I would have loved this game to provide some sort of buff to the initiating piece, so that at least a degree of the strategy of chess could be sustained. Apart from that looks very fun!

56:20 That's a move in chess called _au passant_ when you can take an opponents pawn , if its next to you and it just moved from it's starting position. Say pawn goes from B2 to B4, and you have a pawn at C4, you can move to B3 and take the pawn. Gotham Chess came in clutch for this explanation. Ya'll should play more of this as well, really enjoyable, for the viewers at least. Edit: paused to type this and didn't notice you were going to explain it.

In an actual chess board, yes, the king is forced to move and you end up winning a bishop, it would not be a win though, because checkmate comes from forcing the king into being captured without any moves to prevent it, you can't normally just capture it
