History
Officially these dogs are called Morkshire Terriers, but everyone agrees that their nickname Morkie fits them much better. As their name implies, these cute dogs are a cross breed between the Yorkshire terrier and Maltese. Considering the cuteness of their breed parents, it’s no wonder why Morkies make one of the most adorable canines out there.
Physical Appearance
When it comes to physical appearance, getting a crossbreed is always unpredictable. Some Morkies might look more like a Maltese, while others may look more like their Yorkie parent.
Morkies have low-shedding, soft fur that comes in brown, black and white colors. They are small dogs that don’t grow higher than 8 inches and they rarely weigh more than 15 pounds.
Personality
Morkies are very happy dogs whose temperament is quite calm and easygoing. These dogs are very playful and will easily find a reason to run around. When playing with a Morkie, keep a toy near because these small dogs will always be ready to run and fetch!
Morkshire Terriers are very sociable creatures that get along well with kids of all ages as well as with other pets and small animals. Be careful when playing or walking around with a Morkie, because one wrong step could end up in a bad injury due to their tiny size.
They have quite a sensitive personality too, so it's common that a Morkie feels anxious because of a storm or loneliness. Therefore, Morkies will need a lot of your time, affection and attention in order to be happy and healthy.
Grooming
Thanks to their Maltese genes, Morkshire Terriers have a low-shedding coat that grows up to a couple of inches of length. However, their coat requires regular brushing and washing in order to prevent knotting or matting.
Although they aren’t considered as a pure hypoallergenic breed since they shed minimally, people with allergies will probably have mild or even no reaction to Morkies.
Morkies require grooming sessions every few months in order to look their best! If you decided to get you a little Morkshire terrier, you will have to find a good pet groomer that will know how to trim your pet’s fur.
Training
There’s a common belief that Maltese are difficult to potty train. Therefore, a lot of people assume that it might be equally hard to train a Morkie where to pee or where not to pee. However, with a good and consistent approach, potty training your Morkie shouldn’t be an issue.
If you adopt a patient and positive attitude towards training, your little Morkie will pick up a lot of commands and tricks. Of course, if you add some treats to the training process, everything will be much easier.
Exercise
Don’t let Morkie’s size fool you. These dogs are quite active and love getting enough exercise and playtime every day. You should take your Morkie to the park for playing at least once or ideally, twice per day.
Be aware of how other dogs in the park play with your dog because if a large dog jumps on a Morkie, a small scratch or a bite could lead to a serious injury in this cute, little pup.
Getting enough exercise is crucial if you want to avoid destructive behaviors your Morkie might develop due to too much of pent-up energy.

He had honestly the most beautiful face I have ever seen on a dog..we really loved him but he did not do well with other animals when he grew up, he tried to hurt our tiny 4lb Yorkie girl, was pretty scary. I got one named "Good Boy Cupcake", but he was lonely, so we got another "The Book Of Matthew". We call them Cupcake and Matthew, respectively. The old man (Cupcake) is like a freagin princess (even though he's a boy). When I take him out for a walk, when he doesn't want to walk anymore, he will sit and simply refuse to move. The other one is a puppy (Matthew), and he can annoy the bejesus out of anyone - so much energy. They each weight 4 pounds. I sleep with them (king size bed).

Yeah, mine had seperation anxiety and it caused issues with the neighbor downstairs because he worked night time and slept day time. So I called a dog trainer and what she suggested me was to walk her outside before going to work, and another trick was to leave a bowl with peanut butter. The peanut butter helped the most, she doesn't even need it anymore. (Just gotta check because theirs an ingrediant some peanut butter brands have that are very bad for dogs) It was just tough getting her used to being alone during covid because of all the lockdowns.

We were gifted a Morkie from a friend who had a litter of 3. Our boy Bentley is only 12 weeks old and since we work from home it is great bc we can take him out as often as needed to go potty. He has learned quickly he only potty’s outside. While we are working we have him in a larger gated pen area where he can run and play around inside. We also got super lucky and since he was 8 weeks old he sleeps in his crate with no whining at all. He will sleep a good solid 7 hours. Just trying to now to get him to get along with our cat that is the biggest problem we are having. Any suggestions???

@@hildafeser4872 Morkies are usually first generation of pure Maltese and Yorkie parents. So their appearance can be anywhere between the two. Mike looks more like a Yorkie, but with the Maltese tassel looking tail. We didn't have her tail docked.

I haveca morkie, got him when he was 6 months old for my grandson. He was trained on the pads on the house, well my don inlaw wanted him to go outside. The morkie didn't catch on to that, he just would always poop on the house, so he got spanked alot and put in the crate. Well, now he's with me and he's now 2 years old and he still doesn't let you know when he has to go out. I work alot so he's crated during the day , he pooos in his crate or if he is loose at night to sleep with me he goes somewhere in the house at night and poop i wake up to this. My friends and family say it's too much on me and I need to let him go. Ive gotten attached to him even though he barks all hours of the night if he is crated. IT'S JUST ALOT OF WORK🤪🤪😞😞

Spray bottle. I rarely have to use it after the first 2 squirts, he's so smart. If he does something bad I'll tell him no, just a couple times. If he ignores me, I show him the bottle and that's all it takes.

It's a puppy thing, all puppies play bite. They do eventually grow out of it, but you can try bopping them on the nose and saying "No Bite!" in a stern voice. Eventually the dog will figure it out. Just have to be consistant.

Morkies play bite. Mine is always putting his mouth in his mouth just a little pressure so it looks like they bite If you notice the fog will not bite hard. Most Yorkies play bite. Of the dog really hurts you and bites that's a different story. Just Yelp like a dog and morkies will know he hurt you and will more aware and back off Again just understand that morkies play with their mouth.

Our girl Morkie was a rescue from a shelter, we are absolutely bonkers about her, she'd rather die than potty indoors. Loves to run and jump, damaged a rear leg ligament, had surgery, is limping again, may be arthritis, we're going to start pro holistic treatments. She tells us when our other dog , Riley, small quiet, part Border Collie has to go potty, he's "backward", slowly becoming normal, rescued from a 60-dog hoarder house.

Yes, morkies are very vocal dogs. I'm not sure if yorkies are vocal, but I know the maltese is (my aunt has one) so I know part of it is from the maltese side. My moms morkie will even sing along to certain songs (like "soft kitty" from Big Bang Theory)
