Morgan Plus Four Road Test - 255bhp BMW Turbo Powered

During a recent factory trip to Morgan, Andy gets behind the wheel of the Plus Four. The recently launched (2019) CX platform is a paradigm shift for Morgan, with the coach built cars now based on an aluminium bonded chassis and BMW turbocharged engines ensuring the iconic '50s design is underpinned by a thoroughly modern approach.

I've a 70th Anniversary model 4/4 with a Duratec engine as well as older Plus 4's ('57 and '63). All great. For me the traditional chassis car with an engine around 2 litres is just right. More power isn't needed and may cause you to come a cropper. Some people are buying the new hyper cars without the skills required to control them in poor conditions. Meantime, my very first car was a Ford engined F-type Morgan three wheeler too which you used to be able to drive at 16. I've driven them for - ouch - 50 years! I'd go with a Duratec 1.8 or 2 litre car, or the great TR engine or Crossflow in an earlier car, either on twin 40 DCOE carbs (which sound great too). Throttle bodies work well on the Duratecs...

They already sell everything they make, 6 - 12 month waiting list and the buyers are true motoring enthusiasts who don't care about that sort of thing. The morgan is lightweight. The brand stands for tradition, craftmanship and pure motoring not for convenience.
