brushfyr The body will not eat muscle before fat. Your body is not stupid, muscle = survival. Your body will tap into muscle for energy for the first 24-48 hours, afterwards it will go directly to fat until you no longer have any fat and then it will tap into muscle again.

People always point to her as being a "plus-sized" role model and use her size 12 as a point but I remember reading somewhere that she was a size 12, but at that time a size 12 was equivalent to what is a smaller size today. That only addresses physical disability though. You are completely ignoring the mental illnesses that can make it nearly impossible without proper medical AND mental health care. Which, by the way is very hard and expensive to get in the USA. When was the last time you saw a comprehensive weight loss program that includes a doctor, dietician, therapist and community support that a person suffering from severe mental illness can afford? Or that insurance would cover (if you are lucky enough to have insurance or even be able to afford it with insurance). Your mom is an awesome human that did something not many people can do, that took some serious personal strength. But not everyone has that and it's not good to forget that obesity can stem from psychological hurts you can't see are there.

@@dilloncuffaro436 My mother suffered from depression all her adult life and had to go through extremely painful operations and slow processes of healing to get her where she is now. A person can not and will not change, if they don't really want to. Even if your healthcare would be free and the people around you can support you all the way, but if you don't want to do it yourself, nothing will change. It is about making the right choices always. Free help is always out there if you look for it. For example watching these videos with the intention of learning from it instead of just critiquing it.

Every damn dog we've had would have easily gulped down any and all food offered to them, I don't think they would have stopped even if their stomachs burst open.. We've had a few cats like that as well. I was staying in a hostel in Taiwan last year where the owner had a cat (that was staying in the hostel). Every time a new guest showed up, she would inform them to lock away any and all food or snacks they brought with them and never walk away from any food because the cat would get to it if given the opportunity. Nobody believed her because the cat was tiny so they would just laugh it off. I remember more than one occasion when the cat would break into people's bags and steal their food. I also remember the few times I ate at the hostel and had to hold the cat in one arm to keep him from getting to my food. He was the same; if there was food, he would eat it and he wouldn't stop. The reason they don't do that in the wild is because they actually have to hunt their food and work for it, whereas pets are handed their food without effort. Hell, go to a zoo and you'll see the same thing. A zoo lion definitely has more meat on its bones than a wild one, and (unfortunately) less muscle.

Sorry I had to jump in on this comment, mostly because I wasn't sure in what way it was intended; I'm assuming based on context of the time grab that you were implying that people addicted to heroin wound up addicted to heroin because they didn't feel good/happy and turned to illegal substances (?). Just curious because I almost read it as meaning an addict's body knows how to function without the drug use and people should be able to just give it up, let it go because you're body can compensate without it (?). Yes it's nit picky but being a former addict and bio major to now an addiction specialist, I hear people who have never experienced this say, 'just quit'. They don't understand that the body chemistry has literally changed and that it does in fact need that substance to function normally just as anyone else may need a drug to compensate for a chemical it does not produce. They don't realise that when a person begins supplying their body with a chemical it makes naturally or a chemical that triggers a particular, physical response that, in an attempt to maintain balance, it quits producing it on it's own or in much lesser volume than previously and that when they quit feeding it, the body doesn't just go back to functioning the way it previously did which is why it's such a beast.

@@aspenmontgomery409 I think the OP meant that a herion addict sees herion as 'good' and 'nice to the body' but that doesn't mean it's healthy, just like eating a cheeseburger might be part of 'intuitive eating' because you genuinely crave it but that doesn't make it healthy for your body. Human body's are fucked up and don't know whats good for them.

ಬჩítიeყ elaíიe I meant that heroin makes the addict feel good, and that their body tells them to get more because it makes you feel better, even though it’s obviously not good for you. I did not mean that a heroin addict can just kick heroin and function like a healthy individual, just that your body craving something and “knowing how to make itself feel good” is a stupid point when compared to other addictive substances and foods like drugs or alcohol

Note: babies CAN "eat" emotionally till their tummies are too full. Breastmilk made my kid's tummy ache, which in return made him want boobs more for comfort. He would puke the excess milk out and then cry for more. That shit was scary. Allergy formula made him go from a 24/7 crying pukemonster into a smiling, giggling bebe with a normal feeding cycle.

Body positivity has become toxic and hypocritical as hell. I personally have issues with my self-esteem (I'm not overweight, just pregnant rn.) and I've been told that I've fat shamed somebody or other because I was thin at the time. I don't get why they keep pushing that thin girls are a**holes to heavier girls, and I'd like to know why.

I got criticized by those friend's. I had loose skin and they were constantly telling me it was gross and that's why they will never lose weight. But at the same time would cry and say they were going to lose weight because they went to the doctor's and saw how much they weighed. It's been 6 years and I have kept the weight off. Still a food addict though. I loved watching you!!!

