Regarding case 129, I have Asperger's, as do some of my friends. Not a single one of us acts like that. It's essentially high functioning autism. While people with it might be very emotional, it's not an excuse to do anything. We're pretty much just regular people who get really emotional at times and are a bit socially awkward.

mm I wouldn't say we're just "regular people". Having aspergers/autism brings many challenges and affects life in every aspect wether it be negative or positive. With that said using your diagnosis as an excuse for poor behaviour is never okay and it made me quite upset seeing that guy use it in that context since it might contribute to the negative stereotypes of having an "invincible" disability.

​@@FD-wl7xq They said the English skills weren't the issue. It was the fact that it was a very short essay without any proper effort put into it. Also, they could've easily written it in their own language and translated with Google translate, a lot of the time, it actually gets it right. No one expects an Oxford university 100 page essay. But the first "essay" was just a paragraph fit into 1 sentence. Not a single period was used. Also, if you don't even understand English to begin with, why watch an English speaking youtuber/streamer? At that point there's no reason cause you don't understand anything going on anyway. I think the kid knows plenty, just not perfectly. But, that's not an excuse to write a half-assed paragraph and call it an essay.

To answer the question you had in the ban appeal stream at the end (watched on twitch but was on playstation so couldn't type out a long answer/dono). As a black person (African to be specific) i agree with your stance. There's never necessarily a one size fits all solution to anything whether it's racism, sexism, homophobia and all sorts of stuff. Context will always matter. Like Lukas mentioned, you can tell context between someone being stupid and someone being malicious. The only thing i ever disagree with is giving people a pass on being "edgy" coz it's not a default setting to be racist/sexist/homophobic etc all those behaviors are learned. Like I'm sure when we were all kids or even now as adults we get angry and say things we don't mean but the average person doesn't default to that extra level, it usually stops at the f you or curse you or what not 😂, doesn't need to jump to extremes. But the big thing again, being that people change. And from my own experiences it can be rough and tough to forgive but it's always something I've noticed over the years growing up like getting called the n word in COD lobbies or as recent as Rainbow Six lobbies and all dat you come across these folks online and I can't even begin to imagine the gaming world experience for girls/women who can't even just have a chill Convo on mic without some random people going extreme with their comments so it's always good to see you fostering a good community and even though I'm not that active in discord and stuff outside of game recommendations I'll always give you your flowers for how well you've done with inclusivity in your community. I'm sure everyone with different backgrounds, genders, religions etc in the community appreciate it as well. 🙏🏿👊🏿❤️

I am so curious about case 92. Has he done his time now? Learned? Really wanna know. I understand both sides with most bans. with case #131 41:46 its a very common discord bot hack, so the way it works is that if you click one of those discord links your discord token number gets stolen and then people can post with that so the spam the same link or a diferent one, the thing with this hack is that it can also happend to someone even if you didn't click any of those links if you use your discord in a website if that website gets hacked they also get your token number which is kinda like your twitch key so they can reuse it so it doesn't matter if you change your password, luckly the ones doing that are bots they rarely reuse any tokens.

On case 135 I think Katie underestimates how easily it is to remember a situation but not remember exactly what happened. I was an edgy teen at one point and said so many slurs yet I can't remember most of them. In 2018 around there and even before that the R slur was very common. In my school, Xbox one. Halo 5 and Rainbow six siege. I heard it everywhere, now it's like taboo to dare say that so gotta keep in mind how it was back then. The amount of times I got called the R word on Xbox, and especially in school between mates. People really gotta take into account how little that word meant to some people like 4-10 years ago. Now it's more common to judge those people, which is fair. I personally call myself the R word when I'm upset at myself but I don't use it against other.

About the whole cigarettes thing, as a gay person personally if someone used the f-slur to talk about cigarettes in like a public, non-UK centric discord that alone wouldn't make me think they were homophobic. Like I get that's just a cultural thing that happens to overlap with the slur and that word meant something else anyway before being known as a slur to gay people and with that original meaning, I get how it would turn into slang for a cigarette. Dude streamsnipes God knows how many times while trolling you in chat as he does it and when he's banned, he sends a bunch of appeals in such quick succession. And on top of that, he's apologizing for streamsnipes while he continues to streamsnipe you, just on other games. He's so desperate for an unban and continues to do the thing he got banned for. Imo, he's gone for a while longer or just straight up gone for good cuz he has no composure at the moment and just isn't worth the headache. They need to mature a lot.

