Wow wow wow wow … the most exciting pure artist ever … his extraordinary use of the original palette is breathtaking … his drawing natural skill is beyond use of line … is more volumetric and multidimensional … the use of values is dynamic … in my humble opinion Holbein and Botticelli were the inventors of the modern idea of the human image in the collective mind … kudos for this marvelous exposition … is a gift for the Humanity

Holbein's ability to capture the character of his sitters is astounding!

I'd be overjoyed if this could travel to the UK in some form.

As they said, many of the pieces are so fragile, they are likely not leaving the Morgan.

I saw a major exhibition of Holbein's work at the King's Gallery next to Buckingham Palace a few months ago in February 2024 🙂👌

Holbein painted real people. All other portraits appear to be very stylised and unreal. I always look at those squinting, in an effort to get some idea what the sitter actually looked like.

I love portrait paintings by Holbein and van Eyck. But my favourit are the portraits (date c. 1475) of Knight and Lord Ivar Axelsson (Tott) and his second wife Magdalena Karlsdotter, the daughter of King Karl Knutsson of Sweden. You can see them in Denmark, Gärnäs castle.

Would love to have viewed this. To me Holbein creates a real tangible portrait. I am sure the sitter looked like that. Well, perhaps a bit of Photoshop!
