The trouble with protecting yourself from scorpions by wearing shoes is that scorpions like to hide in shoes. Anyone who lives near scorpions knows to shake out their shoes before putting them on - there might be something in there that doesn't want to be squished by toes!
@robertsmith4681

A lot of people carry large ziploc bags and seal their shoes in them for that exact reason. Even if you shake them off there is no guarantee that it will come out and you may be stung on the hand if one does fall out of your shoe while trying to shake it out.

Rattle snakes do not normally atack you they warn youbefore you get close enouph to get bit, although if it is cool out they might not. but if they are cold they normaly do not strike unless you are on top of them. i have found one Mohave green that did not rattle at me but he was cold after a rainstorm on the San Pedro river near Toumbston and a Diomandback western type near Cochise stronghold Arizona. and for the scorpians in your house i usally put pickle jars in my snake boots so they can not get in the toes and sting me. and olive jars in my laceup boots and tihgten the laces. snd do not put anything against the walls. allways carry a gun 10mm or bigger with FMJ. or hardend bullets.

This happened to my younger daughter and her boyfriend. Except they were at a lake. The boat died. They were going for help. It was night. They said they kept seeing eyes all around. Luckily, they found a shed they could get on top of. They had to call 911. Sheriff got out there to them before I could and finished scaring the pack away.

I grew up in rattlesnake and black widow country. I was taught from the time I could walk to never stick my hand into a bush outside without looking first, or into a hole in the ground. We have cougar sightings around here, and now and then bear sightings. There are bobcats also...and coyotes are common in the suburbs. (Near Seattle WA).

Yup, we have bobcats, cougars, coyotes, black bears and deer around our neighborhood in Port Orchard. The cougars usually stay outside the neighborhood but have been seen in trails. Occasionally a bobcat has come in someone’s backyard and the bears have raided bird feeders, the coyotes usually stay outside the neighborhood too, but you can sometimes hear them at night, especially during mating season. I lived in the Tri Cities for awhile, we had rattlesnakes and black widows there.

The alligator story was altered. Happened about 3-4 years ago at a Disney hotel resort. I believe the family was from Ohio with a 3 year old boy and a baby girl the mother was holding. Boy was playing on water edge in a pond outside the resort. An alligator jumped out of water and grabbed the little boy. The father followed and wrestled the alligator but couldn't rescue the little boy. He was found drowned.

We have a shitload of Gators here in Texas as well. Me and a Buddy were fishing an ox bow lake off the Trinity River...an ox bow lake is from the old river channel course that ended up land locked when the river moved. You have to be real careful about hanging your stringer of fish off the side of the boat. We always attached the stringer to the boat with a line that would break if the gators decided they wanted your fish. All it takes is one incidence of a gator dragging your boat sideway and threatening to swamp you when he decides your fish are his fish. They can smell you coming from crazy distances!!!!

Gators in Texas. Yep, 40 odd years ago I was a cop for Crystal Beach, TX and we got a report of an alligator that came up from a body of water in this guy's back yard and ATE his beagle. Lots of kids playing around that water in the summer time, so we called the Game Wardens, who called in to Austin, got a "death warrant" for the alligator from a judge, and another Game Warden drove it down to the scene of the beagle buffet. I then got to watch as the Crystal Beach foundation savers err... I mean Volunteer Fire Department, tried to pump the water out of the "slew" with their pumper. They didn't realize that it was connected to the Gulf of Mexico. I went off duty and the Game Warden got lucky with some sort of bait, and shot Mr Gator. I live on Galveston island, just across the ship channel from all of this, and have had rattlesnakes, in my back yard, coyotes on my block, water moccasins within 200 yards of my house, alligators on my island ("it's MY island"), and cougars in the neighboring counties. If that weren't enough, we have sharks, stingrays, and eels in the water around us, and are likely to have hurricanes, waterspouts, and tornadoes. Heck the mascots for the local high school teams in the county are the Tornadoes (Galveston), the Cougars (LaMarque), Stingrays (Texas City, TX), and the Gators (Dickinson, TX). Come on down to the Island and enjoy an exciting day, full of action, adventure, and general weirdness.

