it in a minute, or you can do it by hand iusing the larger grater side. Sautee onions in little squares until transparent. Put the carrotas raw in a bowl and mix with the onions and 12 whole eggs, and salt and pepper to taste. In a hot oiled frying pan start adding the mixture, you should be able to make about five tortillas. Fry them on one side, then with a plate turn it over, you should cook it for about five to seven minutes per side. They are so good, my grandchildren love them because it is a little sweet. You can serve it with rice or and/or salad. It makes a nice inexpensive meal.❤️🌷

Love the vegetable challenge. I suggest having an apple taste test. Buy a bunch of different apple varieties. Cut them in small pieces. You’ll be surprised how different the apple are. Just make sure keep a sticker from the apple because it gets confusing once they are cut up.

Thomas has got caught out of the basement: joking aside Solomon and Thomas are making quite the pair, which is nice as your little man is growing up. I also like the fact that when dresses are too short for dresses they are used as tops, as you get double the wear out of them, and takes them from summer to winter, too, frugal too

I love watching your family. I think Asher is a very wonderful young man the way he is with Claudia is beautiful. I also noticed that cursive writing is mentioned. They don't teach that ary much in schools in my area in California. My granddaughters are 4 & 5 and their Mom's have said they will teach them. All children should be able to write and read cursive. There are many great and wonderful things to read.

Ok. My mom and dad loved mashed turnips with salt, butter and milk. My husband had never had it until he met me and he loves it. I still don't like it but I will try it if it's on the table. I do love steamed turnips. Chop them up fairly big, steam or you could parboil then drain. Put butter and sugar and mix it up... it kinda makes a glaze. OMG!!!!! I have got to make some this weekend. Supposedly broiled or mashed radishes are good. I'm not convinced. LOL. I love sweet potato casserole, fried sweet potatoes with a bit of brown sugar and creamed spinach. I was a very picky eater as a child. I still hate liver and onions though.

What an adorable dress Claudia wore to the library.. Here in the Northwest it is snowing tonight. It wasn't even in the forecast. Usually it is, and for 3 days before the big blizzard (2 inches of snow qualifies) they are flocking to the stores for supplies. Then it snows, turns to ice and everyone is trapped for a day (with 2 weeks worth of food). The next day it melts and everything goes back to normal. It's hilarious.

we have been trying to eat more veggies and my dad really likes soup so i made a kielbasa and bean soup twice in the last 2 weeks and my nieces really liked it even tho they dont like veggies. it was the weight watchers kielbasa and bean slow cooker soup if you want to look it up . it is chicken brother, kielbasa, diced tomatoes , white and black beans , onions, garlic and then i added a whole head of cabbage and a couple zucchini i also cooked it on the stove not in the slow cooker. now if i could just get my 2 year old to eat something besides mac and cheese

Love seeing all the things you do, and love the organizational tips. Working on doing more of it myself. Do you have a good place to buy label maker and labels fairly inexpensively? I notice you use a lot of them. What I have experienced is that buying labels with any regularity gets really expensive! Also laminators/ and lamination stuffs.
@TheMillsFamilyVlog
@TheMillsFamilyVlog 6 жыл бұрын
I got my label maker from Amazon. This is similar to the one I have: www.amazon.com/Brother-P-touch-PC-Connectable-Label-PT-1230PC/dp/B001IKKIVM/ I try to order generic label tape; it's a lot cheaper. This is a 6-pack of colored labels for $19.00. www.amazon.com/Compatible-Brother-P-Touch-Labeling-Laminated/dp/B073VFFX2D/ (You can get even better deals on plain white labels.) The cartridges make about twice as many labels as my cheaper Dymo label maker. Even though the Dymo machine is less expensive, in the long run I think the Brother is a better deal (if you use generic label tape) and you have a lot more options with the Brother. As for my laminating machine, I also buy generic laminating sheets at Walmart. I can't remember the price, but I want to say they're about half the price of the Scott brand sheets.

Great ide to get the kids to try vegetbles. My kids know my one rule when it comes to foods. You do not have to eat it, you do not have to like but, you do have to try it. Which means taking a bite or two, chewing and swallowing. If you do not like it after that, that is ok. I am glad you tried it. My youngest figured out she likes liver that way. I don't eat. Mybkids eat much more than I do. I have also told my family, who are picky eaters to not say "yuck your gonna try that?" Or to not make a face, esoecially when my girls were small, because if you say gross or make a face they just copy you even if they have never tried it.

Andrea did u introduce ur children to vegetable's at an early age? Do they all dislike them? When I was young I didn't care for some too. My Mom alway's had veggies n salad with every dinner meal . I do this also now at least six day's out of the WK. Will Thomas attend College ? Is that something he wants to do ? N are u planning to Potty train Claudia before the new baby arrives? My friend is having problems trying to train her two n a half yr.old it seems to bother her Mother (Gramma) more then her. She says her Mom tell's her stop making excuses to get her child Potty trained. She asked me for advice what do u think Andrea? I told her to be patient n keep trying but not to over whelm her. Sometimes a child actually trains themselves. It's been yrs n yrs my children are adult's now. What advice do u have Andrea? Tyfs

