Wait what job did you get? Sorry for asking but i’m a psych major rn and super worried
@SarinaG
@SarinaG 3 жыл бұрын
@@ellenmierzejewski4303 No worries! I work at a residential care facility for “troubled youth.” Our campus is quite big but we house kids ages 8-18 and they’re all divided into separate units according to their age and specific problem. A lot of people have a specific unit that they work with to keep consistency with the kids. but I kind of work in all of them. So we have a secure unit for older boys who have some form of juvenile case pending. We have a unit for girls who have been trafficked. We have a temporary shelter for runaways and such. We have a unit for younger boys who are considered sexually maladaptive in that they have been abused and are now starting to abuse others. We also have general behavioral issue kids, kids with serious addictions, and kids whos homes have been deemed unsafe to name a good chunk of the demographic I work with. But basically my job is to teach these kids how to actually be kids and function in society. Most of them have only ever been in survival mode so it can be difficult to change habits that have kept them alive their entire lives. They do all go to group and individual therapy, which is another route you could always go. I personally am not a licensed therapist. But in my role you learn a lot about trauma and how that shapes how these kids behave and react to situations. You really learn how to diffuse situations and talk kids down because we do often have a handful who can quickly become violent and let me tell you, I’m a whole 5’2 so my goal is always to not get punched by a 6ft tall teenage boy. 😅 Gosh sorry for the whole novel. But really I wouldn’t stress about it too much. If you genuinely like psych you will find a placement that is good for you. I never actually planned on being in a residential facility. But I did my internship in college at a homeless shelter and I loved it. But the thing in this field unfortunately, is that it’s definitely not something you get into for the money. I would say it’s definitely experienced based. So I would be prepared to not make a ton right out the gate. Of course you should expect livable wages and definitely dont undersell yourself, but we’re not balling over here. I think that’s probably what drives people away the most is that the work can be emotionally and physically exhausting and it is definitely underfunded. As cheesy as it is, its a field you stay in because you actually care. And eventually with experience and such you will hopefully make more money to do it. Again, sorry for this textbook sized answer. But I think you’ll be okay in finding a job. There are a lot of openings in psych jobs, just remember that your first job doesn’t always have to be your dream job. If it is thats amazing, but experience is key so just get yourself in the field for a while and feel it out. Nothing has to be set in stone, you can always switch gears if you decide you do or dont like something and you might be surprised what you actually end up liking. Never in a million years did I think I’d want to work with incredibly emotional overdramatic teenage girls but here we are. 😂

@@ydoowj I want to add to this amazing advice! I am not an American and I cannot understand the incredible amount of debt that you all have to pay for education. If you can, please look into studying abroad. They say that it's expensive, but is it really as expensive of 4 years (if you finish in 4 cause life can happen) of American college debt? Think about it and good luck :)
@catherinegiraldo4208
@catherinegiraldo4208 3 жыл бұрын
College almost senior here! College is absolutely not necessary all the time! Take the time to really figure out what you want to do and please go to community college first, so much less debt if any at all if you receive financial aid, and its not as much pressure. Most people end up changing their major anyway and I honestly would not recommend going to college unless you want to pursue a career that really requires it. I am going to be a nurse so it is obviously necessary for me to do so, but if you want to create your own business or write a book college is not exactly needed for those and with how expensive it is, it can be a waste in the end. The internet is your friend, research what you have interest in, if that major is actually applicable to the real world and things like job availability/average income. Hope this helps :)
@Chachixo

The nice thing about college is that there's no time limit on it. If you go and you don't like it, quit. If you decide you want to do it again, go for it. I was on this fast track for college straight out of high school and was sad when had to take a year and a half off. I went back and finished at a different school and it was HELL, but also so rewarding. I am so glad I was a bit older and had the experience of life without the degree before I finally finished, it helped me decide if it was worth it or not. I made good money during my break from college and it took me a while to make even better money five years later. In that time I took a typical industry job for my degree, quit my industry to work in fast food, went back to my industry, worked for myself for a year and now I'm back in the game again knowing what I want/need out of a job and not being afraid to lose one. Focus on your happiness and wellbeing and the rest will fall into place in the order that is meant for you.

Good luck with your schooling! I'm in my last semester of double majoring in psych and sociology and I have been sleep deprived and have had the feel of existential dread for the past 5 years but I definitely enjoyed the content I'm learning lol. My tips for everyone, TIME MANAGEMENT, ALWAYS get someone to proof read, and most importantly, take time for yourself. Let's hope grad school gets better!!

One of my favorite things about you, Morgan, and the main reason I continue to watch all of your videos, is that you live life with such an incredible sense of humor and an equally matched sense of exploration of your emotional and mental health. Psychology and Philosophy feels like a perfect fit for you and I am so excited to see how you learn and grow even more through your education and personal independent experiences.

THIS SOUNDS SO OBVIOUS BUT LIKE I AM SO GLAD I HEARD IT. I tend to put others in front of myself so I can truly relate. Thank you Morgan!!! I’m also 23

Aww I'm sorry you feel pressured. I'm a high school counselor, and I just talked to the 9th graders about scheduling for next year. I geared it more toward trying to figure out what they like and what they're good at. It's definitely okay to not know what you want to do yet, but just keep trying out different classes and seeing what you like and dislike. I have a few kids that want to go into like digital production because they love KZbin, so I'm encouraging them next year to get all of their required classes done so junior year they can check out our digital production program that can offer college credits(if they want) and see if it's something they want to do in the future.

@@Saturn-yg7tk awesome! Good luck! You'll be fine! You should also talk to any adults in the school that have class you like and 1. See if they teach any more classes. 2. Build rapport with them and ask them how they figured out what they wanted to do. Hearing those journeys from adults you like and trust can help you have supportive people helping you figure out what you like and might want to do.

I’m shook literally earlier tonight I was reflecting on how I’ve been healing from this past breakup and how I want to feel fully confident in my own before I start seeing new people again because I always try so hard for people and worry if they will like me, and earlier tonight before watching this video I came to the conclusion “I need to stop asking if they like me and start asking if I like them” and I just reached that part in the video and just wow!! Yes!! We love women who stand in their power and only accept what they deserve!!! 💕💕💕

There's totally no rush to figure out what your passion is and pursue it! You already have a successful career, so take your time with learning and don't feel like you have to rush to get your degree! I was in college for three years before I finally figured out what I wanted to do (be a veterinarian). I graduated with a degree I couldn't really do much with which was discouraging. Took 2 years off before applying to veterinary school and now I'm back in school and learning what I want to learn! There's no rush and no set timeline.

@@morgansvlogs - I also find that intermix very intriguing! I'm a therapist in Canada, and I feel that philosophy often works its way into therapy, especially when discussing/discovering a client's values and their evaluations/perceptions of themselves/their behaviours. Also - I don't think you wasted 3 years of business school! You are an active videographer, producing sponsored, interesting, and relevant content applicable to many people in the 20-30ish age bracket! I think there were definitely some takeaways!

I'm a high school counselor too!!! How're you holding up this school year? I definitely do the same message to my kids (students) and help kids take classes that suit their potential future choices and interests (career track, college track, military track). Ultimately I just want them to be financially secure (especially since a lot of our kids are from low SES) in whatever they choose to do after high school.
