@EmbraceMaking8 жыл бұрын
The 'IN' side of the ballast kits will connect to the H11 sockets. The 'out' will connect to the H1 HID bulbs. Hope that helps!
@dragon1234438 жыл бұрын
+Embrace Racing oh ok so I use an H11 ballast with H11 bulbs?
@EmbraceMaking8 жыл бұрын
+dragon123443 nope, the hid kit or the harness will have h11 connectors for inputs. This just uses your old h11 connectors for a signal. The bulbs inside the projectors will be h1 hid for use with the morimoto projectors. Therefore the output in the ballast will be h1. If you're still confused and need links to examples let me know

@EmbraceMaking8 жыл бұрын
+Daniel Pawlata (DPFAST) Do you mean quad projectors? If so, it really depends on your housings and if you have enough room. Usually it's not necessary since two projectors are more than bright enough. People do it as more of a "looks" kind of thing. My only suggestion would be to aim them in pairs separately. Don't try and aim all four at once. Unfortunately I'm not familiar with the dimensions of the Rav 4 so I can't really recommend a shroud, I would just be guessing. I get all of my stuff from the retrofit source... they have a wide selection of products so something from them will definitely fit!

Well I installed a HID conversion kit into my 2004 Lexus GX470. I bought the truck new and at the time HID's were not available as an option. It came with H11 low beam and 9005 high beam halogen projectors. As I said I installed the 6500K HID kit into the original projectors. The look improved but I'm not crazy about the performance. I'm also not getting that razor sharp cutoff line. The harness, ballast, relays and bulb all seem to be quality equipment. So my plan is to reuse what I installed and shop for a top shelf set of true HID projectors. I see that there's an adapter to convert the connectors from AMP to D2S. So if you have time, can you recommend a primo set of projectors. Thanks again ER

Just did this retrofit using the Morimoto H1 7.0 projectors on Zenki RSX Headlights. I originally used an Apollo 3.0 shroud but there were two problems: 1) the projector stuck out too far 2) the shroud diameter was too big and the headlight wouldn't seal correctly due to the headlight shroud hitting the projector shroud. The shroud diameter would not have mattered if I could have the projector sit back further. I then tried using the G37-R shrouds like in this video and the headlights sealed a bit better but there was still a 1mm gap between the lens and the housing at the tall end of the headlight. I verified that all the clips between the lens and the housing were inserted correctly. The headlight lens stuck out a little bit where it meets the fender. Need to open it up again and replace with smaller shrouds.. In this video, it looks like the projector shroud is hitting the headlight also (or at least it is very tight clearance), but it might actually have been OK if Morimoto H1 6.0 projectors were used (they are 136 mm depth vs 139mm depth of 7.0 projectors). I would recommend using bullet shrouds or mini gatling gun for this quick retrofit to avoid any headaches because they have smaller diameters and are garuanteed not to hit the headlight shroud. Otherwise, you'll have to cut off a significant portion of the headlight reflector bowl to seat the projector further back. If you get to that point, you might as well do a FX-R retrofit because it will be a huge PITA to align correctly anyways. Lastly, thank you for the informative video! It was very easy to follow.

