"she told me to go fishing and catch her some surf perch" I think we'd all love to have a wife like that!! I noticed what looks like a yellow hook keeper forward of the reel seat. I've two rods that don't have a hook keeper, would like to add something for that purpose. Really don't understand why this isn't on all rods??

3 quarter onz egg sinker .size 6 hook. Spaghetti strainer and your hand to dig out the sand crabs in to the spaghetti strainer. And they make a rake to get sand crabs. I've done a lot of surf fishing the difference between the two crabs is one has shed its hard shell. They both are good to fish with.

Nice. Really fun fishing for surf perch. I wish we had sand crabs here in Washington but unfortunately we don't lol seems like surf perch really enjoy them there. I guess Sand shrimp will do for now :)
@thomassmestead28012 жыл бұрын
Try GULP imitation sandworms in the 2" size, camo color. Also Berkeley's " Micetails" in chartreuse and orange, which is for trout, but works for red tails, too. Razor clam necks work, too. Berkeley also makes an imitation ghost shrimp, haven't tried it yet, but I'll stretchy string them onto a hook, just like live sand shrimp, and see if it works too, next trip out to the coast. When I'm in the field, I carry a variety of imitations and natural baits, switch them up, when the perch get picky. Fish are funny that way, they'll hit one offering consistently, and then refuse to touch it after awhile, so I've learned through experience, to have an "arsenal" of offerings to throw at them, on hand. Good luck. Tight lines.

The video and fishing look great, i just wonder what you put on a barred surf perch to change that funky musty taste they have. The meat is also quite soft and have quite a few bones . Basically we just put them back and work the the surf for halibut instead and load the freezer for months when the halibut are gone. fish fried in oil is a classic old way to cook fish and maybe thats the way to incorporate some fat and more flavor but i'm wondering what spices other than Salt and pepper would help.
