“More than expectations…” Konark Sun Temple’s architecture leaves ambassadors, diplomats spellbound

Ambassadors, High Commissioners, and diplomats from 14 countries, along with their spouses and associates, visited the iconic 13th-century Sun Temple in Konark, Odisha on November 16. Speaking to ANI Bhutan's Ambassador Vetsop Namgyel praised the UNESCO World Heritage Site, calling its intricate carvings and architectural design a masterpiece deserving eternal preservation.
Bhutan Ambassador Vetsop Namgyel said, “Well ah this is my first time visiting the Konark Sun Temple. I have heard so much about it. And what I see when I actually found the site met my expectations and even more than my expectations because this is a very important historical moment. The architectural design is something that deserves to be preserved forever as a world heritage, the sculptures the carvings are very and very masterfully done”

I have been to odisa. Wonderful place. Annoyin thing was there were fake priest like people with sticks hitting you and asked for money at Puri. Konarak is beautiful. Not much high class accommodations to stay. Maybe it has changed in the past few years since. Odisa ❤.

Imagine if it was still in it's prime form. It was 20 times more majestic than currently. And 100 times more majestic than any Tajmahal. . A huge Chariot pulled by 7 horses of the Sun Deity Surya. This concept is fascinating enough.

Why do we need to compare it with later monuments? Konark and many more ancient temples ( many are destroyed and some are in ruins ) are way more complex and beautiful than Islamic monuments.

Plus, seven horses personified the seven colours of lord Sun, and the three sun god idols (8-10feet) were floating in mid air in 3 gates (east, south and west) showing the exact time of the day.

Sadly, due to the Mughals, 60% of this magnificent structure has been destroyed. Yet, the Sun Temple continues to stand strong. Every year, we face cyclones, and we always pray to God, asking for the strength to endure these challenges. 80 kg ton magnet at the top of the main temple due to which the Sun god idol was floating in space ,but removed and taken by Dutch because it used to deviate the compass in Ships . Still today also you can see broken main temple and Iron rod pillars there at the purest and finest form not even a small rusting even it is more than thousand years . What an amazing engineering
