I'm like Colin, I have to really hate a game to not finish it. It's also hard for me to start a game while I'm already playing another. I've wondered why for years, and I think it stems from not getting a lot of games growing up since they were expensive. Thus, if I got a game, I'd play it to death, knowing I wouldn't play another for a while. I also owned a handful of games on SNES and N64, but rented one almost every weekend, so there was always that challenge of beating them before the return date.

This isn't to stir up anything but Jaffee brought it up so this gives more context in case anyone was curious. I didn't know that the fences between them had been mended so that's cool. I would trade every single live service game on the market for just a couple well made 20 hour singleplayer game. You have Ubisoft games that take 50 hours to finish but launch in a broken state and get patched/updated with DLC for 2 years. And i look at those games like "cool, why don't you just release them in 2 years as a fully complete and finished product?" Which brings me to the next issue is early announcements. Game is teased today, gets a proper announcement in a year, we get a story trailer a year after that and a gameplay trailer a year after that with a release date in the next 12 months, that gets pushed back by 6 months and when it comes out it's broken and unfinished for another year or two. This has to stop. Keep the game under wraps until it's 12 months from release, make your whole announcement BS and marketing circus and then release the game when it's actually done. Maybe it needs another patch or two but that's it. No DLC, no nothing - because the game is done. Nobody needs this pseudo-live service bullcrap creeping into singleplayer games. At most i'm buying somewhere between 5 and 10 games a year and i don't play anything for weeks or months. For example this year, 2024, i've played 3 new games. Ready or Not, BG3 and Dragons Dogma 2. Why? Because all the other games that came out are either live service or broken.

Hey jaffe. Those interdimensional beings are straight up jinns. There is a whole scientific analysis of the jinns by classical islamic scholars (who were also scientists) and they basically describe string theory using the language of their time. One of the qualities of jinns is that their world is parallel to ours. But we can't see it. Touch it. Or enter it However, they can see us, and they have the power to travel in and out of our dimension and back to theirs. It's a fascinating world. Quite scary too.

As much as I love these discussions about the state of playstation, are they too small, can they compete, etc. Am I the only one that thinks that it just doesn’t matter anymore? I have a feeling that we have enough evidence (5 generations of sony consoles) to say that as long as they don’t price themselves out of reach like they did at the beginning of the ps3 cycle and millenials like me keep buying the console until we die of old age they’ll be just fine regardless of how many first party games they are able to produce each year.

Colin, the issue isn’t that you talk about Xbox. The issue is that it’s obvious when you talk about Xbox you want PlayStation to be the dominant player in gaming and hold the platform keys as it will. Because they didn’t do things in a more PlayStation like manner leads to you scrutinizing them. You’ve openly said you would stop gaming if PlayStation went away in the past so the whole bit about “you wouldn’t care if they did” isn’t really believable. You say people cast their fanboyness onto your analysis but your analysis is riddled with it. You could be a PlayStation expert AND game elsewhere. Trying to pretend like that wasn’t possible could truly only be sold to a 5 year old. You’re not always playing PlayStation exclusive games and you’ve admitted there were games you had interest in on other platforms but just didn’t play them because they weren’t on PlayStation. That’s literal fanboyism. If it’s about PLAYING GAMES it shouldn’t matter if they’re on PS. However, that’s the end factor obviously for you when you’re deciding to play a game.

Horizon 1's story had good fundamentals; like Dragon Age 1. Now I know why 2 felt so off; the writer changed. As I played it I developed the creeping suspicion that the writing team had become full of people I hated, people with incredibly #currentyear opinions and smug attitudes, who talk about "whiteness" a lot. It felt like the first game's supporting cast was done away with and replaced with fresh lickspittles, and Aloy became a climate-change activist annoyed that everyone else doesn't care about her cause as much as she does.
