@@morethanfarmers It will help you, that is all. These people that you casually respond to will never do anything with their lives outside KZbin and you know this. Your so called objective is counterfeited as 99.9% of people watching your videos will never wake up early like you and I do to feed calves, chickens sheep etc. But hey, perhaps you'll prove me wrong and put a call out to one of these wide eyed youtube watchers to see if they'd like to spend a day or so on your farm to truly experience what we do on a daily basis. All being said, the careers you listed above are indeed careers. You are incorrect. I currently live in a suburb and want to have a small homestead when I retire. I’m learning how to garden now (in a small space) and plan to grow more of my own food later on. I watched one of their videos to figure out how to cure the onions I grew for the first time this year. I will also store my carrots in plastic bags in the fridge like Michelle did this year and I am going to try thinning them more in my fall garden so they will grow bigger. Definitely watching, learning and putting things into practice. Maybe the majority will watch for entertainment but there are absolutely people learning too.

My husband and I are hoping to transition into homesteading life over the next couple of years. It's really refreshing to see you guys doing real life chores (both "farm" and "regular" chores). I'm sure there's much frustration, stress, and tears, especially when you're starting out and trying to learn everything. But I would be willing. Alas, my life situation doesn't make it possible. I'm 50+, single/no kids (not by choice), taking care of elderly parent, and barely working part time. But I love to see people doing it and I wish your family the best. Thanks for doing this video. What people need the most is the TRUTH, the whole truth and the simple truth. People have to remember that you didn't start out with all of this but grew into doing all of this over several years. It's called learned skills for a reason. Look, children doing chores and having responsibilities and it didn't hurt them!!! Chores are the best thing in the world for children!!! I think that break during the day is a great idea. I garden in the morning, then a bath and a nap before moving on with the day. (I'm 70) the heat takes a lot out of me. God bless y'all and keep growing.

Thank you for this video! I just finished selling off all my animals here recently i had goats chickens pigs and plenty of other things for 2 years and eventually i burned myself out but now that i have enjoyed a few weeks off i’m ready to start back especially with the way the economy and world is trending these days. This time i want to have less animals and be more economical in growing most of their food as well as mine and with a full time job and a baby under 1 this has given me hope and drive to do the hard things in life in hopes of a better future. The homestead trend on youtube is definitely hope for it as well to show the world is somewhat reversing course to a life before the industrial revolution where your job is actually to survive and not just make money but also enjoy nature and the outdoors. Letting kids grow up in a great environment where they can play, learn how to grow food, eating an actual healthy diet, and having involved parents is what I believe will secure the future of the generations to come because school were never intended to raise a child thats where we come in! Thanks again and I really enjoy your content!

I am so so so so EXTREMELY glad to see a family that prioritizes, healthy and family and not just sitting in front of a screen all damn day long (xcuse my french). I am just sick and tired of seeing kids just all day on the tablet looking at stuff that isn't improving their minds AT ALL. My older sister's kids sit on the tablet and watch spiderman, barbie, and just stuff that isn't enriching them or helping them become a better human or more wholesome being. Also, EVERY HOUR of their life is structured so everyone can pretty much guess-timate what they are supposed to be doing. This is the most PERFECT example of a well-rounded family I've ever seen!!!!

I love this! My wife and I are both early 20’s and building a homestead on 5 acres. It’s early mornings and late nights, often just seeing your spouse for a fast high five in passing. It takes a lot of communication and understanding when it comes to your marriage to keep a homestead pushing with raising a family. Definitely a blessing, but it has times that the stress is real. I’m glad to see someone showing the real side of this life and how all though it’s very rewarding, it isn’t always your “instagram reel” homestead we all see. Great video!
@morethanfarmers Жыл бұрын
The stress is real. My biggest piece of advice (whether you asked for it or not 😉) Prioritize your marriage. Homesteading isn’t the most important thing. We started this in our early twenties. Homesteading can be super stressful and overwhelming, especially when you’re figuring things out, building infrastructure, etc. We let it take over our lives and our marriage went downhill. To be fair we also had 3 children close together during our starting days. We ended up so bad off we had to go through a few rounds of marriage counseling and we’re STILL working through the hurts and damage. I’d trade our homestead for our marriage any day. They can definitely both be done, and working together on a homestead can even be good for marriage. Just don’t end up sacrificing your marriage for the homestead 😊 Many blessings on your journey!

Hard question.. Number one because we haven't experienced that. But also, you are correct.. The "divide and conquer" makes a huge difference. Doing it on your own would be tough, but I know there are lots who do it! I'd give the same advice to someone with or without a partner: Start small. Build little by little. Start something new AFTER you've conquered the previous thing. You'll get there.

