+Julian Birch In my personal opinion, the worst thing in the e-mails was her opining in her "Bank speeches" that the best people to regulate the Banking Sector are the Banking Sector themselves. If 2008 has taught us anything, it's that the Banking Sector is *woefully* incapable of regulating itself.
@wordforger8 жыл бұрын
Ahsim Nreiziev A good answer. I certainly agree. Still, it's not really all that "shocking" to me. She's far from the only one to hold that opinion.
@AhsimNreiziev8 жыл бұрын
***** It's not exactly shocking, no. But due to the fact that, in 2008, we only narrowly avoided what Herman van Rompuy, possibly the least Hyperbolic politician Europe has brought forth in the last 100 years or so, called _"falling into the abyss"_ -- and what those insiders of Wall Street that *do* like Hyperbole have termed a "Financial Apocalypse" -- meaning something from which we *cannot* recover, having those opinions undeniable in black and white is still rather important to mention -- and it saddens me greatly that _The Daily Show_ failed to do so.
@yuotueb8 жыл бұрын
Duuuuude, read the damn emails. She did NOT say "the banking sector should self-regulate", she literally said (direct quote!) "the people that know the industry better than anybody are the people who work in the industry" - that is a tautology, obvious on its face, and nothing nefarious unless you interpret something evil into it. But then that's in your head, not her mouth.

There's no doubt that Trump is worse than Clinton... but I don't think it's fair to totally give Clinton a pass. There are some pretty damning things in Wikileaks, and they would be devastating if Clinton were running against literally *anyone* else. She truly is the luckiest candidate of all time. As the second worst nominee in American history, she is fortunate to be running against the guy who takes first place.

Dylan Maloney Can we talk about Hillary without ever mentioning Trump? People criticizing Hillary do not mean they support Trump. Don't just wash it away by saying Trump this, Trump that. We get it, he's a maniacal bigot. Hillary is the lesser evil, but she is still in the evil category.
@waterytart84118 жыл бұрын
Inaccurate. She said too much regulation, just like too little regulation, was bad. And that people from within the industry should be brought on by the government to help create regulations. And that blaming the banks entirely for the crisis was "an oversimplification".
@Fatortu8 жыл бұрын
Gary Johnson doesn't care about foreign policy nor big banks. Jill Stein is pandering to conspiracy theorists and often overuse the appeal to nature. Bernie Sanders didn't care that much about gun control and his plans for foreign trade would have damaged the economy. Hillary Clinton is a hawk on foreign policy and is a direct contributor to the mess in the middle East. All politicians have their flaws. I think you can reasonably argue between those four characters, policy plans and ideologies. Trump simply does not compare as his policy plan is mostly made up by the journalists who try to make sense of anything he has ever said. And as he positionned himself on every side of every issue, nobody can have a meaningful conversation about what he stands for. The others all have at least some good policy ideas. Trump has never spoke about anything feasible yet.
@AhsimNreiziev8 жыл бұрын
+Dylan Maloney Trump is worse, yes _[assuming that that is what you're saying]_. But do you really think that, in the Internet Age, painting Hillary in a less negative light than is warranted by the truth will help her chances of winning? People pointing out bad stuff about Hillary doesn't mean that they want Trump to win. More people realizing that would, in my opinion, only diminish Trump's chances of winning further than they already are at this moment.

***** Bullshit. Utter and complete crap. All that these emails show that the US Government was doing the job it is supposed to do, i.e., promoting its national interests. Which, btw, everyone else was also doing (including Russia, China, India, Italy and France), i.e., making a beeline for Libyan Oil. And then it shows that Clinton supported the Libyan uprising. For all the bravado, Obama and Clinton didn't destabilise and cause Libyan uprising, they merely reacted to it. The Iranian Coup of 1953 is what US led regime change looks like. And there isn't a single shred of evidence that Americans even tried to give weapons to ISIS or jihadists, they looted their weapons from Libyan army weapons caches. So holding Clinton responsible for that is utter and complete crap. And that is all that those emails show. A competent foreign office doing its job properly. Its a dirty job, and all sides play equally dirty.

Okay but Trevor nailed it here. We know almost everything there is to know about Hillary's life, what she's said and done behind closed doors, and how she reacts to events in the comfort of her own home. And what have we found? That, at worst, she wants open borders? That she would be incredibly boring to grab a drink with? That she makes political mistakes? That weighed against her tremendous accolades and experience and qualifications means that it's obvious (to me at least) that she is the ideal candidate for President.

