This is exactly how I learned to program stuff. If there's any loophole anywhere, I have to make sure things will still work as planned. Sometimes I go above and beyond, finding even the smallest little detail that could be a potential loophole, and program a whole section of code to deal with it.

It's my favorite part of programming. Making checks for things that shouldn't be possible just in case they are. It's crazy how many games don't make checks. If this item is supposed to only be used within this area and it's used elsewhere force delete it and send a bug message with information. If this item that is supposed to be overpowered but only in this small boss area can somehow be smuggled out a simple check that if it's worn or used or proc'd anywhere else. Just delete it.

@@nickmeyer238 I've seen similar occurrences in Pokemon games, weirdly enough. Most of the old games check for your badges before allowing you into the Elite Four, so even if you use an exploit, you can't beat the game that way. However, I believe it was proven the Sinnoh region just assumes you already have all the badges when you get to that point. Someone walked through the walls and stuff to get there with zero badges and it let them in. It's tiny little details like those that I love to correct, even of very few people will encounter it.

@@ravenwashere1776 Yeah. Literally takes no effort to check if they have all 8 badges before giving the elite 4 dialogue "you aren't supposed to be here" and teleporting you out. It's that little effort that counts.

@@ravenwashere1776 I think if the game is robust enough for you to have to hack the game to encounter this, it's good enough. The time schedule for commercial games is tight enough as it is, putting in a check that no one is going to see in normal gameplay isn't worth the time it would take. What if, for whatever reason, this code breaks and you now have to debug a piece of code that isn't actually doing anything, most of the time. Yeah not worth it. Could be a place for a nice little Easteregg, maybe if it's an indie title or something. It isn't like this is some public c++ library that has to have checks in every single method for the idiot user to not mess things up.

Haven't tested this, but I'm pretty sure it should proceed as normal, as unlike the situation in the Short, the Go-Goggles is not a mandatory item, as its only use is to traverse the desert and nothing else, and the things the Rival says is not really that important, as you should know where to go next.

Your rival stands out there near the desert to give you the go go goggles in case you ever want them in the future. Speed runners use this technique to white out from flannerys gym back to petal burg for the next gym. She doesn’t stand somewhere essential though so if you never go back to the desert then you can beat the game without ever getting them (which is what speed runners do)

wow, that was not THAT confusing, there is a dialogue with may that has to happen, but you can kinda skip the talk with her on rustboro, so the game just spawns her somewhere else where you need to go to progress in the game

1)Heal in petalburg 2) DO NOT heal in rustburo 3) defeat 1st gym, defeat the aqua grunt, and get the Deven goods. (All without healing in rustboro 4) make your pokemon all faint. 5) go to the cottage. Your rival will show up because they were supposed to give you something in rustboro but you got past them in an unintended way.

If I remember right, you can't teleport from inside buildings, so you'd need to get a party member poisoned and have it be the last survivor after Flannery. I'm also curious about how the game would handle that, never thought about it.

I’m pretty sure it remains the same if you finish all of the team aqua stuff, but before beating the first gym. Once you finish that and go back down to past petal burg woods your rival will be waiting for you.