We've always served vegetables to the kids, but certain personalities are much more accepting of them than others. Asher and Solomon are notorious for rejecting new things or changes. Asher has grown up to the point that he'll do what he's got to do, but it's a big struggle for Solomon still. I've been so pleased with how far he's come with our little game. It's affected other things, too. He ate a breakfast cinnamon roll for the first time this Sunday because he was finally willing to try it. He's also been afraid to sit in the bathtub all of his five years. (He sits in a low squat because it makes him feel more secure.) A few days after starting our vegetable challenge, I was standing in my room folding laundry while he was in the bath. He called me in to show me that he was sitting on his bottom! I was so proud of him! Thomas and Eden have always been quite willing to eat most anything. Judah and Justus are somewhere in between. Sophia and Claudia are also a mixed bag, but our game has definitely been giving new courage to the timid eaters. As for college, I don't know if Thomas will attend or not. I'd prefer he didn't unless there was a very specific reason. I, of course, will leave it up to him. I've debated about whether or not to potty train Claudia before Hannah arrives. We're in the potty play stage at this point. She likes to have a turn to sit on the potty, though it still scares her a bit. When she can sit and feel totally relaxed, I may go ahead and do it. In my experience, the thing that must be kept in mind with potty training is that children are born with full control over their bladders and bowels. It's always a voluntary action when they eliminate. Some cultures potty train almost from birth by giving the child cues to teach them when and where it's acceptable to go. In cultures like ours, children grow up for their first few years learning "anytime, anywhere" is acceptable. Potty training is not so much teaching control as it is breaking a very ingrained habit. Habits can be very hard to break. The quickest way is to leave no other option. When it's time, diapers, pull-ups, etc. need to go from day one because they just reinforce the habit. It's best just to accept that for the next several days we're going to have some messes, but when the only option is the toilet or a mess (that the child has to help clean up) you get through it pretty fast. At nighttime, I also start right off with underwear on the kids. (I lay down a towel or pad under them, just in case.) Nighttime accidents don't really last any longer than day time ones. After the first few days, potty training becomes more an effort to help them go before it becomes an urgent situation. Most accidents happen because they underestimate how bad they need to go and wait too long to get to the potty. That's where good routines help. (Go as soon as you get up, go right after you eat, etc.)

As far as potty training goes I think it really is easiest if the child wants to do it. I told my 2.25 year old last night that we didn't have anymore diapers, she looked for them but couldn't find them (we do have more). She pretty much told me that we needed to go to the store and get more because she "needs" diapers. It was pretty comical, but clear that she doesn't plan to use the potty, I'll just wait. I fought my older child to use the potty and she was determined she wasn't going to.........when I decided I didn't care anymore she pretty much trained herself; she was 4 but I didn't have to fight her and it was so worth it to me. I had TONS of people telling me she needed potty trained; however my mother wasn't one of them.

Ty Andrea for ur reply I let my friend read ur advice on Potty training. For myself I told my friend I can't really give advice cuz my boys are grown n adults all I remember is that my boys were completely potty trained by 2. My youngest boy actually learned even younger then ,2 he was ,19mo's old he was taking his diaper off n sitting on the potty every morning I was shocked but welcomed it . I'm a grandma now n I've noticed when children are ready they train their selves but we need to give them a little help by asking if they need to go or just want to try n sit on the potty.

Ace's Place in UK ours go to nursery at 3 and 1/2 they wouldn't take a child in nappies,children don't like to be dirty and as Andrea says you have to take them after eating and put pants on straight away don't do nappies one day pants next just give the child time expect accidents and they do just fine,I found girls quicker than boys,once they are in pants they hate them been wet,disposable nappies are so good at keeping them dry the child never feels wet,but 4 to me is to late for potty,some are at school at 4,when a child can talk and understand its time to potty train,it's amazing once encouraged how quickly they will get hang of it,but you can't potty train with pull ups as again the child won't feel wet,xx

holiday 2406 totally agree I wrote comment I hadn't read yours but your spot on,some people aren't patient and still want to go out,you kinda have to start it and you'll maybe be in a week but all worth it,children hate been wet and the new nappies and pull ups the child never really feels wet ,in pants however they quickly learn I don't like this wet and stinky ,but 4 is late in UK some are at school,mine all done by 3 my daughter 2years 6months and they weren't in nite nappies when started nursery that was before 4,makes huge difference as no nappies to buy or wash,when the child can talk and communicate well Defoe time,just go for it,they start to see it like fun and small rewards from us make it fun and they want to do it,xxx

Just had to tell you this sweet story, Andrea. After hemming and hawing for weeks about buying this machine, my husband finally solved my problem by saying, "Either you buy the machine, or I will; then donate it to you!" So I just ordered it, and am SO excited for it to come!

Andrea, this is not related to this video at all. ( Although I do love watching your family!!) Where can I find your printout of what you eat everyday when your pregnant? I can’t seem to find it. Do you follow the Dr. Brewers diet? Lastly, what vitamins/ herbs do you find beneficial during pregnancy?

Here's a link; yes, it's based on the Dr. Brewer diet. I'm hoping to do a video very soon on herbs and supplements I use for pregnancy and birth. www.andreamills.tv/daddy-assisted-birth-1 (You have to scroll down past the birth supplies list and prenatal checklist to get to the diet checklist.)

How likely would it be for Hannah to be born early?

Not very... I've never had a baby arrive more than 3 days before the due date. Five of the kids arrived after their due date. I've went well past my due date more than once.

Andrea Mills Andrea, if someone asked me 10 days ago that same question, i would of given the same response. I never had a baby come more than 5 days early. However my 10th child came 3 weeks early on valentines day. Totally unexpectedly and i was caught off guard. So it can happen. 😉😂

Babies love to come on their own timelines! My earliest was born at 27 weeks, my next earliest was 35 weeks. Five of them came 1-3 weeks early. One came on his due date (though there was some discrepancy there, so he could have been earlier according to my doctor). One came a week late.
