We raise/grow all of our own beef, chicken, eggs, milk, vegetables, and some fruit. What are some MORE ways we grow and make food to keep us from buying as much food from the grocery store? That's what self-sufficiency is all about.

I couldn't agree more! The farm life is the BEST life there is, ever! I will have my own farm someday in the near future after my education from college and from the university. I already have a plan for that, so I am prepared. I am a student in college right now (by the way, it is my first year so I am blessed)! So I am going to continue with my education and go on from there. 😉

I agree, same for me. In Russia this was our life, prossessing chickens anytime ourselves, and have neighbors help when we doing a cow or pig. But I got adopted by Americans 20 yrs ago and America unteaches you everything and instead of self-sufficient you completely dependent to the point of slavery, right. Well after 2020 realizing the reality that is coming down the pipeline with their Great Reset UN and WEF and how they just might starve us into compliance, I realize I need to go back to my roots but have no clue where to go outside of US and where to start or how to even do it. It's painful to see how America literally robbed all the younger generations of this knowledge and parents didn't notice the importance of it. But it's all about perspective, If we only knew how volnurable we are we would want this knowledge not AI. But anyway im at 1% now, I got one thing going is that I wake up at 4am and go to gym and eat anything good that I can that our God made for our good, but besides that it is frightening. My husband understand we must go to his country since he had a lot of friends and family and land is tax free as of right now but will we be able to before 2030 God willing we will, otherwise this digital prison cells will close and we stuck here Matthew 10:28. So don't know when you planning on doing it but we must do it sooner than later.

So instead of purchasing cooking spray, you can actually get a bump based aerosol bottle with a spray nozzle from like pampered chef or possibly amazon and put olive oil in it. You pump the top and then the spray nozzle creates a mist of the olive oil (or other oil you like). We LOVE this thing.

There’s so many homesteading channels that I’ve come across since I really started to give this life some serious thought but just came across your channel today. All I can say is Wow! The more I learn, and I’ve learned a lot from you guys already, the more I realize how much there is to consider when planting or growing just about ANYTHING. Haha. My goodness it’s kind of overwhelming. But I know it’s all trial and error and you have to learn and start somewhere. I have 5 acres and I feel like I have the perfect space to start becoming more self sufficient but I struggle with procrastination. Watching more of your videos might just give me the motivation I need. Thanks for sharing your life and process with the rest of us. God bless.

That's so good to hear! Thank you. It can be overwhelming, but especially if you try to take on too much at once. We started out with babies in diapers, building a house, starting a garden, having chickens, and getting a milk cow pretty much all at once 😬 NOT recommended 😂 Take it one step at a time. Maybe start a simple garden one year, then get chickens the next. Get comfortable with that before diving into a milk cow, get good at a few simple garden things before adding more variety, etc. You got this. Have fun too!

I enjoy foods fresh from the farm. I don't even go to grocery stores. I go to farmer's markets for the ingredients I need because farmer's markets sell the most healthiest and the most humane foods and products ever! I don't even buy bread, pasta, butter and other things, because I make them at home. But I still go to farmer's markets for the ingredients I need for all that because I live in a city. Never was fond of the city life because I was born and raised in the countryside (not on a farm but in a trailer park). But I am hanging in there. I know God is in control and He will bring me back to the countryside on His time! His time is far more perfect AND better than my time. For with God, everything is possible! ☺️🙏🤗

I buy Amish organic cottage cheese and yours looks exactly like what I buy from them. Give yourself a break! You did an amazing job! Thanks for sharing everything you do on your homestead! I so struggle with the tiny 3/4 acre we have and homeschooling our 2 kids as one completely rebelled. If you ever have a free moment can you share how to start your sourdough starter? It would be most helpful. Cody, I so appreciate your testimony as well. Wish you and Michelle lived closer, although Ohio is only an 8hr drive. Thanks for the inspiration! Hoping for a dairy cow someday

Thanks for the support! As for the sourdough starter, I did make one on my own but it wasn't very robust. A friend offered me some of hers and I couldn't believe the difference. I really do believe that starters become more robust over time. So if you know a friend who has one, that would be a great option. You can also order a bit of starter off of Etsy. They aren't expensive at all and will save you a lot of time and grief. Keep dreaming about the dairy cow😉

In spite of excessive heat during the last 2 weeks here in our area of Arizona, I did harvest two cucumbers this morning - I have a tiny garden so am really happy to have now harvested five cucumbers on the one plant (have 2 more cucumber plants but they are not yet bearing). I support the bush cucumber plants using tomato cages and I have found that works fine (the square tall type at Home Depot or Lowes or Tractor Supply, Menards, etc.). Abt. Cottage cheese - most store type have a lot of salt. Don't know if any or how much was used for your home-made scratch cottage cheese. Glad you enjoyed the finished one.

