This is in the Concert Key of Ab This would put Tenor and Soprano Sax players in the Key or Scale of Bb.

Bro I have 2 questions 1. Do you give lessons? 2. Why do the sax play in a whole different key then the pianist. You said they play it in Aflat but you have to play it in F.

I do give lessons For more information, email me at [e-mail] Piano, flute, oboe, violin, and all bass wind instruments (tuba, trombone, etc) are what we call "C Instruments". "Bb" Trumpets, "Bb" Clarinets, "Bb" Tenor Sax, "Eb" Alto Sax, French Horn "in F", English Horn "in F", etc are what we call transposing instruments. So we use Concert Pitch language based off of the C Instruments to communicate across various instruments. I do not remember how this concept came about honestly. It would have made more.sense to have a unified pitch system. Why is alto sax fingers 123 called G instead of Bb? Maybe it something to do when each instrument was developed and the lack of widespread information from its origin to keep it unified? I dont know. Its somwthing I havent looked into in a very long time.

Nicolle Ornelas ... if you are shopping for a beginner: Yamaha, Selmer, Vito, Le Blanc, Jupiter, Antigua Winds, Keilworth, Cannonball, and Jean Baptiste. There are some other decent brands like Bundy or Armstrong. stay away from cheap online brands like Mendini and Cecilio.

How much did you pay for your Alto Saxophone?

This is a Yamaha 62 Custom (YAS62) I got it in Nov 2005, at that time it was about 3K. The newer renditions of this sax are generally about 2800.