Nice video, i do have a question though. What did you do about the high beam? I mean when you have 2 separate bulbs fitted by the factory one is low and the other high beam. I get it that the projector will provide the high beam function via the flap but what about the light itself? I'm mostly thinking about daytime when the low beam is off and you need to use the flash via high beam. How will the low beam and flap get activated? I have the same situation on my car and I intend to use the high beam/DRL slot to house a 2" projector that will act solely as high beam together with the low beam. This way I will have the "flashing" option as well.
@EmbraceMaking3 жыл бұрын
The projector's solenoid uses the high beam function... so I wired the 12V that would normally have gone to the separate high beam bulb to the projector solenoid. That way when you flash to pass, or put your high beams steady on, it just uses the projector solenoid as intended. In my case I also mounted a fun LED day time running light module in there that you can see I "animated" with some additional electronics.
@gabidamir3 жыл бұрын
@@EmbraceMaking thank you for your reply but it doesn't answer the question or it could be that you had H4 on your car. Mine has 2 separate bulbs for high and low beams, thus 2 wires/signals for the related buls. When flash to pass the solenoid will react but what about the bulb? That will stay off as my low beam signal is off. As I see it it would require that the high beam signal is wired to the bulb on low beam as well. Otherwise the light will stay off while the solenoid will activate. When low beam is on then all works just fine, it's during the day I have an issue. Hope all makes sense.
@JayDee-bz2ge7 жыл бұрын
Great video. This is a great example of how to do a instructional / guide video. I bought a set / kit of (bi-xenon) hid that fit into my oem F250 housings. Strangest deal, the hi/low function triggered through the thin b/r wires much like the "cut off" magnet connection. These bulbs actually have a internal (push - pull) magnet that moves the hid bulb in & out about 5mm. First, hid's in a refracting housing is WRONG, I learned that quick, Also, I cant find a application where that push pull bulb is used. It seems like it might work like a MAG LIGHT to focus ,pencil beam to flood beam in the right housing , but it does nothing in a OEM refractor. I'm using the BI ballast / harness on my projectors, (works great on the cut off hi/lo ) ... So what the hell are those push pull bulbs good for?
@EmbraceMaking7 жыл бұрын
Good question Jay. I've heard of them, but have never personally come across them. Obviously some kind of lens/housing has the proper optics to make them work as intended but it's not these "universal" bixenon projectors with the cut off shield. Thanks for watching!
@EvanDunn3 жыл бұрын
This is a really stupid question I'm sure. Do you have to open the housing back again when you have to change the bulbs?

Excellent video for retrofitting projectors, except I would first of all set up reference marks on the wall using the OLD halogen lights. That way all you have to do is match up the new projectors to the "old" reference marks and you are done! The reason I would do it THIS way is because the vehicle I have is a '13 Focus with reflectors. The Focus "shares" one reflector for both, high and low beam presently with the halogens, and there is ONLY ONE adjustment common to both lights. Since I want to use BOTH high beams ( projector high beam AND my stock halogen high beam) for more light, if the low beam and the halogen high beam don't have the same positional alignment, using the single factory adjuster will not position ONE of the beams properly, especially horizontally. This is why a "factory" installed projector along with a reflector "high beam" in the same housing has TWO separate adjustments for each light. I don't know if all this makes sense, but that's the only way I could explain it!

Good point, I see what you're saying!

If your car powers the low and high beam together can you just put an HID kit to the low beam lead to power the projector bulb and the shutter solenoid to the high beam lead?
@EmbraceMaking5 жыл бұрын
Hi Aaron, yes that should work. As long as the low beam does not turn off then you have an easy set up to retrofit :)
@lukemcglynn41922 жыл бұрын
Nice install video. My only note is your right beam is aimed too low. The low step of the right light should be approximately aligned with the high step of the left, so you have two steps up (opposite for brits, and the rest of the wrong-siders).
@erickeenan75624 жыл бұрын
Okay, great video, but I am dying trying to figure out one more detail. Your OEM was a 4-headlight dedicated high and low beam setup. You converted to bi-xenon. Your morimoto harness clearly appears to be H4, which is for a hi/low headlight. What adapters did you buy to go from stock two-prong headlight plugs to the H4 three-prong. Oh...all without cutting OEM wiring?
@EmbraceMaking4 жыл бұрын
Its been a while since this video but if I remember correctly... H4 harness you can just stick regular crimp blade connectors in, and I'm pretty sure on that harness that is only for signal and not for powering the ballasts but it would be fine regardless. So you can just make your own adapter if you used an H4 harness and source the other end for the appropriate sized plug for whatever bulb size the car takes. Lots of retrofit stores and ebay you can find just about any male / female plug with pigtails to make your own harness adapters.