This is definitely one of the best videos you have done. As a family of 7, we have to raise as much food as we can. We also make all of our breads, tortillas, crackers, etc from scratch. We grow much of our own medicine as well. I wish I could hang my herbs, but without air conditioning, it gets super hot here in Oklahoma. We do dry what we harvest in the fall. We also make our own soap and shampoo, lotions(tallow is wonderful for the skin), balms. Our next goals include finishing the root cellar and turning off the electricity completely. Slowly but surely we will get there. Love all that we share in common! It's encouraging to see others live this way. God bless you and your family ❤️

I’m so a new subscriber! You guys make me hopeful that homesteading is possible for me and mine. I’m probably really late and you have probably figured it out already, but I make my own cottage cheese because I eat so much! Like 2 big tubs from the wholesale stores in one week. So I do the yogurt boil setting on my instant pot and then after it’s done I put 1/4c lemon juice or white vinegar(as a last resort 😉), 1/4tsp salt into the 1 gallon of milk and let it sit for 20/30minutes. Drain and add a little whipping cream to the batch. That is the closest I have gotten to the store bought ones. We don’t have rennin readily available here in Hawaii and I’m very impatient waiting for things to be shipped.😂 I probably will be binge watching all of your videos tonight. TBH. 🫠

So wonderful that you’re providing this lifestyle for your children and that they get to learn from you. Did you guys grow up on a homestead/farm? Who taught you all the things you know about gardening and making your own bread, cheese, etc.?

I, Codi, grew up in the country and owned a horse, but I had to learn pretty much everything homesteading when we started 10 years ago. Michelle grew up gardening and her dad raised veal calves 🥴 She had a lot to learn too. All in all we might’ve had a better start than some, but we still had HUGE learning curves. Now we hope we can help others get a better start 😊

Hello there 🕊️ I learn so much on your channel!!!!! 💛 The fresh cheese/cottage cheese looks perfectly fine. Don't forget that the store baught cottage cheese is made with more chemicals which makes the cottage cheese separate. Plus their milk is a lot lower quality than yours. As I know from my grandparents homestead this is perfectly fine fresh cheese, which can be turned into lot of different fresh or aged cheeses. And this kind of cheese gives a super European stile cheesecake. 💛

Your beef tallow is what we called lard. We'd get a 5 gallon can of it at a time from the meat market. Growing up we never used vegetable, canola. Coconut or olive oil. We were always healthy.
@morethanfarmers
@morethanfarmers 9 ай бұрын
That’s really cool. Lard is similar to tallow, but lard is made from pork fat, tallow is made from beef.

We were on a project in Ukraine, and lived next door to an older farming couple. She made cottage cheese for us several times a week. It came out more solid and we broke off chunks of it to eat. It was really good!! A different texture than what we get in USA, but was a wonderful treat for two hungry people. 😉

Just a reminder on the freeze dryer you make all your food before just in case of an EMP or a CME OR Massive food shortages. And besides your generator wont work unless you have it in a faraday cage ahead of time and you wont be able to get gas for it because the gas pumps wont work or the trucks will not run either and all your food in the freezer will spoil. But other than that you guys are amazing HATS OFF TO YOU GUYS KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK.

this is my second video of yours-as somebody who does a lot of processing I'm talking to Dad there you want to grip your knife especially your french knife over the hilt of the handle-that is with your curved index finger forward against the blade that is the correct grip-hold it the way you've been holding it and wave it around the blade is disjointed from the handle if you hold it correctly the blade is one with your handlle and grip xo superchef !

This film was so much fun but also super informative. Thank you so much for sharing this. Hubby and I are retired and eat organic the whole way, from toothpaste to toilet paper and everything I between but I wish I could rewind the clock and go back and give this homesteading life a shot. I know it's a lot of work but IMO it is sooooo worth it. Your children are so blessed to have parents like you who care enough about their health to go the extra mile (100 miles!😂) to insure they have a better life. Good luck in all you do and God bless you!! Lots of love from Texas!❤

I make basic cottage cheese with full fat milk and lemon juice. Heat it and put in the lemon juice. When the curds form it’s done. I just drain it and it keeps in the fridge for a week or so. I add salt pepper and herbs and garlic and then use it over pasta

Hello from New Zealand. You two are the best. ❤️ 👨‍🌾This is how I grew up and how my husband and I mostly live…..eating from our garden and from what I make. I try to stay away from the supermarket too. It’s so lovely how you all work together and your children are so sweet too. We have a wonderful plum tree that fruits in January, our summer, and I like to make sauce, chutney, and bottle/can the fruit for winter desserts. It’s very hot at that time of the year but I do it anyway. And here we are in winter now eating stewed plums for breakfast and desserts .