We had 6 or 7 rattle snakes over the years. Mom carrying a potluck tray stepped over one, sunning it's self on the door mat. My dog chased a frog into the water meter box. When I looked, I found a 4 and half footer. We had bobcat, mountain lions, and coyotes on our property. We found an abandoned coyote pup. It took two days for wildlife rescue to come get him from us. He was a vicious little shit that wanted us dead. A girl from my junior high school had a mountain lion pull 11 rabbits through the front of the hutch about two miles from my house. So, if you live in southern California, you can tick off most of these deadly animals on the list.

I was a volunteer photographer for Myakka River State Park, Florida. It would take about 30 minutes or less to get to a hospital for anti-venom. Mostly I came a cross water moccasins. But one day a ranger took me out in the Prairie to get a picture of a Sunburst (sort of a Venus Fly Trap) but instead she let out a scream. I stopped immediately! Then she asked me if I needed to get a pygmy rattler for the park? Yes, I did. She pointed to where it was. I saw nothing. She pointed more until I could see it. It's a pretty snake but it was posed ready to strike. I took 4 shots. Only one was good because I was shaking out of fear. Later that year, they used it in a campground slide show so tourists could understand how well camouflaged snakes can be. Coyotes come into the city of Chicago all the time.

2:15 Black Widows are actually mostly harmless. The reason they have the reputation they do is because they're one of only two species of spider native to North America that can harm humans in any way. If bitten by a black widow though, the average person will just get flu symptoms for a few days, then it'll go away on its own. In fact, black widow fatalities are so rare that we only make a single batch of antivenom every year. It's not something to be worried about. It might ruin your week, but it almost certainly won't kill you.

"Attacked" by rattlesnakes is a bit pejorative. They do not go out of their way to bite humans. Most bites are from people messing with them (or accidentally stepping on them). They are painful and have a long recovery time, but they are not typically fatal. Also - scorpions love to be tucked into your shoes. Always shake them out before putting them on! We are avid hikers. Here is what you need to know about bears: "If it's brown, lie down; if it's black, fight back; if it's white, good night."

3:25 Yes! You're more right than you probably know. Crocodiles and alligators have been around since the time of the dinosaurs and have remained virtually unchanged for over 65 million years. They are literal dinosaurs. They survived the KT extinction. They existed before it and are still alive today. They eat everything, they have almost no natural weaknesses to anything. And if you live along the coast of the Gulf of Mexico they'll just casually wander into your back yard whenever they feel like it.

Adam, I lived in Colorado Springs, Colorado when I was in the Army, I was stationed at Ft. Carson.... anyway, I remember hearing on the news on TV that there were reports of Bears getting into the dumpsters at Taco Bell near the foothills of Pikes Peak.... the Mountain in Colorado Springs. Anyway, apparently the Bear liked Taco Bell food, because the same bear would make it's way to the dumpster, have to be tranquilized by the Forrest Rangers, then transported back over the mountain many miles away. They tagged him, so the always knew it was the same bear.... that was pretty funny! In a different news report, there was a guy who had to call in to work saying he couldn't make it in until the Wildlife Ranger arrived to tranquilize the the mountain lion on his front lawn! Could you imagine going out to your vehicle with a cup of coffee in your hand heading out to your truck and seeing a mountain lion looking at you like you are the one for breakfast?!! I remember another report where kids were not allowed to go out to the playground at recess because there were bear cubs playing on the playground.... where baby cubs are, mother is surely close by! There were reports of people looking out into their back yard and seeing a bear family going swimming in their pool..... you take your chances living among the beautiful scenery of the mountains, there were always reports of people finding their pets killed by wild life, or come up missing altogether! The people in the news did their best to warn new people moving into the area not to leave their pets outside, especially in the spring time when wild life are really hungry after hibernating during the winter months in the mountains! People really need to think before they move to places..... I just believe people have forgotten to think things through altogether!! Enjoyed the video.....