Quina well it wasn’t caused by the junk food directly, it was because he was eating junk food and not getting all the vitamins and what not that he needed. To me the headlines are kinda misleading to say junk food caused this kid to go blind and deaf. He has had the horrible diet for around 10 years and the doctors did give him vitamin shots to try and get him back up to his normal levels but I assume the parents didnt have access to the gp because he never went back to get more shots

The idea that all food is equal and energy is energy is literally what they tell people at inpatient eating disorder hospitals. For an individual that has a panic attack sitting in front of a piece of white bread, it is helpful for them to see food as neutral. It frustrates me that overweight people have taken the rhetoric to appease their conscience about their health.

Congenital amputee here. As someone who was born with no hand and an arm about 3 inches shorter than my fully developed one, it is critical for me to be active. I think that amputees have to be most concerned about muscle atrophy and posture, both which can deteriorate so quickly if you are not staying active, and they are critical for functioning as a human. My parents had to take me to a specialist to make sure I was using my arm naturally when I was an infant and I know that those who have lost limbs (my coworker is a non-congenital amputee) have to go through extensive PT to learn how to adapt to their new life. That picture to me had NOTHING to do with being an amputee. In my opinion, it was just encouraging people who especially need to stay active to just give in to avoiding hard work rather than be a beast and embrace the extra challenge that comes with their uniqueness. It showed absolutely nothing about being an amputee, and that is very disrespectful to just use that as a throw-in to pretend like they're being inclusive, just like the images with the kinky hair and the freckles. It's all the same to me and it's disgusting. But I am sure I am just preaching to the choir here :) In other news, I absolutely adore your nerdy, sassy channel, Michelle!

Baby's don't emotional eat, or have food addiction. And anyone whose had enough pets will eventually have that one animal that will eat all day every day. My cat, if I don't control his food, will eat untill he gets sick, and then eat some more. I seen it. He ate 5lbs of a 10lbs bag of cat food in a matter of hours doing this. A few years ago, before he was put on a diet, he ate himself so big he couldn't hardly jump on the couch anymore. That dumb fluff balls body don't know what it needs anymore than my eat-a-whole-cake-in-one-sitting body does.

Thank you for this post. The image of the obese amputee looking for acceptance made me think of my mother. She had a major stroke in 2014 after years of type 2 diabetes which she didn't control. She started on oral medication and progressed to insulin dependence before her stroke. She was 65 years old. She was in ICU for a week in an induced coma to allow her brain to be slowly reperfused with blood so she wouldn't have another stroke. She had been counseled regarding her diet in the years leading up to the stroke, time during which she continued to drink full sugar soda, eat donuts and bread with pasta meals. When she was getting bad, she finally listened to the nutritionist and got off the soda. She switched to orange juice. All. Day. Long. Needless to say, her average blood glucose reading was in the 300 to 400 plus range (normal is 65-99). All along the way she developed other side effects of chronic systemic inflammation, thyroid disease, arthritis, artherosclerosis, etc. She developed blood clots throughout her body, legs, heart arteries, carotid arteries. This is a direct result of a chronic high sugar diet-that's science!! As it turns out, being able to stand was the only thing keeping any blood going to her feet, through near full obstructed arteries in her legs, because within 6 months after her stroke, her left foot died. Sorry if that is blunt, but it is a fact. Gravity was keeping it from dying until the stroke knocked out all the motor function on her left side and she became bed-bound. I had to make the decision to have her leg amputated above the knee because my father, her husband, couldn't do it. I still feel guilty about it now, but it was her leg or her life. For the last five years this active, spitfire of a woman has been bed-bound, diaper-wearing, existing-but-not-living, relying on family and caregivers to take care of her bathing, feeding, doctor appointments, everything. Think about what you do in a day, every personal, private thing, and picture having to ask a loved one or paid stranger to do it for you. The kicker is that it was all avoidable, all of it. I know this was a long piece, but I don't think these younger viewers understand, it's what you do now that causes what chronic conditions you get later. There is a cumulative effect to chronic high sugar diets that take time to build up in your system before bloodwork and chronic pain, and neuropathy occurs, but when these conditions present themselves, it is very difficult to reverse the effects, if at all possible, as in the case of nerve damage. Sorry for the rant, thanks for staying with me to the end.

Marilyn Monroe was actually pretty small..... From what I understand, her measurements were 5'5" height 34-36D bra(fluctuated with weight gain and weight loss) 22" waist 35-36" hips Fluctuating between 115-120lbs... I don't know why people thought she was a lot bigger.... She wasn't...dress sizes were pretty wonky back then though, nothing but jumbled numbers depending on which brand you were wearing, so maybe that has something to do with it.think you should make a video on it, it's something you would definitely have to do quite a bit of research for, but I think it would be totally cool to hear it from you!