I got lost when you tightened the nut for the projector, so how did you tighten the nut without the projector moving
@EmbraceMaking8 жыл бұрын
+MikeandSamonPC Hi Mike! After putting the headlights on the car with out lenses and making sure your projectors are "level" you just hold the projector with your hand. Make sure it doesn't move (use timing marks like I showed in the video). Tighten the nut on the back with a wrench while holding the projector with your hand to keep it from rotating. The silicone washer on the inside also provides the projector with some grip to keep it from rotating. Let me know if that helps!
@chrismechanic61645 жыл бұрын
Great instructional video! One question though. Eith that install of daytime driving lights in place of old high beams since new projectors contain both, what's to prevent a ticket from police who assume your driving with brights because he sees quad headlights? He won't be blinded by high beams not on but... I hate having to educate cops on mods. Been doing it for 30 years.
@EmbraceMaking5 жыл бұрын

Fantastic video. I'll be saving this for when i do my custom headlights in the summer! I was wondering what happens if you have one of the bulbs go out? do you then have to take apart the headlight again to replace it?
@EmbraceMaking8 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching! In my case, yes you would have to take it apart. However, LED bulbs (good quality ones) should outlast your vehicle and you shouldn't have this issue.
@koushick0078 жыл бұрын
love the video. I am a little bit of a lost though. the projectors I got only takes H1 bulbs and my cars headlight plugs are for H4. Can you please explain how would I go about installing or powering up H1 bulbs with H4 plug?
@EmbraceMaking8 жыл бұрын
+koushick barua No problem!... Your H1 bulbs are HID bulbs so they have those universal connectors on them. They will plug into the wires coming out of the ballast. Now to provide the ballasts with power you have a few options... Some aftermarket HID ballasts can be ordered with the correct style of plug and they will grab power directly from your old bulb connectors. However, if you don't have matching plugs, then you can use a wiring harness like the one I show in the video. The harnesses can be purchased with the right plugs for your current H4 connectors. They will grab power from your battery and use the current head light connectors just for a signal when to send the ballasts power. If you have bi-xenon projectors that do both high and low beams, the harness can also use the high beam signal in your H4 connector to send power to the solenoid in your new projectors and activate the high beam. Hope that helps!
@koushick0078 жыл бұрын
I actually ended up ordering xenon instead on bi xenon only because it limits the amount of wires as I do not have to pull power from the battery. would it be easier to get bi xenon?
@EmbraceMaking8 жыл бұрын
+koushick barua Are you referring to the projectors or the bulbs? Since you have H4 connectors I'm going to assume that on your current car the low and high beam is handled by the same bulb... If you want a high beam function you should get a bixenon projector like the Morimoto Mini H1. The bulb is just your basic H1 bulb, but it is the projector that allows you to do both high beam and low beam

nice video! can you tell me how the final aiming adjustment is made once you sealed the unit?
@EmbraceMaking9 жыл бұрын
+Mo No problem! Before sealing the unit you should get the projectors into rough alignment. This is why I had installed them without the lenses. Once the lenses are sealed, all headlights should still have some level of adjustment. All headlights are different so some will have more than others. On my car (RSX) there are two adjusting screws at the back of the headlight housing; one for vertical and one for horizontal adjustment. Again, these are just for fine adjustment so you should do your best to get them as close as you can before sealing them. Hope that helps!

Thanks. I have all the items now but they are sleeping in the shelf for couple weeks since I want to make sure I do it correctly being a first time DIY. 1. Should I set my headlights motor to the high level before fixing the projector? 2. The driver side headlight is on the lower side already which I didn't know how to make even - This will also result in driver side projector being alot lower than usual isn't it? 3. How to get both the projector beam in the same level (line)? I don't know if the adjustment needs to be done on my NHK G5-R projector itself or if there's any screw in the headlights assembly for that. Finally 4. Is Butyl rubber enough to close the assembly or I would require any other adhesive too? Thanks so much for helping me out!
@EmbraceMaking6 жыл бұрын
Before performing the modification, use your stock headlight adjusters to get your stock lights aligned first. Once you have proper alignment, then you can take everything apart and start modifying. If you do not align them first, then you may not have enough adjustment after the retrofit to bring everything back into proper alignment. The butyl rubber should be enough to seal. Thanks for watching!
@amjathkhan20046 жыл бұрын
Thanks. So, it's in this order 1. Align the headlights on the same height 2. Set the headlight adjuster motor to the highest level 3. Proceed with projector retrofit. That's correct, right?
@EmbraceMaking6 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure what you mean by "set the headlight adjuster motor to the highest level" Is this a motor for self leveling headlights?

