It's shocking to me how little credit people give Hikaru. Magnus and Hikaru both play garbage openings to get fresh positions. They are both absolutely doing their best to win a game of chess. But they save their more serious preparation for bigger events. This is just for fun. No need for serious openings in blitz.

Usually mouse slips at this level happens in endgame in time scramble. I think he threw the game. First he says "I might get smoked here" "I'm not taking this so seriously, I just don't care" and then after the mouse slip "so sad" "could have been very exciting". He's acting like he already lost against Magnus before the game started.

Hikaru acts like he does not care to mask his insecurities and help his own mental state of mind to not worry too much when he loses a game. He may have done the "mouse slip" intentionally because he is scared of MAGNUS and therefore creating an excuse to justify a loss.