I just kept backing up slowly keeping eye contact & it darted off into the woods. Scary stuff! Also, A gentleman who lived down the block from me was killed unloading cattle from his trailer. Cows - Keep in mind that there are people whose entire job consists of managing thousands of cows at once. Like, they can hurt you but its pretty rare if you're careful. Deer - Deer are stupid. Great reactions, but incredibly smooth brained. Gators - Gators are chill. I maintain anyone who has ever gotten hurt by a gator was doing something stupid like walking up to it to poke it or not checking large bodies of water before approaching. According to reports Covert (the lady from the video) was literally walking up to it while people were telling her to get away. Kid gets a pass cause he was 2, I don't know if the parents were charged but they should have been for not paying attention. Snakes - All snakes, not just rattlers; watch where you step, keep your eyes and ears open, wear good jeans. They don't want to bite you because they know they can't eat you, its purely defensive. Mountain Lion - They don't go out of their way to attack humans but if you're in their territory the best you can do is back away for a couple hours until it decides you've gone far enough. Don't fight back, don't turn your back on it, don't run. Just steadily back away and keep yourself as big as you can. Alternatively, gun. Coyotes - Pronounce it "Kai-oat". The e is silent. They're one of the 'respect them and you'll be fine' class of animals; they're not just a dirty puppy, they're a wild animal and you have to remember to treat them as such. A coyote would have to be amazingly desperate (or sick but then you have a whole different problem) to go after a human unprovoked. Wolves - I... honestly don't have much advice for this because I don't live in wolf country. Standard wild animal advice I guess; avoid, stay strapped, stay near a car. Might be worth carrying a repellent if you're gonna be camping. Scorpion - Insect proof your house, wear shoes, socks, and jeans outside. Don't have that particular variety, but that's the good advice for preventing small creepy crawlies. Bears - You can usually scare off black bears; those given examples were incredibly atypical. Don't mess with grizzlies; if the gun or mace doesn't scare them off it just makes them angry at you. If you're not able to get to your car fast enough your best option with a grizzly is to literally lie down and let them hurt you for a while. Eventually they'll get bored and leave you alone. Don't run, you'll just die tired.

Okay I never thought our critters were freaky to foreigners 😂😂. I guess it’s like Australias critters are to me….terrifying! But Aussies laugh at me too 😅😅 We truly grow accustomed to the environments we are raised in & all the scary things that accompany it. I’m going solo camping for a week next month where it’s known to have bears, tarantulas, scorpions, rattlesnakes, mountain lions, & the occasional Bigfoot. Concern about them never crossed my mind, but my besties, Smith & Wesson, always accompany me for the truly scary animals….the humans. Women: NEVER EVER EVER go around a bull “cow” while you’re on your period!!!!!! That’s when they will absolutely chase you because they smell you. I’ve never had a cow chase me, but I have had a bull chase me & that was TERRIFYING. They run really really fast. Fun fact: in Western Oklahoma folks have snake pits in their backyards where they raise rattlesnakes. Then each year we have rattlesnake hunts in the desert & they release the snakes to be hunted. 😱 I tried eating some, I don’t recommend it. Lots of bones & super gristly. A single Coyote isn’t really scary, but you rarely see just one. They run in pacts & that’s when they get scary. I can fight off one, I can’t fight off an entire pack.

You never remove a dead newborn calf from a cow before it has had time to grieve the loss, and understand the calf is dead. That can take several hours. Unless there is intense predator pressure, just hang back and let her grieve. If it is high, have someone else come out to help distract her while you remove the dead baby. Cattle 101. Cougars are no joke. We had one come down from further up the mountain and started killing some of the sheep from one of the farms. We had to start carrying weapons to the bus stop to keep our kids safe until one of the farmers took him out. We saw him, too, but he was too far away for any of us to get off a shot, even with a scope. This happened more than once. When the bear came, I drove the kids to school along with as many neighbor kids as would safely fit in my van until it was caught. I would see coyotes at work by the dumpsters when I was in college. Usually after we locked up and were in our cars. We carried pepper spray just in case, but they were fat and sassy city coyotes and didn't want a fight, nothing like the lean, hungry rural coyotes who didn't eat regularly. Now those boys were dangerous. Those you'd want to be armed around. With scorpions, not only do you need to wear shoes, you need to check your shoes for scorpions before putting them on every single time. I know people that go out at night with a black light and do checks around their property walls so they can squish scorpions to keep the population down. They show up glowing under black lights so they are easy to find then. Keeps them and their pet animals safer.

Home from work at 2am, there's (what I think is) a yellow lab running around my front yard! How exciting, I get to play with a dog! I get out of the car and call it, start walking over as it runs to the 6' fence. It stands there, for a seconds then jumps from a standstill, to the top of the fence, then ONTO THE ROOF of the house next door. I got back in the car and sat there for the LONGEST time not daring to walk across the lawn to the house. It was a mountain lion.

