Hi Tim, love your content mate and always looking forward to the next video. I was hoping to join you for the big birthday ride but didn't make it back to Australia until two days ago and I presume it's already happened. But... my brother and I are preparing to ride your loop between Christmas and New Year's, probably in a 4-day trip considering some of the ascents and the heat. So we're wondering how it turned out and if there is anything that you would change or recommend to do differently? Any particular hut or campsite that stood out along the way? Would appreciate any feedback that you might have... Cheers from Canberra! Mik

@@tubegenic Hi Mik, just got home last night, we rode from Thursday to Sunday and it was stinking hot but we had a great time. I will be making a video but probably not before you ride it. Cascade hut and Tin Mine huts are a great spot to camp. I wouldn’t camp at Ingeegoodbee as it’s not level. Also toilets at the other places. In between Tin Mine huts and ingeegoodbee hut there was actual some beautiful grassy areas with nice creeks that could also be an amazing option. When I go through my photos in a day or so I’ll add a link here so you can check it out. Halfway Flat on the snowy river was crap so we stayed at Jacobs River campground. It was nice. There are other options along the snowy river as more of a wild camp situation. You just have to ride and choose. It also depends which way you ride. Most people went down nine mile trail which is from Ingeegoodbee. Apparently it’s crazy steep but cuts out about 35km. Myself and 1 other took the longer route into Vic to see another hut. We then rode 30km along the snowy river back to camp. You could miss some of the nicer spots if you went the short route. This is the long way that I did. ridewithgps.com/routes/47487517

I recently did the Bedford Creek / Anderson Fire Trail a couple of months ago. I was looking for a non-highway way of getting to Lincoln’s Rock… I was not prepared at all. I took my e-bike but it didn’t help, it probably hindered, especially as it’s about 60% of my weight and it went flat. I had to walk most of the way. My phone also went flat and I wondered if I’d make it out alive! I went the opposite direction to you, Woodford to Wentworth Falls and I will probably never do it again!!! I did discover Murphys Glen Campground though and that was cool. Bedford Creek can kiss my bottom though!! Ugh!! Too steep!!!

Tassie is a beautiful place. While the touristy areas are beautiful, there is definitely a lot of farm land in between and a bit of driving to be done. With that in mind, everywhere seems so relaxed. The country roads are quiet and a nice drive. I recommend visiting the area one day. I was worried the video would drag on too long, to many nice scenes to share though 😂 Thanks for watching.

We fell in love with Tassie in a similar way: in June ‘86 our first holiday together was a road trip over on the ferry. Then 5 years later we flew in for a 3 week honeymoon. I had a few more trips either on my own to visit my sister, (now living there) or with friends or with my children. But for our 25th wedding anniversary we did the Cradle Mountain overland 6 day hike, as it had been something I had wanted to do since that very first trip. Then the next year I did the same high loop with my son that you just did on the face track. It’s been 7 years since my last visit, and we are heading down in January for 2 weeks and I can’t wait! 😊
@advanturestАй бұрын
This is awesome, I love hearing stories like this. During our hike around the face track Sarah decided she wants to do the overland track for her 40th birthday. Thats roughly 20 months away and I'm already excited 😆. This trip also got her really keen for more Tassie hikes and last month she went back and did the 3 capes hike with her friend Steph. (its taken me a while to finish this video). I hope your trip in January is awesome and I hope the weather turns it on like it did for us. Cheers.

Cheers Pete, Tassie is such a nice place. What's interesting is after this visit, which was my 3rd time there, I've heard its often windy in Tasmania. I'm yet to witness it though. It seems every time i go there the weather is beautiful. I didn't think i'd make this video but the weather just kept drawing me to my camera. Even in Derby, I took my chest mount to get the odd shot just to have, I ended up with hours of footage. It was crazy haha. Next year Sarah and I will be on the road so i should have a lot more time to keep going on adventures and hopefully making videos. Cheers for the support. Much appreciated. Tim 👍

@advanturestАй бұрын
Hi Mate, Thanks for stopping by 😄 Sorry i'm a bit slow at replying on here. I love my Big Agnes Tent and I would recommend. There is one thing i'd change or look at if i was buying again. I'm not sure if what I'd like even exists. I'll try to explain. Next year i'm taking a year off work to travel Aus and am planning to make a video about the tent, thats a long way off though so hopefully this makes sense. When i purchased the tent, a big selling point was the design of the door. I loved how you could unzip either side, and using 2 poles or sticks you can set up an awning. I still think thats cool, but realistically i rarely do it. I'd prefer the zip to come up from the corner and over the top, that way when you open the door it just hangs to the side and make a nice big easy exit and entrance point. At the moment when you open the door in the morning, If its been raining or there is condensation, you have to try and throw the fly on top or try hold it away from you. If everything is dry its ok but most nights there is condensation. I'm not sure if there are any tents with this type of design that unzip that way I think would be useful. The MSR, The Sea to Summit, The Mont, etc, all these tents just unzip up the middle meaning you would have the same issue. Anyway i'm just nit picking. Its a great tent. The material is unbeleivable thin which was concerning but it seems super tough, Even the floor, I've been sleeping in pretty much a river and no water seeps in. One of the reasons i bought it is because of this video below. Levi gets caught in a blizzard and the tent cops a beating. It survived and I thought thats the tent for me. I also like the colour of it. I hope that helps and doesnt cause more confusion for you. Cheers. kzbin.info/www/bejne/rGLNZ5mKrbOqqcUsi=J2dCe7gXuCiPxP2P

