Nice vid. The burning milk around the steam wand is an issue even with the Infuser, a bigger model with much more power and a longer wand. I quickly learned to only use a wet towel so when I purge it and wipe it is already clean. Just be careful because a wet towel will get hot very fast. Never let the milk accumulate, bacteria, you know, and never wipe it with an abrasive sponge or the chrome will deteriorate and the milk will stick easily. Other tip, always lift the protective plastic on the wand and clean under it because the milk gets there too.

Seems like a great little machine to start out on. It has flaws that most, if not all, other machines in its price range also exhibit. My main concern with this machine would be temperature stability and brew pressure. Machines at higher price points struggle with this as well. Even my Rancilio Silvia required a PID and pressure adjustment in order to perform well without "surfing" the temps. The small size of this machine may allow it to reach brewing temp fast, but does it hold that temp over the course of pulling the shot? At the end of the day, it may not matter, as this isn't a high end espresso aficionado targeted appliance. It's small, easy to use, and looks nice, while still delivering a good manual espresso machine experience. That's what most people are after.
@WillardTurner4 жыл бұрын
Another thing to mention is that, at this price point, it is often said that the grinder is more important than the machine. You're using a Rocky, which is about $100 more expensive than the machine itself. I wonder if the people in the market for this machine are going to be willing to shell out another $300-$400 for a grinder. It gives a good option for those not wanting a built in grinder, like the Barista Express, and I suppose would give you more upgrade options for those wanting to get more serious about espresso in the future.

In case nobody has mentioned this, you should give the newer and bigger Bambino Plus a try if or when you get a chance. The steaming wand is a miracle -- especially as compared to this non-plussed Bambino -- and they made other excellent improvements as well. This model ships with both pressurized and previously missing non-pressurized baskets (in NA and EU for sure). They certainly had me square in their marketing sights: espresso beginner/newb, prefers milk-based drinks. I love that it can automatically steam up a jug of oat milk completely unattended so I can make a fast cappuccino. But I was encouraged to order a proper espresso grinder now and I'll be using the non-pressurized baskets ASAP. Loving your presentation style!

What's the difference between the pressurized and non pressurized baskets? I'm looking for a simple affordable espresso machine and thinking about buying this one....
@BruceWalkerPhotography Жыл бұрын
@@Saisei87 traditional espresso baskets (non-pressurized) have a mesh made of hundreds of holes in the bottom. The pressure required for extraction and crema comes from the fine grind tamped to a firmness that creates a dense barrier to the hot water. But if your grinder can't grind fine enough, or your coffee is pre-ground then using a pressurized basket will save the day. The pressurized basket has a single hole so the required pressure build-up comes from all the water trying to squeeze through that one tiny hole. This will also work to get more crema from otherwise too stale coffee. While the pressurized baskets do work, it's generally accepted that you can get better tasting coffee with a nicer crema from the traditional non-pressurized baskets. I have tried both ways with my Bambino Plus and I have gotten the best results (so far) by using a third-party non-pressurized basket (IMS Precision H24 from Amazon). The downside to non-pressurized baskets for me is the requirement for a _good_ espresso grinder. I finally upgraded to a Vario+ because I need to grind for both espresso and pourovers. The brand new Baratza Encore ESP might do the trick now for a lot less money.

@@Saisei87 absolutely. But be sure and do your homework or be prepared to return a couple of them. I just finished testing out a really good quality manual grinder from Amazon. Great steel burrs, solid build, but in no way can it grind fine enough for non-pressurized espresso basket. Super for pourover and FP though. I expect there _are_ affordable ones that can do espresso. I would hope so.

Very helpful review, I’ve since bought one and it’s spot on. I’ve found the hot water function very useful for making tea but ymmv. You could also wet your towel with it I suppose for wand cleaning if you’re not near a sink.

I've had this machine for over a year now and it is a great machine. I did have to replace the first machine after a month as it stopped heating the water when making coffee and the second machine i got needed a software update as it wouldn't get out of it's cleaning cycle program. After these two hiccups i had no other issues. It does make a good coffee once you get to know the machine.

I was looking for a review that would address the following issue with the steam wand. I moved from a Delonghi to the Bambino, and with the Delonghi I had the valve to control the steam wand, which was great since I started with an empty glass to purge the condensation that would gather on the inside of the wand since the last time I steamed milk, and once that water was cleared out and only steam was coming out, I’d shut the valve and place my milk just, then quickly start the steaming process. The bambino does not have the valve and the button command isn’t as responsive as the valve, taking quite a bit for the steam to completely stop before I can make that move. Even after I steam my milk, I still have to let the jug sit with the steam wand submerged for like 5 seconds after I hit the button until it fully stops. It may sound silly, because it’s only 5 seconds after all, but considering my Delonghi would stop immediately after command… it is kind of annoying after days of making 2 lattes twice a day 😂 Is that really how it is or am I doing something wrong? Is there a way around this?

Hi, just trying to find the conversion from solid litres to fluid litres, any help would be appreciated, thanks.
@RomainVanAelst4 жыл бұрын
eays, both are based on water, so 1 solid litres is 95% of 1 fluid litre (see en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dry_water).

I do like this review, and I do think she did a pretty good job on this video. But I do feel obligated to point out that this machine only comes with pressurized baskets. This might not bother some people and for $299 USD it makes OK expresso. But people who are more serious about expresso will not be too happy with the performance. You could go with the more expensive Bambino Plus or add a non-pressurized basket and it will make better coffee IMO however. The other huge negative with the Bambino or Bambino Plus is that they are not really serviceable. Once they start having issues outside of warranty, you are better off just throwing them out and buying a new machine. Something like the Gaggia Pro Classic may be a better option for those that are looking to make very good expresso and have a machine that can last a decade or more. At the end of the day, it is your money however, spend it as you think best. Good luck.

If one wants milk based coffee/espresso, such as cappuccinos, this is a marvellous machine. I have one and have used $3000 espresso machines. The higher end machines allow you to dial in/customize better, but their advantages lean more toward the quality of straight shots- without milk of course.

Great video - described the machine in detail, showed it creating a nice shot of espresso with crema. And also generated nice milk - not quite as silky as I usually make, but your latte art is much better than mine :) Will buy one of these based on your review. Thanks!

@@akidarahman Because most people decide whether to buy or not a machine depending on the reviews. Reviews that seem authentic (but are paid for) are dishonest and can lead to waste of money by the audience, money which might be not a lot for you but a lot for certain people.