Very informative video! Hey... do you have any advice on how to align projectors? I retrofitted mine with some morimoto 4tl-r and realized that the projectors had a crooked beam. They crossed each other slightly like a wide X. Do I need to reopen the headlights again?
@EmbraceMaking7 жыл бұрын
Depends.. if you can access the back of the lights you may be able to twist the projector to level the beam... otherwise you may have to open them again.
@gatonegrote7 жыл бұрын
I can access the back of the headlights, but...how do I twist the projector?
@EmbraceMaking7 жыл бұрын
I would remove the bulbs first, grab the place where the bulb retaining clip goes and see if you can rotate it. If it hasn't been glued or epoxied in place you might be able to rotate it. Most of these universal projectors are held in place with a big locking nut.

I guess we all learn something new everyday...thank you very much for the advice!

Excelent video!! What brand of the proyector are them?
@MrFastFox6666 жыл бұрын
awesome vid. I'm planning on doing a retrofit on my 05 civic. I think the headlights are similar to the ones in your RSX. I have seen many people just cut a huge hole and epoxy the projector to the reflector bowl, and I was planning to do that until I saw this vid. I'll try to do what you did here, as its easier, cleaner, and should make the alignment process 100x easier. I would also like to mention your custom DRLs. Personally, I don't like them. IMO they're a bit tacky. Plus, I think they're pointless, since you don't actually see them (unless you have some system which turns the headlights on when you unlock the car, or something like that). Still, I guess you must like them and that's the important thing.

Great video! So I have an RSX, and I'm looking to do this exact job. When I look on the retrofitsource website, and I'm a little bit confused on what I need to get. I believe I need an H1 system, but I dont know what kind of wiring I would need to get. I don't see the MotoControl for the H1, I only see a regular relay, with an optional high bean splitter. Are you able to advise? Thanks a lot.
@EmbraceMaking5 жыл бұрын
The H1 projectors are the standard choice. I can't remember now if the RSX keeps low beams on while high beams are activated. If this is the case you just need to wire the high beam signal to the projector shutter. If the low beam turns off when the high beam comes on, then you need a bixenon motocontrol relay. This keeps power to your H1 bulb all the time, but when the high beam signal comes on it activates the shutter.

Reaiiy very good job and demonstration but I didn't know how you fit the bi xenon bulbs at the end of projector?

The bulbs are just inserted from behind and these projectors use a little retaining clasp to hold them in place.

Hi Dylan, its going to depend on if you have an American or Canadian car? Do you have day time running lights?
@dylanwingo32338 жыл бұрын
Embrace Racing Mine is American so I believe I don't have DRLs. From what I have found I know I want to run a bixenon in the low beam housing same as you. I have already decided on lens and hid kit, but I'm trying to source a harness that has the relay to change my hi/low beam and will plug into my oem input.
@EmbraceMaking8 жыл бұрын
Since you don't have a DRL, the next thing I would check for (because I can't remember, I sold my RSX a while back) is if your low beams turn off when you turn your high beams on? They were two separate bulbs right?
@dylanwingo32338 жыл бұрын
Embrace Racing Yes they are two separate bulbs I went ahead and reached out to a rep at retro solutions and they answered all of my questions so now all I have to do is follow your DIY. thanks for you help tho liked and subscribed!! 👍
@EmbraceMaking8 жыл бұрын
No problem, thank you! Out of curiosity which one did they recommend? Here's my take.. If your low beam turns off when highs come on I would go with the bixenon moto control (H4) and then jumper your high beam signal to the harness. If your low beam remains on when high beams come on you can just use one of their regular relays and jumper the high beam signal directly to the projector solenoid.

Hum I was told by the people at TRS that the MotoControl Bi-Xenon you show in the Video don't work with the RSX. I am also working on my RSX headlights and I wanted to use the same harness, but I was told did not work with the H1. Did I miss something during your explanation? lol
@EmbraceMaking6 жыл бұрын
It's been a little while since I did this and I sold the car a few years back.. but if I recall, the harness will not be plug and play with the RSX lights. The high beams are the inner lights if I recall correctly. Therefore, to make the harness work, you have to cut the connector off and splice it... the positive signal from the high beams will get spliced in and trigger the bi-xenon shutters. Hope that helps!
@18JEM16 жыл бұрын
Hey man, danm! I ended up getting a diferent harness, thanks for the help. Great video by the way.

