The man is not his dad, but the promoter at the club where he was performing. It's a scene from the movie called "Purple Rain" which is somewhat autobiographical. Definitely worth watching the movie - the entire soundtrack is phenomenal.

If I could like this comment a thousand times, I would. The song is amazing. Reminds of Still Loving You by the Scorpions. Not lyrically or musically but in the sense that, for the type of songs they are, they are the pinnacle. To fully appreciate the video, you need to watch the entire Purple Rain movie. Every song is superb.

It brings the singer in the room next to you. The sound is rich and pure. I love Prince's music he was a genius. He was a tortured man, his faith was strong, and he worried about his salvation his entire life. You gave us a gift with this pure, and emotional reaction. This is the music of my youth. I can not tell you or express how much I loved Prince. His music is so good. There is not another musician like him. His music is extremely diverse and he always brings passion to his music. I was probably 13 when I first discovered Prince back in the early 80s. While I adore songs like Purple Rain I was often a much bigger fan of the songs that didn’t get released to radio. Sometime just do yourself a favor and sit down and play his albums from his first album through. You can hear hints of each new album in each album. It’s like a perfect time capsule. You can see him form and change from a young man into a spiritual human. We lost a beautiful soul when he passed away. People like to talk down because he died of an overdose but the reality is he was in pain from years of abusing his body for us and his art. I saw you compared him to MJ, please don’t get me wrong MJ is GREAT, but Prince to me is just next level. I know others may disagree. Prince was a musician first, entertainer with an exceptional voice. I think the comparison comes from just the era and not necessarily that their music was that much alike. Hope you continue down the journey of Prince you will fall in love, be in shock, general awe and admiration while enjoying a huge catalog of interesting funky music

This is a masterclass in building something from nothing - the actual song isn't much... - on pure vibe, attitude, energy, personality, soul. You can see how he did it in "Purple Rain 1983, Prince and The Revolution - The recording of". It was the first performance of guitarist Wendy. It was the first time the band played the song and most of it is improvised over simple repeated chord changes. Prince is testing out guitar sounds in the drawn out intro. There is a second verse that falls flat and was edited out of the album version. But at some point it all comes together and it's supernatural, magic.

Prince what he does and could do is no different only the ICONS of MUSIC could do.. is get you in a hypnotic trance state with his Artistry and Musicality.. very few could pull it off.. Jim Morrison of the DOORS.. comes to mind, Jimmy Hendrix is another.. MJ of course and Freddie Mercury, maybe Bowie and Led Zeppelin with Plant.. but few could give you just a ''talk to''.. on stage while supposedly singing and give you so much RAW POWER... from his stage presence as it carries the tune and song all the way to go the distance...
