See... I dont think these can work... people complain about hot spot and not as much light and all that with LED and I was thinking about it today and looking at the LEDs in my new Civic Touring, and what they have in the Acuras and a lot of other cars, there is a reason I think why they have the assemblies with a large number of assemblies in them, I am thinking they figured out that you cant get an even beam pattern and good light dispersion from a single point source and realized that the way to do it right is a large number of smaller independently aimed units... just my two cents though.

One stat where HID wins is CRI (color rendition index). I prefer a light temp of 5000k with 90% or higher CRI. The led in this video looks to be high 70% or low 80% CRI. I'm also nervous about the cooling fan, when the fan dies so will the led, the led will run for 10 years no problem, the fan? I don't think so.

My gripe with this is, being a epoxy type of guy vs a nut and bolt, if the led ever fail you would have to hack up your build to replace it, let alone taking the housing out and separating the lens and putting it all back together. To each their own, for the moment though i am going to stick with good old hid's.

The warmer the better. In rainy/foggy weather u need light, not the Bling effect.

I'm pretty impressed with these and when I do finally do my retro's I'm considering this. I've currently running LED's in my reflectors (an 08' Civic) and the light pattern is pretty decent actually. I don't blind oncoming traffic or annoy anybody even driving head-on with my highs on with cops coming towards me. Anything over 10K lumens (4K lumen bulbs) is too much though for the housing which is fine for me. I love how much more clearer things are compared to halogen bulbs traffic signs and road paint light up so much more clearer and safer in pitch black. I haven't tried HID's yet but honestly all the wiring etc. just annoys me as I'm lazy

I will wait for the version 2 or even MLED version 3.0 when aftermarket LED surpasses HID. I have seen oem acura LED headlights and they are impressive..but not enought to let me remove my mini d2s and make the switch

Just ordered some! Can't wait to compare them to the pair of koito bi-led projector's that I've been holding onto for a while. Was gonna go ahead and retrofit them, until I caught wind of the morimoto's a little over a year ago

They should give the option of a smaller shaft. This looks pretty good aside from the slight pencil beam effect from that hot spot. Reminds me of the old E55 beam pattern.

This is why manufacturers have gone to using multiple small led projectors rows. I'm sure Morimoto will provide the multi row led projector headlights eventually when led has surpassed hid, but I'll stick to my hids in my 05 dodge ram 2500.

The hid spreads out more if you use the correct bulb. As u can see the led has a bright point which doesn’t help when you’re driving. You need the light to spread out. Just my two cents

I hope this is marketed well. Most people, for good reason, overall think that HID's surpass LEDS on every metric. While this is true for plug and play, it's not true for OEM units where LEDS have been surpassing HID's in light output (just see the difference between HID vs LED currently on Porsche 911's). When I first saw the Kioto LED projector system on the certain Lexus automobile and 8th generation Maxima I was quite surprised to find out those are dedicated LED systems. Examining the Maxima's Koito's LED system it became apparent why the LED system was superior to HID's and plug and play LED systems: 1.) A dedicated projector for the LEDs. 2.) The huge heat sink and fan to cool the LED chips. 3.) The all in one integrated module (including the driver) specific for the system running at high efficiency.

HID still far surpasses single LED projector units. It takes a multi LED array or a Matrix LED system to beat a single HID projector. No doubt LED is on its way to becoming great, but HID is still king by far.

Eh Meh incorrect, for example, most new BMW's come with single led headlights X1, X3, 1, 2, 4 series as standard here. And they are brighter than hids.

The fact that LEDs can use arrays is an advantage, not a disadvantage. Plus we have to think about where HIDs have the advantage. Compared to the Koito or Corolla LED, only advantages HIDs have is in color and width- subjective stuff that has nothing to do with safety related performance.

You're reasoning is not as sound as you think. Just because LED can be brighter, does not mean it's better. Light distribution in terms of width is extremely poor when referencing a single projector LED unit. A single LED projector has the majority of it's light concentrated directly in the center. Whereas HID is able to distribute light to greater widths providing better driving visibility. I will take a wide beam over a bright pencil beam any night.

If you mention the failure points of HID, you should do the same for the LED. The driver, LED chip, and other components on the LED board inside of the projector can fail too. LED is great, but not perfect.

I just installed from TRS Super7 M Led on the jeep my output is not even close to your video.. not happy my Amazon 280$ set is way brighter. I will contact TRS tomorrow.

LED is catching up it seems, but still not as brights and good as HID. The HID in this video puts out a lot more usable light. The LED has too much of a hot spot IMO...

as mentioned in the video the temperature to touch with the led, would it be too cool for us in the great white north?? ice and snow buildup on headlights is a real problem if there is no heat inside to melt that stuff off.

Led can easily change its intensity with a decent driver. That would be awesome if the mled allowed that function. Can easily switch the led on and off variably to limit the output easily. For instance, when the high beam is activated, the driver increases the intensity to your desired level. Clearly the hid has a much wider hotspot, something you should disclose. Ie area of the hotspot. The mled 2.0 version will be amazing. Bit til then I'll ride my fxr 50 watt setup. Amazing projector. If morimoto made a larger led version (same size as the fxr) that had wider output with the same intensity and larger hotspot with programmable driver then I'd switch right now. Oh and keeping the fxr superior cutoff actuator design (my d2s models kept having stuck actuators and it sucked and the newer versions didn't fix the problem).

Maybe I'm wrong, but that ignitor looks more like a D3S. Thought the D2S ignitors were inline and not mounted directly to the bulb.

i have an h1 projector in h7 housing do you think the upgrade is easy or it will take a lot of work and do you think it is worth it if only you announced this lens sooner i have ordered led kit to drop in the projector to upgrade they will arrive next week

It reduces width. Increases intensity. This is D2S 4.0 Im referring too. Not the LED unit.

You said a lot of space savings..... that space saving is at the back of the bulb/headlight housing. What sucks about this LED setup is that it's going to sit out further ahead in the headlight housing and possibly touch the clear headlight covering. These are too large still.

Considering many OEM LED projectors have fans running - we do not consider the fan an issue. Headlights are not airtight and the LED's dont run as hot for example. Heat should not be an issue.

The idea is, if there is a failure you would be replacing the driver located on the exterior of the headlight. Not replacing the projector. There is no bulb, its just a set of LED's on a board.

These accept all the full size shrouds. You cant use the Mini Turbine. Mini Gatling Gun. Or the Mini Graphite.

Gonna stick with my modified d2s 4.0 with nightbreaker unlimited bulbs and 45w hylux ballast. I have yet to see anything led that isn't drastically more blue. 4200k on dark wet roads is much more usable than 6000k. I am also not relying on a fan that will eventually fail and overheat the system. Zero warmup is great but that's it. I want to see 4300k led to ever even consider it. The blue is not for me.
