I understand and at the end of the day it’s your stream your rules. I respect that but Teo if you expect the worst out of every last one of these appeals, that’s all your gonna see. I get it you’ve probably seen some really dumb, hateful or even ignorant comments and I won’t defend those but I will say that a lot of these kids or followers that I’m seeing have a class clown type mentality. Either way it’s entertaining and I hope you doing well. God Bless

I can understand people being upset that folks who have displayed reprehensible behavior are being forgiven on just their word but at the end of the day, two factors are at play here: 1) Being unbanned (either twitch or discord) only achieves one thing, they can view and send messages. They can't do anything more powerful than that and as Teo said multiple times, they revert to any messages that even approach the grey area, they are re-banned, and based on his tone (don't know if this is true), a second ban is permanent. 2) People must be allowed to grow from mistakes. Labeling and demonizing people for an incident, not a habit, is just damaging and not a good practice for life. Like Teo mentioned as well, if they are thorough and detailed with what they said (like #41), they deserve to stay banned because that kind of behavior isn't a one off, or "a mistake", but rather a rooted belief or a lack of empathy for those who it does affect and either way, has no place when you are trying to build a community. At the end of the day, this is not a court of law but rather a social court and in this particular social court, Teo is the judge. He has every right and power to choose those in his community in such a way that shapes their interactions and discussions to be conducive to him maintaining his profession. He does not have to forgive those who misbehaved in the past but he does because he values what that forgiveness and empathy adds to the community more than building walls and kicking out young members who are prone to dumb mistakes.

Imagine how embarrassing it is for the people featured in these ban appeals (that by itself is valid statement but there's more), who Teo states "this is clearly a very young viewer" and they're not. Biggest slap in the face for some of these people to grow up. I mean one would assume they actually are kids, but at the same time, I would not believe that ALL of them are, we've seen plenty of clips of adults being extremely immature.

@souleevands59643 жыл бұрын
@@mrbonjangle It kind of is, they're giving their reasons for their decisions and following up with Teo's reasoning. They're helping to add to the final decision, for example Katie pointed out the guy's hypocritical statement about his little brother being on his phone which lead to Teo deciding that the story was a guaranteed lie. There were also oppositions to the statements like Sammy wanting to believe in the initial summaries for some of the cases which makes the case to be one for careful consideration that requires an audience with reasonable knowledge, which is what a jury does.

@@notsogreatplays2404 well humor and racism is subjective from one person to another; not defending it, simply saying what we perceive as offensive could be everyday for them. It's not so black and white.
@quanganhvu67913 жыл бұрын
@@conorsmyth-young2510 well while that is theoretically true, to bring that notion to its logical conculsion is to say that there is no limit to how offensive it can get and nothing is objectively offensive. And therefore, it shouldn't be banned or shut down because it will always be subjective. It is not black and white, but it is so in the sense that it's a problem in our society that we have to solve: to ensure that speech isn't shut down unreasonably, but also to prevent people from using the bullshit argument of "it's just a joke bro" for legitimately vile things. Personally, I'm a big fan of likes of Bill Burr and Dave Chappelle whose comedy some may consider to be offensive because I know these jokes come not from a place of hate but from the profound understanding of the state of our society's issues and jokes are a form of communicating those issues to us. So it is a different story when some teenager or someone who doesnt understand history or context goes around vomiting stuff that they have no clue about. Also, as a North Vietnamese, I could theoretically go around left and right making fun of US service members ptsd and how they lost to a bunch of farmers and say it's just a joke bro. But even I understand that this shit was traumatic as fuck and that lots of US soldiers who fought those like my grandad were younger than I am right now (22) so I never make jokes about such things. Fundamentally, be it as it may that some jokes and humour is subjective, if I or anyone finds humour in stories of pure human suffering, I'm inclined to believe that it is less something subjective but more like something objectively messed up.
@conorsmyth-young25103 жыл бұрын
@@quanganhvu6791 Exactly overall I think we agree on the general consensus that although humor being subjective, objectively there are things one should not say at all even if it's a "joke". Hot take: It's ridiculous how many people can have their entire mood or day ruined by a single word, like I'm sorry but if a single word can ruin your entire day or make you irrationally angry then who's really the one who should grow up, the only reason that word has so much power is because people give it that much control over them

The word doesn't ruin a day or make someone irrationally angry, it is an insult. If you told someone that they are worthless it doesn't make you irrationally angry because it is completely rational to get angry, and like a normal person you go on being angry about it for a bit, and then life moves on, but even so, you shouldn't have been insulted in the first place. Makes sense?
@ethancollins7043 жыл бұрын
@@heeanoren6365 it's not an insult it's literally just a word the fact that it's interpreted as an insult is the problem. We don't treat any other bad word like this one, there are no other racial slurs that have the same weight, it's at the top of the bad word list and it's solely because of the reaction it gets when someone says it. It wouldn't be up there otherwise

@@ethancollins704 all words are just words, their definitions and value are determined by culture. You can believe that a slur isn't offensive but it's the same thing as being annoyed that people use literally in a figurative way
@ethancollins7043 жыл бұрын
@@ono446 okay I never said it wasn't offensive what I am saying is it's childish to have a word dictate your mood when you know the only reason it can is because you let it. The culture has nothing to do with how you respond to a word that's entirely on you
@ono4463 жыл бұрын
@@ethancollins704 i think you need to do research into linguistics, language is cultural and how we express and react to it is cultural as well. You can have the opinion that nothing matters and everyone should just not be influenced by their environment but that's not how the world or humans work.

He really was spot on on the fact that teens are very edgy and say stupid things. I often lay awake at night and remember some stupid thing I did and I think “god why did I say that” it is very true.
