TEMPO TIMING METHOD - HELP WITH TEMPO IN PGA 2K21 - Tutorials / Tips / Tricks Episode 5

Maybe this method will help you maybe it won't. It helped me get on track with my tempo so hopefully it will help you in the end

I think this is great advice. Having a method or routine to aid timing is very helpful. I used to use the sound of the stick at top and bottom for my timing. Now with mouse & no meter I rely more on visual position of my ani like you mentioned in the 2nd half of the vid. I almost always use practice swings, especially on partials and lots of backswing resets if it doesn't feel perfect. If having trouble it might be a good idea to try playing with a metronome. I haven't tried yet but am sure it would help a lot to get a tempo locked in your head. One thing I was trying to add when last I played (before last avengers update, PoE heist league & huge NMS update) was a "second" timing for some shots. Like you said, overswing shrinks forgiveness and maximizes errors. You can also wait through the overswing and your power will drop back down from 105 to 95. Once it drops back down below 101% the bars go back to normal size. Try to time like a 98% and if I'm late, it's a slight underswing this way (never less than 96 or 95) but more forgiving than a 101-105 would be. I prefer and shoot better the regular way, but I sometimes use this delayed swing if I really can't afford for my shot to miss by much or using unforgiving shot types. Can also use a full delay to get 95-96% shots reliably for inbetweens, tho it's takes more focus to still time the downswing after stalling that long.

Great vid. Used the count timing today on master clubs and it worked really good even with the long driver. About 95% of my shots were within the top grey area which didn't even happen on pro settings. Thanks so much for all your great vids

I tried a 1,2 and it helped a little. I find that distance doesn’t change much even if I swing 90%. The fast swings really overdo the distance increase. I still get very slows that seem to come out of nowhere, even when my tempo feels similar to better tempo swings. Obviously some players have figured something out, but I still find too much randomness in tempo result.

Oh I have been WAITING for a video like this (hope it's still relevant in 2k23). I managed to get some timing-related fittings but even with the Timing archetype I'm just wildly all over the place. I'm hoping this will help because swing timing is the worst thing for me, I'm always wondering, "FAST OR SLOW WHAT?" like am I moving it back too slow, or forward too slow or does the forward speed depend on the back speed, like I really don't understand what I'm doing too slow. I feel as though the 2k series, as opposed to EA Sports, is really unforgiving with even the slightest timing difference. Even slightly slow will send the ball careening off to the right, and there's no way to adjust it in difficulty settings it's either on or off.

Give it some time if you start. It takes a little time to get the rhythm down. If it doesn't work out for ya don't force it.

Yeah, the tempos a biatch until it clicks. And the calibration doesn't feel like it does a lot. Felt kinda random when I first started playin but after weeks of playin it feels a lot less random and there's definitely a downswing speed that ya feel when you've got it. I've found that what helped me is if I have the power bar on, start the downswing as the indicator thing hits the grey bit and finish it just as it's hitting the red bit. Works for me on pro anyway. Prob works best for irons as the grey parts a bit shorter for the drivers. Then once ya get it ya can do it when it's off. Anyway, I hope that helps someone :-)

The counting technique really helped me out. Getting perfect 95% of the time on pro am difficulty with driver and woods, still struggling a little with my irons. Granted I've only been playing a couple days, with my last pga game being years ago.

I'm glad it helped! The more you play the better you will get. The skill ceiling is kind of high for this game but when you get it all paired together it is one of the most rewarding sports games.

Can you figure out why my tempo meter and lie isn’t showing on my pga tour career???? And it’s not on high difficulty. It was showing during the tutorial when I first bought the game then I went straight to pga tour and it’s now gone lol. All settings are on beginner....cheers

I can’t seem to find this anywhere but here’s my question: Does it base swing timing on how fast I pull the stick back from my backswing then I need to match that speed on my downswing or does backswing speed not matter at all and the game has a set target speed it wants you to push the stick forward at?

It is all based on your downswing. The speed you pull it back doesn't change the swing timing.

I use a combination of the longest clubs from wedges to the driver and hit perfect or touching the white near perfect about 90% of the time. I use a similar 2 prong method. 1) I say temmm - pooo as I swing. The temmm is the backswing, the poo is the downswing. This is a real golf tempo drill that I first saw Nick Faldo suggest. Your mechanics and voice will adjust naturally to perfect with some practice. 2) I use a visual que for 100% in backswing the hands somewhere around the shoulder, can't explain exactly without looking at my swing, but you can find it if you take swings on the range. Keeping the power in the white for is key, cause at 101 to 102 if it is red, the tempo cone shrinks about 25%. On PS4 the majority of the low scoring folks are just playing a very fast and aiming to the far right, especially for drives. Even played with a few low scoring folks that on drives swing so fast the golfer loses one had off the club because the tempo is so bad but they get 100% hit fairways with the 295 drivers with very little effort.

Yeah, same concept I taught myself in real life with the tempo of my swing that actually works pretty well in this game which is awesome. Yeah I currently use that fast method for drives as it is just more consistent off the tee. Its not even that I can't hit perfects off the tee, I can, but those occasional slows that I get really eat away at the soul. I know some are using the fast method for every shot and that isn't something I can do. I want the perfect tempo on the approach so I play for that and deal with the slows as they come.

Here’s a fairly obvious tip I guess. I know it sounds crazy but facing directly towards your computer/PS4/XBOX screen makes a big difference - for me anyway. Maybe its the way your inner eye computes? Sometimes I find myself facing slightly straight ahead - especially when I am trying to draw or fade the ball.

Golf is already difficult enough, they should revise the system for swinging. If I turn my character all the way to the left so about 45 degrees and I swing with the mouse just in the opposite direction, so to the right about the same 45 degrees I will get a perfect swing each time but I need to aim a bit. So I'm saying if that works and I can't get to swing the club in a straight line something needs to change. IMHO.

Timing doesnt matter IMO, it's just how fast your downswing is, that's all the game is looking at. Impossible to be consistent. The game has already defeated me in my mind. I don't wanna practice video golf just to be able to play online. This game is gonna suffer from being too difficult, not very inclusive when online play is pro difficulty only.

Don't pull the stick all the way back changed everything for me. I didn't even know that was possible. Try to pull the stick half way back 👍 Gamechanger for me

Use forgiving clubs but, there is a caveat to this. I use the most powerful Bridgestone clubs .. the reasoning is: Further distance from all hazards to reach the green saving strokes and you use a higher iron for better forgiveness. If you hit an 8 iron from the fairway or have to hit a 6 iron from another set, the 8 iron will be more forgiving, even than a forgiving set of irons. Same thing from a hazard. Where HBC/2K went better is in making the game harder----Where they went worse was not having a linear shot tempo. It's either perfect, slightly fast, fast or very fast and vice versa in the slow area. They should have programmed in many many many more degrees of off center and off tempo strikes. The Pro setting us much harder than the previous iterations of The Golf Club on Master difficultly. That would be the only fix. (Maybe an option for a lie in a bunker and better hole overview distances..especially when you play with almost everything off, as I do.) Master difficulty is a joke. Also for a fast or a slow, the penalty, even on Pro us extremely harsh. I do agree -2 or Even or slightly above par is better than -28 you saw from every cheat moron online or offline. Force stuff off in tournaments and let humans learn the game and swing with things on.

I hope it does, I really try to help any way I can. At the end of the day though with this game, it really comes down to just a crazy amount of practice. BUT, when it all comes together, it feels very rewarding.