I was actually chased by a cow once, I've been terrified of them ever since lol. I also know only a handful of people who HAVEN'T hit a deer at one point while driving.

I used to live at the edge of a small town in the plains of SE Colorado, when I was a kid (age 6-9). My mom used to send me into the back yard to check for rattlers before she'd let my little brother into the ysrd to play. I never saw one, but a big ol' rattler attacked Mom when she was carrying out the trash to the trash cans outside the back fence. Fortunately it lunged for the trashbag instead of my mom, so Mom dropped the bag on it. The old retired gentleman who lived next door saw the commotion, and ambled over with his hoe to kill the snake. (This was in the late 1960's.) Then there was the time, when we lived in another small plains town about 30 miles away, when my brother caught a scorpion in a small jar and brought it home to keep as a pet. He was heartbroken when my dad immediately threw it to the ground and stepped on it. I live in Denver now, the capital city of CO, and coyotes are a big problem in my area. They come into neighborhood areas and grab people's cats and small dogs. There are also rattlesnakes along the hiking/biking trails that run through much of the city, especially near the reservoir in the SE area. We also had a Summer or two, several decades back, where bears were coming down out of the foothills and wandering through suburban neighborhoods.

Deer also carry ticks that have deadly diseases. And alligators might as well be directly descended from dinosaurs, IMO. As for cougars, I resemble that remark!

Here is some more nightmare fuel for you. Rabid Moose. Last year, near Wales, Alaska, there was a rabid moose. After they did an autopsy, they found infected bite marks from presumably a fox or other small canine. If the thought of a 900lb angry, rabid moose does not scare you, it really ought to.

Well if you thought our politics, former federal administration and sh*tty healthcare system wasn’t scary enough here’s something else we Americans have to deal with. Some of us are some serious bada$$ mofos surviving over here 😉 America is not for the faint of heart.

Coyotes often hunt in packs. I lived in a mountain town in Arizona for a while. The coyotes would get somebody's little dog every once in a while.

Canadian here; I'm surprised they didn't have moose on the list. They can be even more dangerous than the bears, despite what some people think. I think most of us Canadians are more concerned about them than bears. And about coyotes; some years ago a young aspiring singer named Taylor Mitchell was walking in a forest in Cape Breton; she passed two people going the opposite direction; not even ten minutes later, they heard screaming, and ran back to find her being attacked by two pr three coyotes. Unfortunately she didn't make it.

This definitely one of those automated 😂videos out of asian video factories. You can always tell by automated narration and blatant mistakes. They weren’t smart enough to know the rattlesnake attack in Georgia was the US State of Georgia, not the former Soviet state in Asia. These videos should get a thumbs down. They flood KZbin with crap.

Ever been out in the woods when suddenly everything goes quiet and the hair stands up on the nape of your neck? And you suddenly KNOW a predator is watching you? I have. Upon turning around and heading back to my vehicle, i ran across a set of cougar prints in the light dusting of snow on the ground. It was shadowing me as I walked through the woods. I keep a loud air horn with me as well as my rifle. I don't mind admitting that I fired off one round in the air and used the horn periodically on my way back to my vehicle. I stopped at the closest ranger station to ask about cougar sightings and was told that there had been several in the past week. Yes, it was in Oregon

For your question about wolves having diseases, all mammals can carry rabies, wolves included. I don’t know how it is in Britain, but in America we’re taught to always get rabies shots any time we get bit by an animal, just in case.

I live in Alaska and have been actively stalked by a polar bear. I have had Grizzly bears on my front porch when you go to leave the house. And people wonder why we love our guns and refuse to give them up.

That gator was certainly handled by the most dangerous animal: Florida Man.... What the guy leaves off about rattlers is that there are several species of rattler. You're very unlikely to die as long get anti venom and them being native, the anti venom isn't hard to get, only issue is knowing the species. Living in Dallas TX I have yet to see a rattler or venomous snake, for most part you are unlikely to run into venomous snakes in a major city. Alone coyote isn't so much dangerous, but Coyote's travel in packs up to 20... Mountain lions are ambush hunters, if you spot one you need to face it and act big and yell to deter it, never turn your back on a mountain lion, they also make a scream that can sound almost human.