In regards to the use of the word "retard" in case #135, I am native Australian and can confirm that the word is colloquial and isnt connected to a specific group of people but rather the act of doing something stupid or idiotic. We have a number of people coming from overseas who are taken aback by our use of the word but don't realise in Australia it carries a different meaning and intent.

I'm kind of disappointed in how they ruled on #132. I feel like this was just like all the other appeals where some kid thought saying the n-word was funny, because they don't have an adult understanding of the history of racism that someone needs to truly *get* just how bad the n-word is. It feels weird to not give this one a pass, when you've already treated several other appeals leniently because they were likely young kids looking to be edgy, and not dyed-in-the-wool racists (a decision i absolutely agree with). I feel like at the very least, it would've been nice to give a request to submit another appeal with a better explanation of how they understand why what they said was wrong, especially given the *very* large gap between the offense and when it was appealed. All of that said though, I understand and respect the decision, and I love these videos. I feel like they're not only entertaining, but informative as to what kind of behavior is and isn't acceptable, and can help young people who may be too impulsive and immature to understand why some of the stuff they might do is wrong. Shout-out to the mods who have to deal with the immense tiring workload that is moderating chatrooms and discord channels, you're all a bunch of saints. Keep it up!

To see if he commented on theirs and if his comments are instantaneous with the video. did the person who donated leave a message? The content of that message could very well determine whether or not he was talking about the Dono or hot wheels like he stated. I think you need to take that into consideration. If the dono said something like “nice stream Katie. I’m here to support you :)” or somethin sweet? Then, yeah, I think it can be seen as him being negative. But Why would he all of a sudden join your stream, unprompted when he doesn’t comment on yours at all and instead goes to Teo for content? It just doesn’t make sense for him to join Katie randomly. He must’ve saw that she was playing hot wheels via her title or the thumbnail and clicked and than commented. Even if he was indeed clowning on the person who says it, The fact that he comments on Teo more often has to mean it possibly derives from Teos community and how the culture functions right? I remember teo playing a game on steam and someone being like “this game is so scoffed.” And they donated the exact amount the game costed, the chat also backed it up, joining in on the joke. And you were personally fine with it, you defended it sure, but you defended it in the way you would if it was your friends that responded: light hearted justification. I think that’s the problem. Since part of your friend groups bit is sarcasm and playful teasing. A chatter can look at that and say: “hey, it seems like making a joke like this is fine, after all, they understand it’s a joke.” Without realizing that the joke sounds different from an outsider because you wouldn’t know their intention behind the comment. The question then becomes: how strict do I want to be? Would I have interpreted it the same way if the person who said it was inside of my friend group? You have to gander where your barriers are when it comes to joking with chat and the way you joke with friends. For me personally I would unban him in my stream, since his chat were pretty normal. But I’d allow Katie to ban him ban if she wants to. cause if she interprets it as rude that’s her decision as well as her community. Now if the dude came in later and said “I cant believe Katie didn’t unban me” or complained about Katie’s decision in anyway. I’d say, “you know what dude? I gave you a chance to not do it again and be more respectful. The fact that you chose to complain about her decision, doesn’t sit right with me.” Then I’d ban him in mine too. Idk lol I went on a tangent.

Unpopular opinion? I'm a black guy and some just saying the N word doesn't upset me. Like Idk if I would call someone who comes in to a stream and just says the word a racist. Defiantly a toxic individual and I agree ban them, but I don't think it makes them racist and I don't think it should be a perma ban. Now to call someone the N word directly is and always should be a Perma ban.

Here’s the thing though, a mod can’t just gander whether or not he likes the person or whether or not the mod was personally offended by it, the mod has to take into consideration their community and how they would feel. I personally feel like using the N word in a non derogatory way, is fine, people have to understand that yes, the meaning has so much history behind it, even though not everyone white, they could be around a community who says it normally, so they’re used to having it in their vocabulary just as any normal swear word. Not everyone takes this into consideration and even if they do, not everyone will think it’s justified. There are more chances of sparking controversy if they decided to keep him unbanned rather then if they do keep him banned. Maybe I wouldn’t have banned him, but most likely either mute him or time him out from chatting if I was the mod but that’s my take on it
