most modern car bodies are primarily plastic. it crushes easily, making it safer if you crash; it's lighter than metal, so you need less fuel to make a car go and less power to make it stop; and it's cheaper to mass-produce than metal car bodies. carbon fiber and other Fancee Materials are just plastic mixed with other stuff. it's actually kinda interesting how car parts are made, my dad is a machinist specializing in weird vintage parts that're out of production and I helped prep a mold once for pressing. lots of meticulously scraping clay over bumps to smooth them out. Mythbusters did some stuff on car safety that's incredibly funny.