This started out great but quickly turned into dismissing and downplaying the leaks. The Risotto joke was good but then they proceeded to ignore so many emails that had actual substance to talk about. And when they did they focused on and downplayed pretty angering statements. Hillary saying it's okay to have an public and private opinion, when you look at the full context of the quote not just what was shown, she's admitting it's okay to be two faced and lie. She admits that she thinks its okay to promote positive policies openly then in private take donations and support policies that are anything but in the public's interest (like she claims she believes climate change is a real threat, but then goes to vote for the Keystone Pipeline, fracking, offshore drilling, and wanting to get in bed with the Saudis over oil). Daily show is still good at hitting Republicans, but they're ignoring and downplaying how more and more of the Democratic Party is becoming like the Republicans, which this lack of informing causes lack of accountability which increases the chances of the Democratic's shift to the right. And at the end of the day, yes they still have a better rhetoric than Republicans but that is not saying much. This show used to promote liberal ideas and not party loyalty (cause those two are definitely not the same thing).

lincoln lied to the border states in order to appease their reservations about entering into civil war around the key issue of abolition. now that is one thing, when you lie to people with ties to traitor secessionists, but the american public is not the confederacy. it might be moral for police to lie to a drug lord in a sting operation in order to arrest them, or to lie to nazis that you are not giving refuge to persecuted jews, but that is not equivalent to what she is doing, which it would have to be for her views on the matter to make any sense. otherwise it comes off as duplicitousl the question is, which face is her truer face, her private or public face, and to whom is she presenting it?
@hippo112228 жыл бұрын
Hooya2 consolidating themselves in times of war was key to passing the 13th amendment. remember, they still had to contend with the northern democrats that were still members of the union who opposed the amendment. they needed a couple democratic votes along with the republicans, both conservative and liberal in order to pass the amendment. the war being an ongoing struggle was the pressure they needed to abolish slavery as a war provision. at least that is how lincoln sold it to the border states, which is why what i said was relevant.

Similarly, if it's hypocritical to have a private and public positions, then should the state not keep any secrets and risk its citizens' security?
@jonahbuckley81548 жыл бұрын
There is a vast difference in telling your significant other (or your best friend, or whomever) one thing versus ones "public opinion." What we are talking about regarding Hillary is two public opinions. That's hypocrisy.

i think trevor was a bit glib in his description of hillarys wall street speeches, when she rails against wall street in public but in private tells them she's on their side, it further undermines her credibility and reaffirms everyone who doesn't trust her. It would be like finding out donald drumpf is actually a really nice guy who respects women and mexicans and everything you've seen is just his public persona, just an act he puts on, it's not what he really thinks.

Hillary is by far the most level headed out of the two. That said, we technically have not declared war since 1941. Sadly, we will probably always be involved in "conflicts" and Hillary would handle the inevitable "conflicts" better. Trump can't even handle his twitter account (I'm not in love with either candidate).
@kickhuggy8 жыл бұрын
Mahmoud Maguid while I do like Hillary, I'm not sure how much she wants peace, unless she's learned from Libya. but the doof is very unstable and he's way more likely to start a hundred wars. so at the end of the day, I think Hillary would have less people killed, but I think we do need be careful and not see her as a peace loving nun

Hillary's one real strength is that she is a bit of a foreign policy savant. Domestic policy has always been on the back burner since she became Secretary of State. I'm not really a fan, but looking at her foreign policy experience shows that she knows what she's talking about.

Trump doesn't understand why we don't use nuclear weapons, and wants to give them to more countries. He has no problem with committing war crimes, as he has suggested multiple war crimes on multiple different occasions. He's a thin-skinned narcissist who feuds with people over petty insults. He's definitely not the person to be Commander-in-Chief of our armed forces.
@justinlacy3708 жыл бұрын
Actually Trump is the most likely not to declare war. The Obama - Clinton Administration have already publicly attacked Russian and threatened to cyber attack them. Trump has said he would prefer to keep the peace with Russia during debate number 2. Even GREEN PARTY Jill Stein says Hillary is more likely if not determined to start a war with Russia.

I'd take an at worst murderer over a molester and person who has the temperament that will start World War 3 if he is elected. I mean the idiot things if he sinks another countries ship over them insulting american sailors then that won't bloody start a war, YOU DON'T GET DUMBER THAN THAT.

@XatxiFly8 жыл бұрын
Hitting both sides equally would necessarily mean being too easy on the right or too hard on the left. It's supremely dishonest to represent both sides as equally flawed. One is a problematic but genuine attempt at democracy, the other is a hategasm dumpster fire from an alternate reality.
