Great video. I have watched other folks build a feeder out of the same material, but I like your the best.

I’ll be honest. I hit subscribe after your wife brought you a coffee. I’m a truck driver with a hobby farm and a lovely young family at home and if there is anything that would make me quit driving it would be the chance to be at home with my family and enjoy working together. Love it. I have access to IBC totes, but they had flower bed mulch dye inside of them and are very messy. I need to find out where to source the clean ones.

Thanks for the video. I’m going to try and make this. You have a great family.

Thank you for making this. I came across it as I was just yesterday looking for a way to keep my hay in more order and not have as much waste. I found a local place that sells those totes for $40 each. Weekend project! I’ll credit your video in my build video. 😉

Great video. I need to make two of these. Do you think that would be safe for horses? Also, how well does it hold up to a really windy day?
@morethanfarmers2 жыл бұрын
Thanks! Yeah, I think it would be fine.. Should be as safe as any other feeder. I’ve never had one blow over.. if the lid isn’t secured down it can blow open. I used a bungee strap to hold it closed.. it made me a little nervous though in case the cow would ever get it unhooked and it would snap back at her. Some other kind of latch idea might be better.

My chickens will bury their eggs at times as well, just throw those eggs in a bucket of water. If they sink they dont stink, if they float that's a nope.(sink is good, float is a bad egg.)

That trick is not always accurate. My mom has had mixed success with it. HOWEVER, I've found pretty good success with shaking them. If you shake it somewhat rapidly and feel it kinda rattling in there, 9 times out of 10 that egg is either close to spoiling (not good flavor) or is rotten. A fresh egg won't rattle.

I like it. I want to try this for my pigs.. I'm thinking that I'd make it exactly like you did except cut loose the top ring from the verticals braces and lower the whole top down to the next horizontal braces.. 🤔

I have been using this kind of hay feeder for almost a year. It has not helped me save hay one bit.

Your feeder would work well for sheep and goats but if you got 10 cows or 5 eating they will destroy that
@morethanfarmers2 жыл бұрын
Good chance you're right.. I've got two cows, and have never had a problem. I wouldn't be scared to have a couple more in with it, but I probably wouldn't wanna try more than that.
@fordguyfordguy2 жыл бұрын
Not sure if you have ever tried to mess with those metal containers but they are as tough as anything designed for a cow. And for those of us who have dexters or small cattle, there is zero chance the cows will destroy it. But honestly, no full size cow will destroy that either!!!
@bcpfarmandtrucking65602 жыл бұрын
@fordguyfordguy I've seen lots destroyed by cattle...full size cattle...you definitely haven't been around 1500 to 2000lb animals
