We don’t know what walkers see or if they have any conscious experience, there’s good evidence there’s still some kind of person in there (I.e Morgan’s wife twisting the door handle; Senator walker walking toward PADRE). They also don’t care if their target is alive, so long as their flesh is still relatively fresh, as they’ve been seen to eat people or animals already dead. The whole eyes thing was never really given any importance other than in some promotional trailers and ads, in which they played Morgan’s more well known line about seeing red. They likely just thought it was a neat little parallel and used it for promoting the season, but there’s no significance beyond that. He was just very ill from a months-old, untreated gunshot wound lol.

The whole rotting flesh dont make sense legit they put guts and al kinds of crap over them to walk by the walkers i think its genuinely his dying and his organs was failing so legit the walkers sensed he was basically dying already or his pulse was real weak ...i just cant buy into the fact he had rotten flesh and thats why because with the whole got things zombies still sense you even if you make a slight noise or fast movement 😅
