This song is so special to me. After having had my heart broken so many times by the time I was 50, I had given up. I wasn't sure I wanted to live, let alone love again. I just didn't have the heart to keep going. Then I met a woman with the most beautiful soul who reached down and showed me what love really was. We've been together over 20 yrs now. It's like the old saying "It's always darkest just before the dawn". Pax Vobiscum.

Seeing the reaction from someone who has never heard songs like this is great. I think those of us who grew up with the 70s and 80s music are kind of jaded because we've heard these songs our whole life and kind of take them for granted. My era,the 70s and 80s, had some of the best groups and singers of all time.

You got that right! I'm a huge Foreigner fan but I also loved Boston, Kansas, Bad Co., Loverboy, BTO and so many other great bands from that era. Foreigner's self-titled debut album is my favorite release from any artist but Boston's debut album is nipping at its heels. We were blessed to have grown up with so much great music. Long Live Foreigner!

Love love love this! Just one of a thousand (or more) reasons why music from the 70s and 80s kicks butt on newer stuff. No comparison.

Most popular music now is a science, they know what the beats per minute should be, when to change tempo so people aren't bored, what vocal range keeps people interested, lyrics that are popular....blah blah blah. You have to search hard for the real authentic art.
@xx-ug9hn
@xx-ug9hn 3 жыл бұрын
@@chriswhamilton this is babble
@chriswhamilton
@chriswhamilton 3 жыл бұрын
@@xx-ug9hn there is literally a scientific study on the science of pop music and the formula is used by factories to spew out the same crap again and again. Keep it simple, but not too simple: If your song is too easy to assimilate, the listener will get bored and switch off. Stick a tricky bit in there to keep their attention, then reward them with a catchy chorus. Use backing vocalists: Researchers at the University of Southern California analysed thousands of hit records over the past 55 years and found that background vocals increase a song’s chances of hitting the top of the charts. Repeat, repeat: The USC researchers also found that the more you repeat the chorus, or repeat the same words within the song, the better its chances of becoming a hit. Genres don’t matter: Music has fragmented into so many genres and sub-genres, it’s nigh-on impossible to keep up. But researchers at KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Sweden found that no matter what tribe they belong to - goth, metal, dubstep, whatever - people listen to music in much the same way. Researchers identified nine “perceptual” features that most music fans have in common, no matter how “out there” their taste is: speed, rhythmic clarity, rhythmic complexity, articulation, dynamics, modality, overall pitch, harmonic complexity and brightness. Play it again and again, Sam: In the age of the viral hit, it’s all about getting your song played as often as possible on as many platforms as possible.

I heard someone once say thier interpretation of the song. They said it was about a person who was selfish, and wanted someone to give them love without them giving it back. My interpretation is it's about someone who's been hurt so bad they don't believe in love or it's goodness. They're asking someone they know who is good and kind to help them find love again. To show them that real love is still there, that there are still good people who won't use love then throw it away. And in turn they see a hurting world, and with this newfound faith in love, proceed to help others.

It's about being weary of giving into love after being burned before, and about trusting again asking to be shown what true love is. Giving in to what's an inevitable possibility presented to you.
@asc_missions3080
@asc_missions3080 3 жыл бұрын
@@chriscook5613 The lyrics say most of that, but not all. It's about taking time, thinking things over - taking a time out. Yet that does not deny what I've already said about the drive to meld with other being universal and thus religious. Maybe that is what needs to be known. Pursuing love on that basis sets the quest apart from merely fulfilling physical and other transient desires.

Thank you , I was a young man when I heard this, I'm 53 and seen a lot of good and bad in this world the words hit you hard, and the look on your face is what matters a warm soul ,if only people just listened to music what a beautiful world we would be in.