Something interesting: my fiancee mother said as a baby he would drink milk & eat food tell he puked (like he didn't know when to stop). Surprisingly he has dealt w/ binge eating issues. I wonder if there is data / research on this behavior??

@@NovaDoll agreed when I heard this It made me think, was he born with not knowing when to stop eating? However doing a little studying binge eating in children has to do alot with family influenced behaviors but in a baby or toddler odd. Idk.

a lot of babies will over feed themselves if you don’t stop them. especially very young babies. the parent has to know when their child has had enough.

I'm currently recovering from anorexia and I'm almost weight restored. I'd like to have a healthy relationship with exercise and build muscle. I would like to change my relationship with food and exercise so the purpose is health instead of weight loss. Do you have any advice for that go could you maybe make a video on exercise when you're in recovery from an eating disorder?

Hey, your body let you abuse it because of emotional stress and probably being trapped in your state of life. If you totally let go, it's the same coin, just different consequences for your body and mental helath. Start with a therapist, why you had to start, what couldn't you accept (being sexy, growing up, control over life...). Be kind to yourself. Find always something to praise in your reflection. Allow yourself mistakes - in judgments, eating,... You are whole - strong body can serve you well, take you places, give and receive love/hugs/touch. It's ok to try, do your best, ask for help and support, and strive towards a goal/s. Don't ever reduce your magnificence to only small frame and weight. Know, that this pain, once healed, can help other people heal too. That we all carry some burdens and traumas, and yet still, some of the biggest harts have the most scars. Best of luck. Love.

Eifos 135 I need to make an effort to stay the right weight, If I don’t eat enough protein and fat I end up really skinny one time I was off the scale. But if you have a lot of full fat and protein at the same time as working out you’ll do just fine. I will admit it is as equally hard for us skinny people to gain muscle as it is for fat people to first time, the exercise I get is dancing everyday.

I just love watching your videos! I was overweight and everyone around me would always be positive about it “oh no you’re fine!” “Don’t change,” even though I was depressed and fuckin hated my body. I was insecure and miserable, I busted my ass to drop from 235 to 150 and I’m still reaching for better. I’ll never get behind the body positive movement that those girls promote (I agree with your perspective on body positivity). All I know is that the fatter I was the more miserable I was. The healthier I am the happier I am. And honestly I firmly believe that most of those body positive women feel the same way they just don’t want to admit it and are too lazy to do something about it. Tsk tsk. Keep making your videos and calling them out! 💪🏻

Yeah PCOS is genetic in my family, I got lucky I haven't shown any signs of it and my mom is pretty big and has always struggled with her weight because of it. But my mom tried so hard to prevent it by always making sure me and my sister had healthy foods and stayed active. And I definitely gained weight once I started taking birth control but it by no means was a huge amount.

Olivia Same girl. I used to be 120-130, but I was put on a mood stabilizer that made me gain weight. I’m now 165 and 5’3 so I’m a little overweight, but not morbidly obese. Since getting off of the medication, I don’t gain weight. I just maintain.

A medication that can cause severe weight gain that I used to take was risperidone. That was a major reason why I gained 80 pounds in 6 months. That stuff can do nasty things to you.

I've taken that! The weight gain was the reason I stopped taking it, that and the constant drowsiness. I only gained about 20 or so pounds in two years (90lbs-116lbs at 5'0ft) but I was visibly not thin. Family kept pointing it out so I was happy to see it all melt off once I kicked the risperidone. The situps, mile walks, green tea, and steamed veggie diet finally worked once the drugs were out of my system.

“Fuck Thinner Eat Dinner” really fucks with me because I’ve been dealing with eating disorders and potion control since I was around 15 years old and have been bullied mercilessly for it (apparently as a guy I “can’t have an eating disorder”). If these people think it’s rude when others label them fat and tell them to stop eating(which, it is), then I find it equally as rude and hypocritical for them to label people like me thin and tell me to eat and then put that shit on a shirt. They may just be referencing themselves, like “I don’t have to be thin I can eat what I want” but if someone said a shirt displaying “Fuck Fatter Eat Lesser” was referencing THEMselves and how “I don’t have to be fat I can just not eat” people would riot and call it fatphobia. How about we just appreciate that there are different eating disorders, different body shapes, and being told to get healthy isn’t meant to be offensive? Sorry for the rant. Also, nice hair, the color really suits you 🥰

I have a bunch of disabilities. I’ve gone through foot surgery and two major back surgeries. I have kyphosis. And I was obese for a majority of my 20’s. I ended up realizing what I was. I had a mental breakdown. And since 7/15/14 I’ve managed to lose and maintain a healthy weight and lifestyle. Went from a 3X down to a size 2/small.
