What makes this beautiful epic so rare is not that the character fighting for change is a strong female leading role, bu that there is no true villains, just opposing ideologies. Like in life there are no two dimensional characters polarized into roles of good and evil. This anime is based on a book that I will now have to read.

Azimuth Heath Daniel Boyer 100% I was initially drawn to it as a unique concept, but the strong female lead quickly become such a minor part of what I liked about Moribito. It's so much more than that. Irregardless of how badass she is, it's just a great story. Also the stellar action is perfectly paced, unlike the roided up braindead anime that turned me off the genre in the past. Has a lot more impact when it's not in your face constantly. I have to say though, the english voice acting is horrid. Balsa voice actor is... passable, but the rest are cringe inducingly bad. This is an anime you gotta watch with subs, a lot of the drama is lost without the stellar japanese voice acting performances.

Probably the best fight I've seen in anime. Balsa's muscular physique makes the battles seem all the more believable. She combines grace and fluidity with raw power. Simply a pleasure to watch.

Finally a female warrior who isn't sexed up in ludicrous armor and is still a badass

well, there's korra
@Johnpinckney9810 жыл бұрын
malevolenceXXXensues shes in the "Inspired anime" catagory, labled for anime-like animations that haven't been made in Japan.

Jon-John Pinckney you still thinking that all anime is made in japan?
@Johnpinckney989 жыл бұрын
Well the derived name of Japanese Animation is anime, don't have to think about it when its clearly abbreviated for us.

Ryner Lute There are actually bare like that. Read Teppuu. It's the best example of most realistic physiques male or female for what they do in manga I've seen. It's manga about female MMA fighters and the fight scenes are amazing. Also the main character is a very clever twist on the typical shounen protagonist.

It's a shame that so many people don't seem to know this anime. Maybe it's because of my age (29) but more and more I start to look down at japanese production companies and anime fans out there. I get it that shonen and comedy stuff are the most popular series out there, but there are so many more brillant shows out there that deserve praising. Even though Guardian of the Spirit has also fighting scenes, it's more about the characters, the plot and meanings/values. That's what really let it shine. Hope to see more anime like this in the future...

I'm 18 and I thank netflix again for showing me this, and without netflix I'd probably would be watching some distasteful anime

+Safak Aksin They destroyed the Anime by themself, the whole anime was doomed to fail due to the fact that they wanted to make it " safe for childs" . If they want to make a fighting anime where people actually wound each other with blades, they should accept that this can't work without blood or wounds. This is essential to make the anime authentic otherwise the anime will never succeed to its true potencial
@anessone9 жыл бұрын
There are wounds in this show it's just that blood doesn't gush out as much as you'd like. Again watch Jiguro's fight scenes because his fights have REALLY good sound design in them.

Definitely one of my all time fav anime, loved the books too. But seriously there is a major shortage of female characters who are smart, skilled and decent looking, go Balsa!

completely agree, I've always liked the idea of strong female leads. And I'm a guy
@chestylerue398110 жыл бұрын
Tiger Huge I love the idea of them too. I especially like when they're realistic like Balsa. She isn't super powered or anything, She became as strong and skilled as she is through training. She also looks physically strong but at the same time feminine and beautiful. If only real women were like her.
@gunchar068 жыл бұрын
@Xaforn Well Motoko Kusanagi, Alita, Revy(and yeah she is actually smart) are good examples in anime/manga. The Witcher is full of them: Yennefer, Calanthe, Ciri, etc...