You have your LEDs mounted on polymer? I would be scared to mount mine on anything other than metal since they don't have heat sinks, but they seem to work well.
@EmbraceMaking8 жыл бұрын
They're not very powerful LEDs and they come in an aluminum housing. The plastic was ABS and so the melting temperature is somewhere around 190 Celsius I believe. It doesn't get nearly that hot and they worked for many months before I sold the car :)
@dejectedsasquatch37928 жыл бұрын
Oh, I plan on doing something similar with my lights, but I wanted to wire them directly to my parking lights. Thanks for the inspiration!
@EmbraceMaking8 жыл бұрын
No problem. Wiring them to your parking lights will be a breeze :) Best of luck!
@dejectedsasquatch37928 жыл бұрын
One more thing, do I really need a relay if I'm just tapping into the parking lights? I saw your design has a lot of relays, but I'm guessing that's more for the sequencing.
@EmbraceMaking8 жыл бұрын
You shouldn't need a relay for LEDs. I used transistors on my custom PCB board because I needed a microcontroller to turn them on and off. In your case, just make sure you either have a LED driver/voltage regulator, or that they are internally regulated since your vehicle puts out more than 12V. The voltage spikes will eventually kill them.
@SmiteVale9 жыл бұрын
Great video! I was wondering about how long it would take for me to do this whole process?
@EmbraceMaking9 жыл бұрын
+SmiteVale Really depends on your skillset, how easy it is to get the headlights off your car, and if you have everything you need on hand. I would say that you should make it a weekend project. If it is your daily driver, give it an entire weekend so you don't need to drive your car without any headlights.

What I don't understand is (looking at the Mini HI Bi-Xenon projector retro-solutions is selling now), it and all the other Mini H1 projectors claim to fit H1 bulbs only, but then claim to be BiXenon. But as far as I can see, there are no BiXenon H1 bulbs. What am I missing here?
@EmbraceMaking6 жыл бұрын
Hi Marshaul, from my understanding, bi-xenon is referring to the projector and not the bulb. The projector has a shield that can flip down to create the high beam pattern.

that rubber sealant is not a glue but a pliable rubber sealant to seal your head lights so moisture doesn't get in. front what i seen so far is that 23 inches from the center or the top of the projector? When i did my retrofit on my ford focus with aftermarket projector housings i used the center of the project as my height for my projector cut off and used that after i aimed my headlights. they were level and never blinded any one

Once the projector is inside, it is almost impossible to change your cut off sharpness without taking everything apart again. If you mean the "aim" when you say focus, then yes, use the regular method of adjusting your headlights. The projectors are mounted to the old reflector housing so they will move too.

Hi bro I just installed bi xenon projector lens in my datsun go reflector headlight, but after installation both lights brightness was not up to the mark and when I just pressed a little than it'll become brighter as I want, but how can I hold the hid bulb like this, it happens to both headlight, and when I look from the front it seems that projector lens beam appears on the car headlight outer glass, it looks like all the projector light beam is for the headlight glass, so please help me whether it was installation fault or something else
@EmbraceMaking4 жыл бұрын
Sounds like maybe you installed them on an angle? You have to make sure that they are mounted flat... you might have to take it apart and try again. You can make small adjustments using the aiming screws on your reflector headlights, but it won't fix big misalignments.

Hi Rudy, the projectors were morimoto mini H1 bixenon projectors. The bulbs were morimoto 35W bulbs, I believe 6500K and the ballasts were just generic 35W HID ballasts from ebay. The ebay bulb and ballast kits are not bad considering they are only $30

Hi Owen, it shouldn't make it more difficult. If you use the morimoto projectors, they have shrouds that are designed to mount on them. The retro fit source sells halo rings that fit inside the shrouds which make the mounting very easy and stealth. From there you just need to run the positive negative wires to power the halos!
