What really sells this routine is the energy that Eric put into 'Baloo's' dance language. Eric was just incredible in being able to put comedy into dance. As with 'Singing In The Rain' and his comical feathering. No other mover like him.

Just seen three programmes on BBC2 tonight about Eric and Ernie. Just ideal to include what has been a perfect Christmas Day. And some of their Thames work was unbelievable. For quite a period at ITV during this period, they were without Johnny Ammonds and Eddie Braben, though they all reunited eventually. I actually cried watching them tonight because it dawned on me that we will never see anyone ever again as good as them. Thanks to Eric and Ernie and all who made their shows possible.

Gary, I presume you are Eric's son, who I managed to contact pre youtube days. 1978, I was 11 years old when I was chosen to be Mowgli. Families like mine didn't have a Video Recorder back then. About 1991 you got me a VHS so I could watch it for the first time since the original broadcast. In 78 I was also included in the sting adverts. The experience remains one of my main life highlights of which i am quite proud. If of interest, I have a few original studio photo stills taken during filming.

Now this sketch was done during one of their two 1978 specials for Thames which was the first year they worked for them, and those two specials were very good and on a par with the BBC shows. It seems after Eric's heart attack and surgery in 1979, the duo's output started to fail The returned to full series in 1980 and from that point on the re-hashing of BBC material was so evident with nearly 50-60% of a 30 minute show being re-used material from their BBC days. This was done to the fact that Eddie Braben didn't arrive at Thames until 1980 and took a while to settle in and write again for them, but the spark was gone by 1980 and these nuggets of comedy where a rarity in the Thames era.
@TheLucavialli8 жыл бұрын
Totally agree John they did have their moments at Thames but the BBC years from 68 - 77 were comedy at its finest from two legends at the top of their game. The greatest British double act of all time and will never ever be equalled
