So good out here. I nearly didn't go because it didn't interest me. Very glad I went. I think I'm turning into a Gravel Rider haha. As for opening your mind to where to ride. Having just ridden the Watagans to Laguna stretch I can attest to how awesome that gravel ride is, spectacular !
@Drscarper8 ай бұрын
If you ride another 10kms down the road past the cafe you can turn left onto Murray’s Run which takes you back into the Watagans, take another Left at the top onto Walkers Ridge Road and after 18kms you will meet up with the start of your Day One descent. Alternatively you could head down Cedar Brush Road from the top of Murray’s Run into Yarramalong and ride out to Wyong Station. Also Heaton Lookout is near the top of your Day One ascent and well worth checking out with massive views out to the coast.

Been thinking about doing a video like that for a while. All the trips I've been on lately have been a bit hectic and I haven't had time to dive into it. I'm planning on doing some solo trips because I want to slow down and play with my camera, talk more etc. I'll definitely use this as a topic to talk about on a future solo mission. Sitting at the computer now planning somewhere to go. Cheers.

Unfortunately my film making skills are nothing like yours to share it! Cracking trip though, definitely recommend. Keep the videos coming!
@advanturest9 ай бұрын
Cheers Mark, I just had to google the campgrounds you mentioned. Uploading these videos I keep hearing of new places which is cool. Last November I did a ride from Wisemans Ferry up the Old North Road and then looped back past St Albans. I just realised we went straight past Mogo campground. I didn't even realise it was there. I'm guess the turnoff was on our decent. Very good to know as I'm keen to do another out that way. I agree, there is some beautiful riding out that way.

Thanks for the video. There are a few good rides off Yengo creek road. Boree road is a nice loop. Yengo creek road is exactly 10 km of road from the trading post hit the dirt at the top of the hill for 10 km of nice dirt road with a few creek crossings north to the tavern. From Wollombi towards Cessnock is Cedar creek road which is a gravel climb up to Yellow rock look out for a great view. This takes you towards a transmission tower then drops into the vineyards behind Cessnock.

@@copaking2 That's awesome mate. It's definitely a nice area at the pub but could also be dangerous with unlimited beer supply haha. Some stunning riding out that way. And I assume it wasn't like a thousand degrees like it was for us. It was so humid when we rode it. I think you picked a better time of year. Cheers for watching 👍

Could you do this on a 70s steelie with 32 mm tyres ? Is there a dedicated map for the route.
@advanturest6 ай бұрын
Hi Rob, I did it on a 1992 steelie, I was running bigger tyres though. 47 on the rear and a little bigger on the front. Josh had 47mm front and rear and neither of us had any issues. Some corrugations at the top of the hill in the Watagans weren't pleasant but I'm sure you could get through. The other thing to consider is the descent down into the farm lands. It was quite smooth for us, seemed like it was recently graded. I'm told it use to be rough. The rest of the ride I don't see any issues. The farm gravel was super smooth. There was a fair amount of paved sections as well. The route is in the description. Hope that helps
@robwhite4616 ай бұрын
@@advanturest Great thanks. I did two Noosa Strada Bianchi rides in 2014 and 15 on steelies with 23 and 25 mm tyres, some of the gravel descents really tested my nerve, a lot went belly up. There were accents over 15%, you could do it if you stayed in the seat, a lot of us had 42 / 28 gearing, I used 39 / 28 the following year. There were quite a lot of pinch flats on the early rides, most of us went 32mm or larger if the frame would allow, no such thing as gravel bikes back then, just mountain bikes. I’m 10 years older now and riding tourers with triple chain wheels but blacktop gets boring, and traffic is scary. There’s a couple of clips you may like to look at one is the rough stuff fellowship, the other is A mechanised tramp. It’s the history of what you guys are doing. All the bests, and safe trails. Rob…

Thanks, great ride. Greetings from the 'Slow Cyclists'. We're always looking for new 1-2 day rides. We recently rode from Bell train station to Newnes, overnighted in a cabin, then rode back to Lithgow station the next day. A while ago we did a 2 day trip from Richmond station to Gosford along the Hawkesbury, through Glendale valley, finishing at Gosford station. Video here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/hIbKZmRqi9J5ra8

Greetings! How was the Newnes trip? I was very close to doing that ride this weekend. I was going to park at the Zig Zag railway, ride down through the glow worm tunnel, hike a bike for a bit. Camp at Newnes, and then come back up the old coach road. I have some friends that are keen but aren't available this weekend, I'd feel bad doing it without them so I've canned it. Very keen to make it happen soon though. Just watched your video. Some places look familiar. looked like a good ride.
@mickeypower5 ай бұрын
@@advanturest The ride from Bell train station is not that interesting. It goes through recently culled state forest. Where it's interesting is from entrance to Nat Pk, the top of the Old Coach Road which winds steeply down past turn-off to Glow Worm tunnel to Wogan Valley creek. The appeal of Wogan Valley is that basically the road in and out has collapsed, a new one is being built and so there's hardly any traffic or visitors. There's an awesome campground in Newnes which is empty too. It's worth getting a cabin there for the minimum two nights then riding/bushwalking around. Glow worm tunnel is definitely worth the visit.
