Something that wasnt mentioned about the story of Done Goofed is that the person they made the song about, Damien Leonhart, would go on to claim in 2018 that their lead singer, Dahvie Vanity, raped them when they were a minor. There's some pop song they play over the loudspeakers at my work quite often, and I guess it's supposed to be like anti-selfharm/anti eating disorder/empowerment song, but the more you pay attention to the lyrics, the more it comes across as the singer legitimately glamorizing self harm and eating disorders, essentially claiming that people with those sorts of struggles are stronger and more beautiful than people without them, and telling them these people that they're perfect as they are and don't need to change anything. I can't tell if it's meant to be able to be interpreted either way or it's just so badly written that it misses it's own point. Like I could kind of see the whole "you're amazing despite your issues, don't let others bring you down" message the first couple times they played it, then i realized there's actually nothing in the song saying to even bother fighting the urge to cut/starve yourself, and essentially shifting blame from the person cutting themself to the world for demonizing them cutting themself. No idea what the song actually is, but it absolutely infuriates me.
@isabellamorris79022 жыл бұрын
I think I know what song you're talking about - the best way I can describe it is that it's weirdly voyeuristic ("your personal struggles with self-destructive behaviour MAKE you beautiful and interesting, subject of this song! I am telling this MOVING AND DRAMATIC story to the whole world!") Not every track about self-harm has to labour the point that This Shit Bad Yo, but I just don't think that particular stripe of Radio Ballad is the right place for the material. Clean, safe, packaged pop is fun - but with this subject matter it sounds like it's trying to make real life self injury and ED sufferers into "main characters" for money.
@lordowl35332 жыл бұрын
@@isabellamorris7902 I get what you mean about how they don't have to make a point to say, "this shit is bad yo", but I feel like if they just kind of worked to moreso imply it, i feel it would feel a little less infuriating, but to me it absolutely comes across like if the singer happened to see a young girl cutting herself in person, she'd be all like, "so brave, so empowering, she's beautiful just the way she is" and shit and that's just incredibly off-putting. Like sound wise, it's not a horrible song, but like I'm not the biggest pop fan out there, so I have no clue what it's called or who it's by, but it just feels like the lyrics are so badly written that it totally missed its own point.

It wasn't the pressure that made the album turn out so hated, it was the fact their manager, Bernie Rhodes, pretty much took full control of the album. So Bernie co-opted what The Clash were trying to do so he could try and cash in on the fame. I loved the picks in this video, and if there's ever a part 3, here's some predictions/songs i'd like to see: Flyysoulja - Im an Island Boy An awful song all around, with the mastering being the worst part of all, not one second of thought went into it. The skit in the intro makes it even worse. Corey Feldman - Lovin' Lies Another mistake by Corey. The beggining of this song has some of the worst autotune and mixing i've ever heard period, im still shocked about it. The only decent part is the EDM drop, which i dont think was made by Corey, probably was stolen. Dream - Mask What can i say about this song that hasnt been said already? Terribly cringey lyrics with a very uninteresting instrumental, and the fact that you can barely say anything about it thanks to Dream stans makes it worse. Blood on the Dance Floor - Rise and Shine A song about school shooting, with lyrics that make it sound like a parody. Not only that but the song has a dubstep drop that doesnt fit on a song that's trying to comment on a serious subject. Hobo Johnson - My Therapist I was going to put I want to see the World here but on second thought i find My Therapist more annoying. Its the slowest, most boring song ever and when its not that its just SCREAMING in your ears. Alison Gold - Chinese Food A super cringe song in every way. Its the most generic pop sounding instrumental with lyrics that make me die inside. I know the artist is young, but not everyone in the production of the song was young and teenagers have made so much better things.

Absolutely. Before I actually started actively seeking out my own music taste, I used to like Imagine Dragons and Train a lot, so it would be like hating my own naive early teen self to hate them. I still listen to the latter from time to time, mostly because my mom loves them, but no one can make me say that Drops Of Jupiter is a bad song even if it's the definition of an unexplained reference

I think pop falls apart more when you really analyze it. It’s kind of like why critics hate many blockbusters. They have the experience in the medium and technical knowledge that they see cliches and bad decisions that are invisible to average consumers until they’re pointed out. A ton is down to personal preference too though. I actually really like Lewis Capaldi and Lucas Graham because of how overdramatic and corny their vocals are at times.

Imagine Dragons is not bad at all, it just has become this generation's Nickelback

@@Mr_Leo_DS nah, they really are bad. They have had some good and some alright songs though. Radioactive is a also simply a good song tbh, and very nostalgic.

Brad should do a full reaction of The Shaggs - Philosophy of the Truth, once you look past how terrible they sound there’s actually something kinda beautiful about them all trying their best to fulfill their dad’s dream, I think it would make for a good episode/stream

I'd say YFM has one banger for sure, which is Orphan Tears, it actually sounds good and Wax's verse is great

Didn't expect Sticker by NCT 127 to be here lul. That song has everything that I dislike about current SM Ent. sounds. Inserting a weird sound and loop it until the end without any development doesn't make it good(Unless you're Steve Reich or Philip Glass and other great minimalist artists). Don't get me started on people defending the song calling it experimental, yeah you can call it experimental but it's not done well.

yeah saying it's experimental dosent help it at all, nct is known for being quite experimental and they have multiple very enjoyable songs imo, people just have to accept that sometimes being experimental means you miss the mark, and miss it hard. it's okay to say it's not good or you don't like it.

“Sweet Thing” by The Shaggs, off that same album, makes me cry almost every time. Theres something about it, idk. Being in a fresh break-up mood makes it burrow extremely deeply into your head.

Lewis sounds like he sings contemporary Christian music

9:10 This is the worst song here. Not only is it horrible, made by horrible people, with a horrible fanbase, but it’s clear that these people put effort into their hurt directed toward a victim. There really is nothing else that can top this unless R. Kelly comes back and makes a 15 minute R&B rant making fun of all the victims of his crimes.