The bars I have been using are the Zniino carbon corner bars. I've been really happy with them but if you watch my latest video i actually broke them. Feel free to fast forward to 28min. I didn't capture the fall but i talk about what happened. Then right at the end at about 39min I show the damage. Anyway, the bars flare out a long way, I had my bike fully loaded with heavy gear, a strong gust of wind blew it over and it landed on the flared out part of the bar, The pressure was just too much for the join. Maybe Surly know this and thats why they only make them in steel. The carbon version are heaps lighter though, probably wouldnt have broken with just the weight of the bike, but i had a heavy tripod on the forks. all my camping gear, water, beer etc. My bike was super heavy when it hit the ground. I know you didn't ask about this but thought you should know since you asked about the bars. Cheers

Oh i'd love a fat bike to do some beach rides and beach camps. Not sure the wife would be happy with another bike squashed on my balcony. All the bikes i've been riding on my bikepacking trips have been old 90's bikes. they don't have the best tyre clearance. Hopefully sometime soon I can get a modern bikepacking bike that can fit some chunkier tyres. It may not be fat bike capable but it would help. Love the vid, I always do! The chinese handlebars though,I think people shouldn't buy all that cheap ali express or whatever cheap Chinese suppliers stuff.. Ultra bad working conditions for the workers (read human beings like you and me), bad materials, it's rubbish, it breaks then we throw it out (maybe even before use because of disappointment or fear of breakage) so it's extremely polluting.. It's not the kind of system we want to contribute to right?
@advanturest2 ай бұрын
@@maartennico7910 i absolutely agree. I’m a bandit for recycling old bikes and riding them places they shouldn’t be ridden. I love to keep old stuff going as long as possible. These bars there is actually an interesting story. We’ll kind of. I was really keen to try drop bars on a bike, a friend was keen to try these corner bars so he ended up getting me a pair too. I was very skeptical at first and really didn’t trust them. Over time, and many km’s, I slowly learnt that they did the job and they felt tough enough. Until they broke. Saying this, the angle of the flare and the pressure my heavy bike put on the corner joint, I’m not surprised they broke. Maybe this is why Surly don’t make a carbon model. Or maybe it’s the whole carbon recycling thing. I’m always happy to pay a premium for better gear and support quality working conditions, unfortunately it’s hard to tell what you get and what you pay for sometimes. I’m taking about paying a premium for brands we trust only to find they’re also getting made it dodgy factories. I’ve only bought one thing from Ali express and it was a small Ulanzi tripod that I use on my trips. I rang countless local shops looking for a tiny tripod that could carry my heavy camera. The Ulanzi was the only option I could find and the only place I could buy was Ali Express. As for the working conditions, how do we tell? This is definitely a good topic that we should all think about when buying goods. Anyway, I don’t plan on buying these bars again. I did just get another old bike out of the graveyard to play with though 😂 1988 model I believe.

Hi Tim love your videos and thanks for some great ideas for bike packing trips. Just thought I'd let you know about the ride I did along the Cascades trail in Oct 2023 in case it helps for your planned ride at the end of the year. I rode from the start of the trail at Dead Horse Gap out to the PInch River campground on the Barry Way. It was a beautiful ride but the last 6-7 km was pretty hellish, a 900m descent. This last section was far to steep to ride (for me anyway) and the surface was gravel the size of marbles, very slippery! After a few falls and run away bikes, it was easier to push our bikes through the bush on the side of the road. I think that last 7kms took about 3 hours. If I was doing it again I'd keep going, (not sure if this is possble though) past Chritsie O'Rourkes Hut and then out onto the Barry Way. Longer and still steep but might be a bit more pleasant. Also we parked a car at the PInch River camp ground, riding up the Barry Way would be a nightmare, up, up, up for 54kms!

@@madelinehourihan795 Hi Madeline. Thanks for that info. I’m going to start with the Christie O’Rouke’s Hut. I haven’t heard of this one and the first thing I do when I get home is some research on it and the potential alternative route. This day was always going to be the shortest so I would think we would have time to explore further. As for the original idea. I’ve heard it’s very steep. Part of me wants to experience it for myself. If I find an alternative route I may have both options available and get everyone to vote on the day. One of the gents that is keen to come is Gerard who made the video that I attached in the description. He has done it before and didn’t seem phased about doing it again. I might also let people know they can drop a car at the bottom if they wish. I’ve got a bit of a goal to complete the loop through. When I look at maps the steepest part is the first 25km and then I’m hoping it flattens out heading into Jindy. Maps always lie though 😂