I'd love to see a video on chores for kids and how you came up with that. I'm the homesteader of the family and though my husband is supportive of my urban homestead, I'm constantly overwhelmed since I work full time. I have 1000' of garden and do all of the gardening and preserving, plus everything else in life and I'm drowning. I overthink everything and then get analysis paralysis so just end up doing everything myself 😂🆘
@morethanfarmers Жыл бұрын
We get that. It's really hard! We've always worked together, and we still ended up getting burned out. Don't let it get that far. It's not worth it. Take on what you can handle, and grow into more. Hopefully your husband will catch the vision 😉 We considered doing a video about the kids chores, but we are also trying not to showcase our children too much. We try not to give em too much, but try to give them enough to at least be a little challenged. It helps them grow in their responsibility. We also pay them. It's not a lot, but enough that they feel rewarded and are motivated. Blessings on your journey!

Your dream and life is amazing. For the past few years, I've been learning gardening and farming. Someday when i get my own place i hope to have a few acres and have chickens, bees, and a nice garden. Cows would be nice but that might be far later. I come from a family of farmers so I've learned a bit from some of them. Other learning has been researching online, videos, and learning from various online farming and homesteading community members like yourself. Im originally from Pennsylvania and currently in Maryland. I am looking forward to moving to the Shenandoah region of Virginia to continue my adventures. I recently found your channel and have been binge-watching your videos and learning more every day. Each year I've been learning more things to grow in my garden. This year I'm loving my peppers, potatoes, and zucchini. Havent done great with tomatoes or cucumbers this year but every year is different. I love projects and have built my own tables for growing in containers and built raised beds along with built a working potting table from and old grill and 30 gallon drum. Ive also been adding more hydroponic buckets using lowes paint buckets and 6 in net pot lids have been great for my peppers this year and last year so ill doing more of them. Ive been learning old ways of camping, cooking on cast iron, and other simple lifestyle projects. Ive learned how to make bread and interested in making soap someday too. Its always fun to dream and think what you can do.

I just found your channel a few days ago and I'm loving it! I live right outside New York City, so I'm not a homesteader, but for the last 3 years, I've been growing fruits and veggies in my backyard using 4 4'x4' beds, some pots, and a vertical planter i bought 2 more vertical planters and seeds for next year already. I've already learned from you, and I'm so appreciative. We have Junebearing strawberries from the previous owner in ground. I just let hubby know, when he mows next time, to mow over the strawberry patch as the season is over for them. I mulch with leaves so the weeds are minimal. Your channel helps me to feel less intimidated and more inspired. Thank you! From Rachel from NYC.

Your front porch looks like my kitchen right now. My tomatoes are all canned. Right now I have peaches, zucchini, peppers, and green beans to finish up. I'm always tired by the end of canning season, but feel so good when I look at all my canned goods for the winter.

I am the same way. I have been for 13 years, I make my husband's breakfast and lunch for the day. I do it while I am making mine(when I am working, I work construction), when I am laid off, I make coffee while putting his breakfast and lunch together, then when he leaves for the day, I enjoy my coffee with our 2 cats. He never asked me to, I just started doing it. And I enjoy doing it😊

We haven't had an issue with the squirrels. They seem content in the woods 😊

One day, could you do a diagram of the paddocks (arial view), so we could see the layout. I'm not getting it from the videos, but I really want to understand the layout because it's a good idea. Is there a video on how you overcame adrenal fatigue? And lastly, which parts of the house are metal siding and which are wood? Thanks!
@morethanfarmers Жыл бұрын
Yeah, I'll try to do that sometime. We don't have anything specifically about adrenal fatigue. Michelle has been working with a naturopath. It's really been a lot of rest, taking care of herself, healing in our marriage, and taking some supplements. If it's something you're dealing with I'd really encourage you to find somebody to work with. It'd be pretty difficult to go at it alone! The gables are metal, under the porch is metal, and about the same area on the back of the house is metal. That was so we could easily pull it off to add an addition someday. The rest is Hardi-Plank.

@@morethanfarmers thank you! My daughter has struggled with some of the same symptoms as your wife since she left college. While she’s done, a lot of healing, I’m always looking for inputs about what worked for others. I’m building a house very similar to yours. Your encouragement on your farm tour, where you said, if it was in your heart to do it, then it could be done, was very helpful for me. I wrote it in my journal and have referred back to it often. I’m a new widow, tackling the building of a Homestead, a house and a shop. While I have help with the building, these are large projects and daunting at times. But I know it can be done.

This was a beautiful video. I really enjoyed the story. The thing I like most about your channel is that it is real. Many of the channels I used to watch have grown so much that they are no longer achievable for the average person. Thank you and praying that God continues to bless you. I usually watch them when they come out but I have spent the last 2 days canning 2 bushel of peaches and just now got to relax. Canning season is real and work but so much joy when you see 40 qts jars of peaches on the shelves that you know where picked local and at the time they had the highest sugar and nutritional content.
@morethanfarmers Жыл бұрын
Hey that's great! I wanna grow peaches someday 😊 Glad you're enjoying the videos!
@Mindy56743 Жыл бұрын
@@morethanfarmers I purchased the peaches from a local orchard or the Amish store. This year was a Amish store because we had a bad freeze that killed the blooms. Otherwise I will get seconds at the orchard for a large savings. I don’t have a garden and we get seconds for tomatoes and just about everything else because it cost less than half it cost of the normal price.
